5 - No more Stihl's! - Why I bought Echo!

I used to work at an Echo dealership and they sent me to a factory school so I would be certified for warranty work. I found out at the school that the engines on Echo were manufactured by Kioritz aircraft engine Co in Japan . Built on aircraft specifications and they will run without rings on the pistons because very close tolerances required in their engines. That's why they last and are easier starting than most any other brands made. I like them and I've owned Stihl, Homelite, McCullough and Polan. Polan and Homelite I would never have again.

I used to work for Home Depot and had a Stihl weed eater at the time. ALWAYS a pain to start and keep running. I got the straight shaft Echo and have never looked back. Wound up giving the Stihl to a friend so he could have extra parts. I've had the weed eater for about 10 years and have only had to put it in the shop once. I bought a Echo CS 310 chainsaw 3 years ago and smooth sailing with it too. Besides the warranty time, Stihl (as of 6 years ago) only had a EPA Class B rating, while Echo has a Class A on everything. Makes a world of difference. Thanks for your time.

You will be happy with Echo. I've worked on a lot of saws and blowers. The Echos have the steel caged crank bearings, vs the nylon caged ones the other two use, which don't stand up. Echo also does not use the strato-port, so the piston gets better lubrication and cooling. I'm not sure why your Stihl dealer would think a saw should leak over time, some of them seem to prefer to just sell new saws. I'm impressed you do pressure and vac tests, so you're well on your way to being able to track down the source of the leak. I'd check Decomp valve, base gasket, Impulse line, as well as the mating surface around the intake manifold to the carb. Between the pressure test and a few shots of carb clean when the saw is running, you should be able to find any of the air leaks. I have a few vids too that might help. Good luck 😉👍

I aquired three echo line trimmers recently from one of the pallet sellers. Two just needed the carbs adjusted, removal of the plastic plugs on the carb adjustment screws and the third one had no compression. I noticed that none of them had mixed gas in the fuel tank. I ordered a piston and ring kit for the one. It was easy to replace. The cylinder was fine. Once I put it back together, put some mixed gas in it, it fired right away. Unlike a Husqvarna trimmer, I couldn't get the rings to compress enough to slide the cylinder over it, so I junked it. I sold the rebuilt one and basically got the other two trimmers for free. I'm still using them and very happy. Yep I will use echo equipment from now on.

Two thumbs up from me on the Echo power equipment...I try not to be a fan boy...but I have had much more positive experiences with Echo/Shindaiwa than with Stihl...mostly I think the troublesome starting/running issues with Stihl were they were being used by multiple operators - while now I am the only person using my power equipment...and I believe this is a bigger reason why my Echo/Shindaiwa equipment runs flawlessly. Even my Ryobi and Poulan Pro saws are reliable and are great value tools for me...my best advice is never lend your two stroke power equipment to other ppl unless it is a dedicated loaner tool-not your main saw/trimmer/blower.

Dont give up on your little stihl 250, they can get finicky once in while and i can tell you that when you clean the carb use a very small spring (unwound) to clean out the small ports next to the throttle valve plate inside the bore of the carb. This seams to work when they start running poorly at low speed and idle .Lots of compressed air and carb cleaner also. One other note on echo stuff, they send them from the factory running rich, don't know why but they do. When Echo jumped up into the Pro saw market, i didnt hesitate buying their new CS-7310P Pro chainsaw. I didnt hesitate buying it because i know for a fact the CS-7310P will out live me. Why spend the premium when the Echo will do everything a Stihl will do. And to top it all off, Stihl can`t even compare when it comes to the Echo 5 YEAR warranty! Nough said right there. Brands like Robin and Kawasaki use to make Weed Eaters also

It’s like buying any other product , my dad used to tell me if it’s got tits or wheels it’s bound to give ya trouble, pick the make and model and trim you want whether it’s a truck, woman, saw , or bike because they all have problems 😂. I run so many different saws, Stihl, husky and the older Olympic saws have been my favorite. I started buying certain clone saws from Holzfforma and tweaking and tuning to what I like. The G372xp was $190 plus shipping when I got it on sale. So it’s been nice, can put regular husky and stihl parts on them also. Another cheap route you could consider. Good video 👍

Ok well good luck. I've always thought a good marketing slogan for Stihl would be: "I should have bought the Stihl". I don't disagree with you that the pro models are much better. There is a fine line between brands and what they consider a pro saw. I have both pro and homeowner saws. Some people can't afford or justify the cost of the pro models. I would be more inclined to say that some brands are terrible. I think that saws should be bought with regards to the intended application usage. Although the pro saws are better they can be overkill for some buyers and if you only buy pro saws I am sure that you know that there are some lemons in that category. Thanks for watching!

I have to question why anyone would want to buy a new chainsaw these days? Plastic piece of crap! If you want a good quality chainsaw you need to take a step back in time around 25 to 30 years and then you will have a quality piece to enjoy! Echo Koritz, Made in Japan! Great little saws! I have a chainsaw collection of around 70 saws, And half of them are vintage homelites. One of my favorites is a Husqvarna 266xp from Tomos Slavaina Yugoslavia! I did an exaust mod and went from a stock 224 to a 255 carburetor from a Husqvarna 1320K cutoff saw and that thing nothing short of fun to drop into a big Douglas fir and watch the chips fly! Get your hands on some old pioneers, Sachs-Dolmar, Roper, and then you will have a chainsaw! I just seen a Stihl 881 on Craigslist and the guy wants over $2000 dollars for it! I don't know if I have that much money invested in my collection of 70 saws! And when someone is selling the damn thing after owning it for eight months it tells me a story about the over priced plastic turd!

Stihl, Husqvarna and Echo all make great saws and they all have a not so good model or two. The best saw would be taking the best from each saw and marking a new brand. I have grown to really like the Echo saw that I purchased. The budget that I set was not because of constraints but rather because I wanted to replace the Stihl 250 which is roughly $500 here with another saw at the same price so I could see what other brands offered for the same price. I have a lot of saws, new and old and love them all. Thanks for watching!
