Eco India: In space-strapped Mumbai, citizens are using a Japanese technique to create green cover

Every week, Eco India brings you stories that inspire to build a cleaner, greener and better tomorrow. Our top story this week looks at the Miyawaki technique, a Japanese afforestation method named after its developer botanist Akira Miyawaki, and how creating dense man-made plantations using this technique can improve the local ecosystems and bring back the lost native species.

I live in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu in a place called Vadavalli which is at the outskirts of the city. When I first bought my home here there were no trees and it used to get extremely hot and dusty during summers so I started planting trees around my house and in the neighboring empty land. 9 years later every space surrounding my house is covered in trees and vegetation and I can feel the difference as my home is much cooler than before and I don't get dust allergies anymore. Trees are truly a gift by mother Earth!

I've been watching many of these videos on the innovations India has been putting in place to improve conditions there, also the clean up efforts to reduce pollution and bring back lakes and beaches. Once they fix the land problems, the heat problems, the pollution problems, the infestructure problems, next if they would begin to love and care for their women, I men really care for them. If the women would in turn really do the same. If they all would begin to really love their children, fiercely protect them, and hold them in high esteem as their most precious assets, things in India would begin to start healing in many ways. India would have more of a fighting chance to end corruption, end drug use, end the sex trade, and end pedophilia, end the slavery, end the caste system. They've always had the tools to do it. Do you know how old India is? It's so old that most of the neighboring asian countries got the building blocks of how to manage their societies from india. If india went back to their ancient governing principles then they would essentially be poised to returning to being a paradise on earth. Once they turn away from European/ western ways, and re-adopt their own ways, while mixing in ONLY the modern things that work for India, their would be no stopping them.

8:25 That is a Giant African Snail. It is an exotic species, not native to India. It is one of the most damaging snails in the world because it consumes at least 500 types of plants and can cause structural damage to plaster and stucco structures. This snail can also carry a parasitic nematode that can lead to meningitis in humans. One of the most damaging snails in the world. If you find it,you can take it home and make an enclosure for it(search on google how to make its enclosure)and can keep it as a pet.
