The fancy party destroys me every time. That was probably the first time anyone's ever rushed to Ed's rescue. He's been fighting his own battles since he was a child. His mother couldn't protect him or herself from his father; he ended up having to protect her instead. And then one day this bizarre little man, this f#$%ing lunatic stands up and says, "No; I'll take care of this, I'm not going to let them hurt you." And then he does. It's one of the most romantic things I've ever seen on TV.

The way Ed looks at Stede as the party turns to chaos, equal parts “I underestimated you” “thank you” and “you are SO hot”.

I'm obsessed with this show and all the times Ed looks at Stede, he looks so soft. One of my favourite scenes is when Ed is going through the ship whilst Stede is sleeping and he goes through all of Stede's stuff and he's so impressed with this weird man who has a miniature version of the ship and a library next to open flames. Also when Ed stares at Stede after he sets the ship on fire with passive aggression.

I love their very first scene together, Stede's bleeding out, and the smile when he hears someone's heard of him. He probably thinks he's dying, but at least someone has heard the enduring tale of the Gentleman Pirate... ...Then he isn't dead, lucky for all of us!

Perhaps Stede’s introduction to Ed (Blackbeard) represents his detachment from an upper-crust society that never suited him, luring him to the pirate life that calls to both of their souls. It brings them both to their true love. The truth allows to Stede to both control his life’s narrative AND to go find his soulmate... I NEED MORE OF THIS SHOW.

HOW does Taika manage to make "I've heard all about you" sound like "Let's get it on, baby?" It's a talent.

I love Mary's reaction when he says his name is Ed. She's a little surprised but she's still so supportive.

I am a 59-year-old cis-het woman who is COMPLETELY enamored with this show and in particular, the Ed & Stede romance. Two middle-aged guys trying something new with their lives and falling in love -- the goofy, touching sweetness of these two -- just melts my heart. (And it doesn't hurt that Taikia Waititi is freakin' hot as Blackbeard). Thanks for putting this video together -- it will have to do until Season 2 comes along! (I HOPE)

Ed is insecure. Like massively insecure. He's been waiting for the moment Stede would wake up, see that he's a monster and leave him. He doesn't believe he deserves Stede's love, or a second chance in life, no matter how much he wants both. So of course his first thought would be that Stede left him. That's what's he's been expecting, dreading, all this time. The song that plays when he leaves the dock alone gives a huge hint. The part that says "you made me forget myself, I thought I was someone else, someone good". That's exactly how he feels.

Yeah, If Chauncey had succeeded in killing stede, edward would've never known and gone on hating stede for abandoning him forever!

I first watched this show with my girlfriend. Before I had watched it, I had the kiss spoiled for me. But that didn't mean when it happened I wasn't still in disbelief. So many years of queerbaiting, and this show doesn't even do the will they won't they. They kiss in the first season. It's insane. My gf is going to rewatch it with me once the second season is out! I'm very excited :)

Oh God, and I just realized the possible double meaning of him touching the silk in his pocket again afterwards 🥺💖 Obviously he's still ruminating on the whole "You wear fine things well", but also the fact that it's placed over his heart makes it seem like he's touching over his heart going "What...am I feeling right now??"

I never thought I'd be invested in a tv show about pirates going through a middle life crisis and finding real love in the process, but I'm here for the long run! Blackbeard is my favorite by far, ugh specially those last episodes 😭😭😭😭 and that wink after the "never left"... Yeah, I would have married him then xD They better renew it for season 2 OR ELSE!

omg literally what i said-I think ed moved forward to be physically closer to stede because he did want to share a kiss (or hug or sum idk. something intimate tho for sure.)-- but didnt know how to convey those feelings towards stede. then stede turned and ed just followed along. ed even bumped his arm so that he could have literally any type of physical contact with him lol
