    NATHAN! I have a 1997 e39 528i M52 Single Vanos motor. I have a p1519 code (vanos mechanically stuck). I assume it is time to tackle this repair as I am at 207,000 miles. Do i need the special vanos and cam tools or can i just follow this procedure and take it right off as long as i dont mess with the cams or chain? THANKS FOR YOUR VIDEOS!

    you said after you took the canos screwes out that you dont need to time anything or do anything with that timing chain at all? the one that goes behind the vanos there and over those running wheels, you can just screw it out and just take it out and replace the broken parts in it and just take it back on agian?

    Hello Nathan, great channel! simple question: when I was tightening down the center bolts to torque spec (those inside the caps w/ reverse thread) the cams moved slight, like less than/or a tooth. Do you think I messed up the timing? car was just engaged (its a manual) and no lock tools whatsoever as everyone seems to do... It seems to be running fine but it kinda worries me. Thank you!

Already changed the camshaft both sensors (exhaust and position sensor, replaced spark plugs, disa valve, replaced valve cover and still has the same issue. Said it could be any of those. What else do I need to check?

    Awsome job, one thing though, I read in the manual that you have to install a special BMW part to where the banjo bolt goes. Then connect a compressed air hose to that part and blow some compressed air into the unit before you take it off. Do you perhaps now why that is and whether it's necessary to that? Thanks much

    Hello, thank you for the video. I have a 2001 BMW Z3 3.0i that just popped a P011 Code (vanos inlet camshaft, end position not reached). The dealer is telling me that it's something with the VANOS or camshaft position and that to fix something like that I'm looking at around at least $3600. That's about half of what I paid for the car and it only has 64000 miles. You're video has me wanting to try and replace the vanos myself. In your opinion, should I replace the sensors and solenoid first and see if that takes care of it, or replace the VANOS altogether? Will I need to redo the timing?

  • @NathansBMWWorkshop

    @NathansBMWWorkshop

    8 жыл бұрын

    +Ramon Valdez Man i wish that every time i replaced a camshaft sensor i would get $3600 lol, i think at this point you just need to buy a new oem cam sensor for the intake side, the worst case you need vanos seals but that is extremely rare on a car with under 150k miles, i have some here but i like to hang onto them for testing cars i get in, so i am enclosing a link to a oem sensor on ebay for you, they are not hard to install. www.ebay.com/itm/BMW-E46-E39-530i-525i-X5-3-0-E83-X4-Camshaft-Position-Sensor-Intake-OEM-AbE-/351554409628?hash=item51da46949c:g:GfEAAOSwT5tWJLz8&vxp=mtr

    I just replaced the exhaust side Camshaft position sensor on my 2000 528i, 97k miles, it still throws the p1397 code and shows no signal, it is showing intermittent signal on the intake side cps, ( I borrowed a friends Autologic) The car runs fine and then will just stall out while driving, usually upon acceleration away from a stop, it dies, and will not start, I have it towed, and when I get home, it starts and runs fine. (it has happened 3 times in 2 weeks) Does this sound like Vanos seals? Or am I looking in the wrong direction? Thanks in advance, and good video btw!
