Easy Tri-tip Roast on a Gas Grill
Hey guys, this is my first cooking video that Ive made and uploaded. So please excuse the bad camera work and bad narrative. I will get better as I create and upload more vids. With that said, this video demonstrates how I simply seasoned and cooked a tri tip roast. Thank You, Enjoy!

I'm back! This is THEE best video on grilling a tritip on a gas grill. The first one I cooked using your video was perfect. Thank you!
If anyone out there doesn't have a meat thermometer. Get one. It will keep your cook consistent and take the guess work out.

5 minutes High heat between 500 degrees both sides after maintain temp of 300-350 degrees 20 minutes each side depending how much lbs.
Tried this today and came out 🔥🔥
Dang you're even pulling out my favorite seasoning
Great vid. I also like a fat cap on my tri tip. The only thing I do different is once I move to indirect heat, I cook it fat side up, and I do not flip it. Let that flavor saturate the meat. Since it’s indirect, the bottom does not burn.
@jblmp215

That is a great tip. because that fat cap cooks/burns real fast. Thanks for watching.

About to get this in the next hour. I bought the Santa Maria tri tip from Costco and just pulled it out of the fridge . I have a new Weber with a sear side but only 3 burners . Will see. We like our meat the same temp as you . Hoping for the best
I've done indirect cooking for a little while but I like to see easier and a bit faster methods of doing so. And I like this method. I am going to do this again tonight and I know it will come out awesome like it did the last time I did.

Great video. That was my favorite rub to use but is now discontinued. I would use it on brisket and Dino ribs. Great stuff! What do you use now for rub?
@jblmp215

Fred Eagle actually just cooked another one last night. I mixed my own rub. Course salt, course black pepper, “hot shot” pepper and red pepper flakes. I brushed with mustard before putting on the rub. Best one yet. The local store here in CA still carry the rub in this vid in case I don’t want to mix my own. :) thanks for watching.

Looks delish! Got one marinating in fridge now. It’s a little less than 2lb. After searing both sides, how long do I keep it on indirect heat before flipping and then do I keep it on the flipped side for the same amount of time?
@mikamamma
3 жыл бұрын
Also, is it ok if I keep the dry rub on it overnight in the fridge?
@jblmp215
3 жыл бұрын
@@mikamamma Ooops just saw this. was on vacation. hope yours came out great. Over night is perfect for seasoning. Because it will absorb into the meat and make it more tender. After searing both sides, and placing on indirect, you would definitely need a temp probe to get to your desired doneness. Kind of hard to determine time because all grills dont perform the same. Im guessing for 2 lbs. No more than 30 minutes. That may be pushing it. So temp probe is best. Hope this makes sense.

JJs Way Mena ok , so once I put it on the indirect heat am I supposed to flip it at some point or just let it continue cooking on just the one side? Mine came out tasting amazing and looking perfectly medium rare, how I like it. However it was not all that tender. Could that be because of the fact that I flipped it halfway through cooking over the indirect heat? Not sure if I’m supposed to do that or not. Or could it just be because of the quality of the meat, itself. Would it ever have anything to do about the way it’s cut?? I’m not exactly sure what the term cutting against or with the grain actually means. Do you know? If so, Could you explain, please? Also does that really make any difference in the tenderness? Any insight greatly appreciated. Thank you for your initial reply and this great video, making it super simple and easy to grill something that once seemed somewhat daunting to me ;) TRULY appreciated! My family L🤤VED!
@mikamamma

JJs Way Mena just watched your video again and realized that you did indeed flip it once while cooking over the indirect heat so please disregard my question about that in my previous comment. Thanks though, for any of the other questions you might be able to answer!
Thanks for the helpful video! Do you think this would work for a beef chuck roast?
@jblmp215

Thanks for watching. This particular method wont. A chuck roast needs to be slow cooked. Either in oven, stove top, slow cooker or pressure cooker. Theres some helpful vids on YT on different ways to cook a chuck roast. 👍🏼
