Love this era of eastenders full of great characters. Phil and grant together were magic. The shows the pits now.

This was the best story in eastenders history plus Johnny Allen

I like how Phil and Grant appreciated Jake saving their lives and they looked after him and returned the favour

I’m not totally connived on that. I think there were protecting their own backs just as much from being implicated, especially when Jake was trying to turn himself into the police. Although whilst Phil didn’t seem to have any real care about Jake I think Grant in the aftermath had some respect for him to work together.

@@gazzyb1079 think it’s more Grant felt sorry for Jake at the time . Also he don’t want Jake dropping them in it .. I’m sure grand was thinking he might be feeling the same if he shot Phil or something.. I also like to think Grant appreciated Jake saving him and grant at the time because if it was the other way round grant and Phil would of got rid of Jake and Danny.

Watching these clips together really shows how much of a great character Jake was, in my opinion at first he seemed to be more of a secondary character, thug for Johnny's protection and his purpose didn't seem to extend much further than that, but after Get Johnny Week and killing Danny, Jake really started to stand on his own as a character and was developed as a primary regular instead of a side character, he was then given he's own storylines and was made into a solid creation of the show. Shame he was killed off another example of EastEnders killing off their best characters.

Love this video. Love this period of Eastenders. Really wish Jake would come back to reveal if he is alive. Currently Ruby, Phil and Kat are on the Square, so who knows. Plus Alfie should know what happened to his cousins.

Quite the thing Alfie has never once mentioned Jake. It was implied more than once after Kat and Alfie originally left Jake was still in touch with them both.

Steve and Ross really look like real brothers As Samantha and Rita real sisters whilst Rita said she considers Sam like her Sister. Jo Joyner and Lorna really look like mother and daughter.

2003 to mid.-2006 was the gangster era (of course there was plenty of other stuff going on as well). Some people didn’t like the gangster element to the show at that time but cities like London (and even Liverpool) are fall of gangs. Between Brooksjde and EastEnders I’ve never understood why people have an issue with these storylines.

Looks like Grant and Jake made a sort of friendship whilst they were around.

I think Grant did have quite a lot of sympathy with what happened with Jake’s brother Danny and how he’d feel in his shoes back then. They seemed to have a great working relationship in the club too.

I can sort of appreciate why though. It was all hastily put together to try and lift the show out of a real rough patch. Ross Kemp in particular was there as a favour and they didn't have an awful lot of time to work with him, so they had to cut to the chase, leave aside the more everyday aspects of his life (and Phil's.) and just go straight into non stop action. It wasn't bad stuff, certainly made the show watchable again. But it was only papering over the cracks, as soon as Grant left it slid back downhill, albeit not as far as it had gone prior to his stint reprising Grant. These once-or-twice-in-a-decade cameos from Ross Kemp are all well and good, but for me it only draws attention to how better the show is with him. And the 2016 comeback was such a rush job that his character was all over the place. He didn't settle back into the role very comfortably.

97channel Yeah, I really liked Grant's return in 2005, a brilliant couple of weeks of episodes. The couple of months he returned in 2006 were pretty good too, it was just nice to have Grant back for a while like he'd never gone away. His 2016 return mind just highlights how bad the show has got that even Grant returning is a big disappointment. Didn't think there would ever see a time possible where seeing Grant back would disappoint me but EE managed to fo just that. It's sad to watch this show now & rewatch old clips of how good it once was.

He's Dennis Rickman, my son ! Sharon's adoptive half brother & Vicki's older half brother.

Jake was another good character they killed off! Should've left it open for a potential return. Then again I'm not sure they found a body so maybe they still could. The other one was Paul Truman, he had a really good character arc throughout the show, again shame they killed him off!

She was back then but she has a lot more character nowadays. Her standing up to the likes of Phil and Nish shows how far she’s gotten as a character considering she was nothing more than Billy’s wife back then.
