Eating Peruvian-Chinese food at my favourite Chifa restaurant (Madam Tusan)

On this episode of Eating with Andy, I’m taking you to my favourite Chifa restaurant! It’s called Madam Tusan and it’s owned by famous chef & entrepreneur Gaston Acurio. Chifa is a fusion between Peruvian & Chinese cuisines, it’s extremely popular across our country & usually eaten on a Sunday. There are thousands of Chifa restaurants in Peru. They are found on almost every street corner in Lima city and even in places as remote as the Amazon Jungle!
2:20 - Wontons
3:50 - Buti Baos
5:00 - Inca Kola, Peru’s national soft drink. You won’t believe what it tastes like!
6:48 - Chicken Chicharron (fried chicken breast)
7:38 - Duck Fried Rice
8:40 - Stir Fried Noodles
10:40 - Fortune Cookie
More about Chifa:
In the late 19th century, there was a large wave of Chinese immigrants mainly from Southern China. Since many ingredients were difficult to find in Peru, the Chinese modified their cuisine and incorporated many Peruvian elements to create the fusion food Chifa. Not only has this Chinese influence in Peru given rise to a unique fusion cuisine, it is also responsible for contributing some indispensable ingredients to Peruvian cooking like soy sauce, ginger, and wok stir-frying.
Madam Tusan has various locations in Peru. I went to the one located in the Miraflores district in Lima city.
Address: Av. Santa Cruz 859, Miraflores

My mom went to Peru a couple years ago I was thinking “Man she won’t have much to eat since she’s never had Peruvian food.” Her group was part of a Chinese club and they took her to Chinese restaurants and introduced her to Chifa. When she got back I asked how was it and she loved everything about Peru. Machu Pichu, the city, met great people and had some of the best Chinese food she’s ever had. She said it was better than Vancouver BC.

Andy hi, I am a new follower on your channel. Many KZreadrs who spread Peruvian gastronomy make the great mistake of spreading fusion dishes or local creations, such as Peruvian food. Gaston's restaurants, almost all their meals are fusion, it is difficult to find a purely Peruvian dish. Please, avoid confusing our tourist friends with dishes that are not known, and that are not traditional from Peru. Your channel is very interesting. Regards.

My dad was a renowned Chinese chef and just recently learned about chifa. I really want to try it. I specifically want to try the roasted cuy. I've seen pictures of it and it looks delicious. It's amazing how food brings people together. Potatoes are from the Americas and what would Chinese and Korean food would be without chillies, which are from the Americas.

Just started reading the episodes about your visit to Peru. You confirm my belief that only in Peru Chifa is the best. In other Countries including America, Chinese Cuisine is not as appetizing . I remember going with my family when very young, to the Chinese restaurants & having a cubicle for ourselves. Brought back so many memories. Looked so delicious!

I had a bad experience in that restaurant a year ago, never going back there. However, I understand that this is YOUR preference for Chifa BUT, I would never recommend this to a foreigner visiting Peru. My advice is go to Chinatown, not just for the flavor but because is also super close to the historical center.

@@georgesotomayor8601 Ok, Ok....Sorry my man. You're not Gaston, you're his cousin or maybe just his hypeman lol No need to get upset. It is my own opinion. I have tried Acurio's food, from his hands, and I was not impressed. Maybe he just lost the spark for cooking, maybe he was just really good at selling himself. Who knows. After all the man has made money out of exploiting Peruvian food. Just so you know, Peruvian food was already well known everywhere, what Gaston did was he managed to exploit it in a way that Peruvian food got a lot more expensive. He made a smart move, but only for himself. Do some research on your own and you'll see. And by the way, soy mazamorrero! Take care!
