Good video and to the point. I like your method the best. I think I will remove tabs and reinstall for easier adjustment. Thanks

Thanks. This may be confusing to some as you show the chain saw partially disassembled. I was able to remove the limiter caps using forceps without any disassembly. It took a few tries but they will come off. I left mine off and now I can easily make high and low speed adjustments when needed and you definitely need to adjust the low speed on Echos from time to time.

After adjusting the carb, do you re-install the caps? Will the adjustment wander later on without the caps? I just removed the caps and adjusted the carb on my CS355T. Used a tach to set the high. Runs so much better now.

I will do a video on that eventually but there are several videos on youtube already on how to adjust chainsaw carburetors. The procedure is the same on any saw. Thanks for commenting!

Hester, I'm a little late to the party on the limiter removal video...apologies. Very good description on the cap removal. I will remove the caps, but need to know what the tip configuration/shape of the proper adjustment tool is...for a ECHO CS440. I bought a package of 12 different adjusting screwdrivers and they aren't marked as to what saw, etc. to use each on.

I believe a small flathead screwdriver will work with those, but not sure. Once you have the limiters off, you can look at the screws with a flashlight to determine the shape and find the corresponding tool.

@@cobhc1986 Thanks for the quick reply! My Weedeater has a splined tip, but was unsure of the ECHO chainsaw.

As far as I know, there is no way to rejet these carbs, you simply adjust the fuel/air mixture with the adjustment screws shown in the video. L screw controls mixture at idle and throttle response and the H screw is the high speed adjustment for wide open throttle. The CS400 does have a rev limited coil, so that makes tuning by ear at WOT a little more difficult because the rev limit sounds a lot like the “4 stroking” sound you would adjust to on a saw without rev limiter, so you want to tune for max power in the cut.

Just acquired this chainsaw and will be troubleshooting the carb soon. What’s the purpose of removing those limiter caps?

Due to EPA regulations, the carburetor adjustments are limited to a range that is within those regulations, the problem is that they are usually set a little too lean, which will shorten the life of the engine and cut down on power. The limiters have to be removed if you want to set it to where it needs to be. There are plenty of videos on KZread that show you how to properly adjust the carburetor.
