EDDIE LEJEUNE, LIONEL LELEUX, HUBERT MAITRE, 1990 WELLINGTON HOTEL NYC

In 1990 Nick Spitzer, who now produces the American Routes radio program, put together a series of folk concerts at the Weill Hall at Carnegie Hall in conjunction with the Smithsonian Institution. My sister was involved and I got to go to many of the shows. She told me one of the must see performers was Eddie LeJeune but I got into the city late and missed his performance. I went up to the Wellington Hotel where the performers were staying and met my sister in a room where a jam was going on. Eddie was just about to leave for the night but my sister told him I had just got in and missed the show. He was playing with Hubert Maitre and Lionel LeLeux. They stayed and played for me with Lacassine Special as the first song and it was one of the greatest musical moments in my life where I was totally blown away.

Truly great players gone from us, but the music lives on soothing the loss.

The first tune is Lacassine Special. Iry LeJeune lived there when he was making a name in Cajun music.

Eddie LeJeune is a favourite. Name of the second tune - the waltz? Starts at 3:10. I Left My Family in Misery.
