    Gonna try both as soon as my whole hog harvest is ready. Also where I live now, stew peas is called “soup beans”.

    Suggestion: Next time soak the peas overnight to cut back on cook time or soak it in some hot water for a few hours. Personally adding coconut milk to stew peas makes it a thicker version of a red pea soup I don't like coconut milk in my stew peas but to each his own. Nice looking dish. Well done for first attempt

    I like most stews and soup not surr which is my favourite. Brown stew chicken, pork, chicken feet, cow foot, beef , and fish.. I love them all Nick. Your stew peas looks delicious. I wish I could sample it. Thank you Nick . Blessings one love . 💙❤️🇯🇲💯

    Not exactly but you can kind of chew them if they’re cooked for a long time, if you happen to get one with a bite of something else. Allspice berries are pretty dry by the time they get to California- I wonder if they’re a little more flexible in their native Caribbean.

    That looks so good! But I’m curious about the peas. I’m betting that they’re the red relative of blackeye peas (blackeyed beans, blackeyes, cowpeas, field peas), even more flavorful than the light ones. California grows more pale blackeyes than anywhere but I have to go online to get red ones -from South Carolina! But CA also grows a small dark red kidney bean relative that looks a lot like the peas you’re stewing.

    Goya and a couple other brands list them as "Small Red Beans", still related to cowpeas but most of what we get in Jamaica is very dark

    Hey, thanks so much. Those red cowpeas from across the whole United States are well worth the price- with or without pig’s tails (not so easy to find in squeamish Central California).
