Major Props for being humble enough to share what you do. Most older fisherman don't share their knowledge because they think it will ruin their fishing. Keep on Keeping on!

I've caught lots of steelhead in the Manistee river(Michigan) with atlas Brite and tight cured eggs. Only the clear and orange though.
Could you make a video for the true beginner like myself; how to properly setup a float rig, how to properly fish a float rig, what bait to use until you can get your own row/eggs, what areas of the rivers should you focus on or look for, what time of day and Months of the year are best to fish.
Great informative video!
Nice video, great help hope to see another one

great video kiddo! keep working hard!
Hey bud, a trick I use to get the eggs off the membrane is to actually use chicken wire mesh over a 5 gallon bucket or a large Tupperware. Just rub the eggs against the mesh. I promise you it will be wayyyy faster than using a spoon. I can describe further/send pics if you're interested. Just let me know.
Thanks Fray!

You're welcome, good luck!
Question. You normally tie up the loose eggs. But can you do the same with the skien (cut in portion size) if so do you cure them first or tie them first than cure them?
Just a friendly suggestion try small spawn bags at least around i catch way more fish on small bags unless I’m fishing big water like the Niagra river
Good job bud!
Great video! Do u mind sharing where you got the egg tying platform at? Makes work so munch easier.
I catch fish on brite and tight a lot, great for egg sacs
When you run out of that atlas thread, try using Redwing Spider Thread, it's clear and works waaaaaaay better.

Great vid man! Have you ever tried using spawn/eggs while ice fishing?
What’s some good spots to take my son in michigan? I live in Michigan city but work in New Buffalo 6 days a week and see the Galien River everyday but have never fished Michigan and me and my son just got our centerpins and wanna go for Michigan steelhead. Thank u for your advice. Looking for wading water and tentable area.
Thanks for the video. BTW, there is another better way of separating single eggs from the membrane. Place egg skein in a warm almost hot water, wait few minutes, and then keeping eggs in the same water start to massage the egg skein. Eggs will start to fall off the membrane. You won't damage any eggs this way, and don't worry they won't get cooked.
a good way of getting eggs off the membrane without scraping is running it under warm water. The skein shrivels up and the eggs just fall off
We use a lot of cured eggs. Keep on pounded them. 👍👍
Where did you get that egg tying jig? I’ve never seen one before. Thx for the video. Very helpful
Do you recommend curing with borax and salt/sugar or commercial scented and coloured cure?
What size hook is best while using the egg knot
Thanks for the info! Have a great spot for ice fishing if you plan on doing some more vids.

pro cure is the same..but adding colors and scents helps a lot. Krill is the best scent for the west coast, PNW and alaska. idk what works best on the great lakes i always fly fished out there and never bait fished.
How long can you refrigerate and freeze eggs with this cure?
what kind of eggs you use???
Hey Davis I really hope to meet you in person and rip some steelhead I am really into that kind of fishing and I’d love to exchange our knowledge!

Make a vid of how you fish them. Like how you rig them up
Hey man, to get loose eggs, it helps if the membrane is face up and then you gently scrape the membrane instead of the eggs directly... Maybe that's what you did but it looked like you were directly scraping the eggs. Great video.

If you can’t use real eggs what are the best baits to catch steel head? I’m going on a trip in the spring to target them I just would like to use a few things to see what works the best I’m a beginner at this type of fishing.

My personal recommendation would be 8mm beads, or small 1/32 ounce marabou jigs tipped with waxworms. As you can see by the other comments there are many many techniques besides spawn that will catch steelhead. Good luck!
nice vid man just to say if u soak your eggs in cold creekwater it will harden your eggs
@shawnturf1

the bite guide service so if you take home a fish with skein, how can you harden them at home? If i get a loose fish,ill river harden the eggs before i leave the river but the eggs i get in skein keep popping when trying to tie em..
@FishFray

Skein eggs don't toughen up much even when river cured. You can scrape them into loose eggs and let them air dry which toughens them a bit, but in my opinion skein eggs are always easily poppable and make messy bags
I know this video is old. But how long will the eggs last after you have brined them in salt and brown sugar?
@FishFray
Жыл бұрын
I either keep them in the fridge and use them within a week of curing , or freeze them indefinitely
Im back

Hey what kind of fish are in your fish tank?...I raise killifish myself. For salmon and trout eggs I just use natural Atlas Cure and after the eggs are cured I vacuum seal them in jelly jars and just keep them in the fridge. To vacuum seal them I just throw a burning piece of paper towel into the jar above the eggs and slam the lid back on in a hurry. Stand by for a PM from me on your email.
What state are you from?

The eggs are extremely fragile before curing they will just pop when you tie them up.
Fish fray I was thinking that you can send me some of you egg and I can send you some of my eggs and we can see who’s is the best

Borax is just sodium decahydrate, a salt mineral from boric acid. It's basically just salt that dissolves in water. It is used in such small amounts anyway and is diluted rather quickly. No harm to the environment.
