In an interview Ed said the song was about his hedonistic (hard drinking and partying) days before he met his wife. He said that he felt like his life was starting to spiral out of control, he was drinking too much, partying too much, he was losing his love for music and he was taking his career for granted. The "you" in the song is his wife and finding her changed everything for him. In the end of the MV he's saying goodbye to this part of his life and embracing his new life as a husband and father.

in my opinion, those people that with him represent his bad habits, like alcoholic, consuming too much sugar, bad relationships, bad attitude and etc. and it gets back to normal on daytime. “Every pure intention ends when the good time starts” is really true especially when you’re having a very good time, you tend to forgot that you’ve got work on the morning and didn’t care at all anymore. A very good reference as a vampire. I didn’t get the rose but you guys saw it wow, very good reaction, love y’all!!

I think you have nailed it. 👌🏽When he catches his usual version from the car, he was too far gone that he doesn't recognise himself anymore. And when the sun comes out, it symbolises a new day and he has to face reality once more. Also, the people getting flung all over the place probably symbolises collateral damage, due to his bad habits and subsequent decisions. 😅

You nailed it! Ed said in an interview a few days ago that when he saw his daughters face for the first time he decided right there to take much better care of himself-not drinking/partying, eating better,working out-so he could be the best father & husband he could be. The other vampires represent different bad habits & the end is him getting rid of them to be his best self. Fun fact:this song was added after he was essentially done with the album as something thought provoking but dancy as we start coming out of lockdown over the summer!

I think the start of the video where he is all glittered up and wearing the pink suit signify the “persona” you would put on maybe in the world of celebrity partying where your trying to fit in. (Kinda makes fun of the whole craziness of the persons you put on when you “become” this other person these bad habits give you. The vampire part signifies the monster aspect and the fact that they are only out after dark. Then the other vampires all signify different qualities you get from the bad habits (over indulgences, mood swings…etc). The balloons with the happy faces on them signify always looking for the next thing to “bring you up” all the things you might do or “take” maybe when partying to elevate you but their balloons signifying it’s all only fleeting it’s gonna pop you don’t stay up for forever… The girl he tries to hand the balloon to signifies the acceptance he wants but also shows that you might think your great while your in this mood but others might see your actually not as great as you think you when doing these bad habits. The fact that all this chaos is happening around him and he dances of by himself shows you aren’t even aware at the time the chaos you create around you your just focused on having a good time. You don’t even realize the mess your making or consequences piling up because of the bad decisions (all the people just tumbling together in a heap) it all leads to major disasters in your life (like the “crash” of the car wreck) and don’t realize your destroying yourself (he catches himself but crumbles in front of himself) and you can’t see it in the middle of your bad habit because your focused on the fun ( he shakes of seeing himself like that and just shrugs) then as it starts to lighten up out all his “friends” run away. And he stays in the light because he still has food in him he hasn’t given in fully to the lifestyle. Then it shows him back as himself in the light of day “sober” for lack of a better word. Just as himself in his own clothes getting back to being himself.

My interpretation was that his relationship with his, I guess partner, was not at a good place and he was going through heartbreaks so he was looking for a way out perhaps by indulging himself in bad habits, getting drunk and meeting other people. It was all fun and games at that moment but it always ended up making himself feel worse and hollow. And “you” in the song also implies the bad habits, the side of him that lost control.

It's got a strong 80s vibe, a bit Smalltown Boy, Enjoy the Silence and a bit Calvin Harris style.
