Merino rams can weigh up to 150kg+, ewes can weigh over 100kgs and polled means NO horns. Scurrs occur in sheep with one copy of the poll gene, all sheep with 2 copies of the poll gene have no horns. The modern Aussie merino is being developed as a dual purpose animal, with good muscling, high growth, shearing is now done every 6, 8 or 12mths depending on bloodline. There are also lines that have a natural short tail so no tail docking needed, mulesing is not needed with the modern merino and some have 4 working teats that lead to better lamb survival. Good fat cover also helps for resilience during dry times. They lay down extra fat when feed is abundant and can then draw on those reserves when feed is a bit scarce. he Modern Aussie Merino is being selected for drought resilience, flystrike resistance and worm resistance. South African Merinos put more emphasis on meat, the Dohne is 60/40 meat to wool, the SAMM is 70/30 meat/wool whilst the Aussie Merino ranges from 30/70 meat/wool through to 60/40 meat/wool. The South African breeds are non seasonal breeders whereas the Aussie Merino is a seasonal breeder.

I'd love a Merino sub breed for DAIRY. Seems that is a rare to never combo.

The Merino crossed with Finnish Landrace and East Friesian are great for this. Reasonable to good merino type wool in the medium to medium strong range, good staple length and strength, good milk production, highly fertile, short tails and bare breech. The finer the Merino the finer the fleece of the cross will be. A 13 microm ram over 25 micron ewe with a heritability of fibre diameter is approximately 0.65. So expect progeny to be anywhere from 17 to 20 microns depending on the genomics of the ram. Ram can be fine due to environmental factors.

Why in this promotion of Merino are many other breeds shown? Or they aren't that knowledgeable about what they're promoting

What I want to learn is what a merino spring lamb looks like? So I can help promote sheep farming to the post millennial by letting the school adopt a lamb, but first I need to know if it will be cute enough for children and even teenagers to fall in love with?
