Edd never wants money. He does it on his own bucks because it it always dangerous and it's his decision to do it. I'm sure he does doesn't want to waste the deceased's family money in case he dies and is not able to do it.

@@petergianakopoulos4926 well for me personally I’m broke. People shouldn’t have to put up their own money, often more than the combined sum of all their assets esp during this time period with the pandemic, just to suggest something that would be good. That’s crazy. There’s nothing wrong with suggesting something that would be good if you can’t personally afford to fund it. I would be more than happy for my tax dollars to fund this.

I'm not even a diver, I have just been captivated by these diving videos and how strong the community of diving is around the world. Edd is one of those names in diving that is LEGENDARY. I have the utmost respect for Edd and the IUCRR. Edd just seems like a normal guy that enjoys diving, but he is capable and willing to rescue/recover victims. Edd, if you ever see this, you are a HERO.

WOW!!! He doesn't get paid, he pays for everything to get to a rescue - he definitely has GOD watching over him - that's very humbling that such a person would do that from the bottom of his heart - that's just amazing, he must have a very, very understanding wife, because those rescues must cost him an awful lot of money for flights, equipment, and time input. GOD BLESS you ED - your very humble and amazing and to listen to, how you're able to recall some of the most difficult rescues and how you retrieve them whether they are dead or alive is rewarding in itself. Also, Ed you and your family can't live on nothing if there is a "GO FUND ME" page it's ok to accept these donations as long as you don't think of them as a wage you're be ok because it can get out of hand and a expectation things can go south. Just saying. GOD Bless you and keep you safe wherever you go. Amen and Amen!!!

"People complaning that we were doing product placements" ... This just shows the enormous delta in character between people who hide behind the internet, anonymously, and criticize others. Not only that but criticize people who are doing things they would NEVER do or be able to do in about a billion light years. Edd is a champ. People like him are champs. Can you IMAGINE doing what they do for people, for free? I'm not that sweet. I would take all the financial and non-financial support I could muster to mitigate my own difficulties in getting to a remote location halfway across the world to help complete strangers... or uh... their bodies. What the heck. Would I want compensation? Yup. Darn right. Would I gouge people? Nope. Not a chance. Would I accept gratuities, and funnel money to the families affected? Yes indeed. Would I accept product revenue from affiliate marketing? Damn right. Anyone sizing up this fellow, and people like him... are focused on their own sense of self-loathing, not Edd's personal sense of character, and committment to his own core values. But you know what? That's the internet for you. And people wonder why MORE people don't 'do the right thing'? Because people want to crush them into oblivion for it. That's a big reason. :|

Mad respect for anyone who utilizes their exceptional skills and abilities to actually help people instead of just for their own benefit. Then to take it a a step further and risk your own life for others goes beyond the norm. Most important and the true mark of am expert is the painstaking process of doing every little detail perfectly so as to not become another victim and another problem for another expert to risk their lives for. Controlling ones own emotions to ensure professionalism over panic is the most difficult part of these rescues. How do you do that? Training and proactice and training and practice and trainind and practice so that muscle memory develops and orders of operations and use of checkists are drilled into your routine combined with constant reevaluations of past events and knowing as much about everything involved as possible.

Edd recounts a bit more of his background in the full podcast episode. You can catch it in Episode #29 Speaking Sidemount on your favourite podcast channel or here - www.sidemountpros.com/speakingsidemountpodcast/2019/4/9/episode-29-cave-rescues-amp-recoveries-with-edd-sorenson

I see no reason why these guys should not get paid for these rescues. They are bringing skills no one else has, risking their lives, not for themselves, but for other people. Sounds like an extremely dangerous JOB to me. They should be paid by the government groups that call them out for support in addition to the government groups covering their expenses.

The least the authorities could do is pay for Edd’s expenses. This is absolutely unfair. Before watching this video I thought he was getting paid handsomely for such a difficult, potentially deadly task. How shameless they can be.

These guys aren’t doing this for glory. When they go, they don’t even know if they are coming back. They do it out of a sense of honour, community and because no one else can.

What do you do in a cave if you silt it out. I’d assume you follow the silt and keep checking your dive computer so u know I’f your ascending or descending and what direction your headed I. Correlation with true north. I’ve been told yes it could work but I’ve also been told that it wouldn’t help I think it would especially if you can remain calm while realizing that you will die if you don’t stay calm and use your air the right way and if u make a move it needs to have a purpose.

I believe your supposed to swim with the line below you, so if you silt it out you can descend onto the line and grab onto it easier.
