    Yep, even though life would be "easier", routines are "good/successful/safe", and we'd make at least the same amount of money, it'd be MUCH less stressful on our body and its parts, we'd have a more normal working schedule, and Jon Q. Public would admire/respect/understand us and what we do as much if not more. It's kinda nice but it also really kinda sucks!

    I'm anxious to see the clutch install with it hanging on the input shaft. I never really thought of doing it that way but it makes sense that it would be a lot easier esp if you're doing it by yourself and don't have another guy to help get the fork over the throwout brg.

    Great to have an explanation of timing the gears - I have heard a number of stories about rebuilds of these transmissions that did not get the gears timed correctly, resulting in not being able to shift into some gears. Not a happy situation if the transmission is already back in the truck.

    Warren, you can weld a bead on the inside of those bearing races/cones, they'll shrink when they cool down, should slide/fall right out. Saves you the chance of "nicking" anything.

    I know on the older transmissions with OD in the front section the shift pattern was reversed with high gear against the dash. On the newer ones they did something to the last shift rail in the top cover to eliminate the reverse pattern. I'd really be interested in seeing the way that was done when you put the top cover back on.

    Thanks Warren for allowing us viewers with different knowledge, skillsets and experiences tag along with this large transmission project. So the final part is to put clutch on transmission and install into truck, fill with lube and test drive? I understand having to remember many different things and not specializing. It is one of the reasons I dislike regular PM work. I like to learn something, figure it out, then how to do it better next time, then I am ready to move on to something else. The Pete/Repeat stuff drives my brain to sleep.

    I have a crane that stuck in high gear today 10 speed. Looks like I need to check the shifter splitter, the air lines to the case and on the case, pressure regulator and filter, pre select lock out pin, and the selector o-rings in about that order from what I see on this video and a google search of the high/low shifter fork assembly diagram. Weird how I found exactly what I need posted on the exact day and hour I need it!

Those maybe wondering about gutted shifting towers , slack in the shifting pattern , damaged sliding clutch/collars , sliding collar teeth damaged on 1st ,2nd ,3rd & 4th , damaged shift forks and rails , and a damaged high/low range synchronizer may find this interesting >>>>> kzread.info/dash/bejne/rIBkrrppn9KWfco.html

    Maybe this will help. As in any gear train, if you are even one tooth off on any gear that set becomes elliptic. Also known as ..... Egg shaped. You may be able to rotate by hand but when you get to that point it will push one or the other gear shaft outward. The best indicator is a counter shaft will push the bearing race out of the main case. You might get it back together. Two teeth off, forget it. Count your gear teeth both gears. Divide by two. Paint mark your teeth. We call it "split the gears". Assembly your gears paint mark to paint mark.

  • @tmcweld

    @tmcweld

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@shortchange26 I understand what you mean if you don't rotate the shafts but are a tooth off it causes the gear to climb or push up. I mean in theory you should be able to rotate a counter shaft x amount of teeth as long as it's still axial lined up in the bearing race. Thank you for your input.

    Where are the limits of your knowledge base? You waltz through this projects with the pace of evident experience, video your path of assembly, edit the video at the end of your long days, and casually mention that you “occasionally struggle” mentally to stay up to your usual frantic rhythm. Well Warren, just to sort of put it in perspective, you are operating at a level and velocity that probably none of us will ever achieve or even dream of achieving. So it’s sorta mind boggling to realize you could do better and faster without the troublesome “struggles”. Then I would really feel like a slacker even more than now.

Warren has to fix this trans to support his family, and the poor owner operator will starve if warren ruins his rig!! You get one chance in this life, and warren took the " bull by the horns".. This isnt easy people, in fact it looks downright nerve racking. A major adult responsibility..you need to look up to this man and give him proper respect.
