The Department of Rural Development and Agrarian Reform in the Eastern Cape says wool farming is one of the industries it is investing in. The department built a shearing shed worth over R1.3 million at Nqamakhwe. The Bongweni Wool Growers Association says it has been struggling to make a profit since its inception in 2014. A total R22-million is expected to be invested for the construction of shearing sheds throughout the province in 2022, the 2023 financial year.
