Excellent. Very helpful, hope all is well with you as it's been 8 years since you made this!
Thank you awesome people of the Internet! After 12 years this tutorial is still relevant!
10 years later you saved my life :(
I'm working on creating a new gradient and just searched on how to do it and WOW how lucky am I that this is your newest tut! You're awesome! I need to install Python first as I don't have all the options you have in the Palette right click menu.
Yes! by far the best way of easily creating a palette and converting to a custom gradient in Gimp
Super helpful almost 10 years later. Thanks for the help!
Still useful after 10 years! The interface has changed a bit, but the principles are still the same. Thank you!
Omg I wish I had stumbled upon this video sooner a big thank you for this time saving tip. I can't wait to try it out.
Your Instructions on how to install Python worked perfect!
Thank you for the quick and easy tutorial. I am new to Gimp, but you make it look very easy! Kudos!
Oh, man, so many things just fell into place! Thank you!
Your amazing!!!! This is exactly what I was looking for! Thank you so much!

Thank you! The level of detail and explanation was exactly what I needed. Many thanks!!
This is exactly what I was looking for! This video kills two birds with one stone because it teaches how to make a custom color palette *and* a custom gradient. Also, I am the 666th like haha.
Thank you so much, the documentation was not clear to me and you saved the day. This will mean a lot for someone. :)
You helped me a lot, thank you :) Great job!
Thanks for this! Very clear and easy to follow.
Thank you exactly what i was looking for!
Thank you for this great tutorial! I'm still new to color blending so this is very handy to have. :)
This is awesome! Thank you.
You can just right click on the small box in the palette editor and edit the color that way...save you the trouble of moving your mouse all over the place.
OMG this helped me SOO much thank you!
great tutorial
Thank you so much for this video!! :D
wonderful video, thank you
Thanks, I was having problems trying to do this with gradient editor.
This helped me in alot of ways :)
I'm going to try it now for my laptop and I'll let you know how it goes. On my PC I just reinstalled Gimp and now have Python installed. Before re-installing Gimp I copied my brushes folder. ;-)
I did it. Thank you so much
Thank you for creating this, exactly what I needed! Still helping people 10 years later :)
Thank you so much!
wow this is very helpful!!! thank you!! :-D
I wish some companies would invest into Gimp the way they do into Blender. 10 years have passed since this video and Gimp has barely changed, it's still just as frustrating to use, I think the devs have given up at this point.

I haven't used Blender since a long time ago. But now your comment made me corious because I remmember it to be also a complicated software. I hope that it got easier. And regarding Gimp: yes, I think there is version 2.10.x now and it looks quite the same as 2.8.x. But anyway, it is still a gread alternative if you don't have the money for the Adobe software.
I don't have palette to gradient option either. There is nothing below "Refresh Palettes". I am using GIMP 2.6.8.
useful -thanks!
Great entry tut. Maybe you can post a follow-up on gradients. They seem to be very flexible but tricky to create & use. Some gradients are fixed while others change their color depending on the fc. Thanks.
Fantatico! Muy util para hacer gradientes y menos complicado que la manera tradicional.
I once liquid shit into a bucket that had a nice gradient to it, thx alot!
Thank you.
very very helpful. Thank you so much!!!!!!
I am your 19 viewer! :D I rated 5/5 stars
Hi Gimp teacher, Thanks a lot for this tip! I would like to create a LUT RGB Table Gradient (en zo voort:) directly from a photography to coordinate with a 3D picture. Is it possible, in place of pick up colors in the gradient, to select a whole picture to make the gradient ? (I hope what I try to explain is clear) Thank you for your answer! regards mlig
Is there a way to make 2D gradients? This tutorials showed a 1D gradient (from one color to another). If you click on the foreground color for the "Change the Foreground Color" selector, and click the middle (paintbrush) tab, it's a 2D gradient from one color to several other colors depending on direction.
Thx!
I've got the latest version Gimp on ubuntu GIMP 2.10.32 and it is not showing in the palette the dropdown menu with palette to gradient. Did they change this?
i was born 3 days after this video
What if you want the second color to be transparent? How do you do that?
But how do you make one color of a gradient completely transparent? Isn't there a way for Gimp to change the opacity of each color, since Photofiltre could do that?
Thank youu
I was just gonna say the same thing! I have this problem too. :(
This is an interesting tutorial, but I see no "palette to gradient" item where it should appear. I am using GIMP 2.10.8 on Debian. I have no idea why it is like this.

I have the same problem
Hi there, trying to go to that web address and getting this message: The requested URL /portal.php was not found on this server. :(
i cant paste the pallate to the gradients
I cant download the python. How can i do this without it?
You are definitely dutch
sounds like one
why does it always take me to a video that has nothing to do with finding out how to use the pencil and paint brush on the STUPID PASTEL RAINBOW GRADIENT,this is cool though,I'm just pissed off when I'm looking for something it's never what I'm looking for :'(
In case my first comment got lost : If you don't see the "palette to gradient" option, Python is missing on your PC.
@GIMPtricks its still not working for me
@scoobydolittle me too

the only problem with video is that you need python to make work, and I just went to download it and it did not work, it looks like chinesse you are reading and you do not really know what is in that software, so becareful....
doesn’t work
When I add palette to gradient it does not work. dislike
no such thing as "export pallet to gradient." Sorry, but this video as of April 2019 is useless.
Thank you so much !!!
Thank you.
