@@therealtazmahal To be fair' Phil is very lucky to be alive today. People have tried to kill him multiple times but Steve just got unlucky with his death. Didn't evening die a typical gangster's death in the end but rather trying to get one over on Phil, sad really because he definitely wasn't as tough as Phil mentally nor did he even take as many risks but he was a gangster and like you said, he was rich and successful right up until his demise. Phil on the other hand has had so many setbacks and whenever success looks like it's coming his way, something, someone or even himself always has to come along and ruin it.

I like how Eastenders tries to makes you think that being a businessman is by being hard beating up punters in around your own business in front of the locals. Phil really has got his own empire down to a T.

this was one of the best feuds of all time imo

Steve Owen was a great character. When winding up Phil in the Vic. they should have played some Spandau Ballet and have Steve say, 'At least you play decent music here!'

The fight that started at 01:53 was a proper fight that both people was envolved rather than just Phil punching someone and that's it, shame Phil and Dennis didn't go head on or Phil and Jack Branning or a lot of others, I'm glad Steve did fight back and not let him just punch and that's the end of it, it's always good when someone stands up to Phil Mitchell,

EE Scenes 85 And steve owen, derek branning was ok but he should have stayed don't know why those twats got rid of him, Aidan was awful don't know how mick and vincent were scared of him they could have easily battered him, willmott brown and stuart are way better villains than Aidan.

I think we underestimate Steve as a hard man as he put up quite a fight from Phil. I never noticed before but you actually see Steve punch Phil and before he punched him you see a mark on Phill’s face which means Steve gave him a punch off screen and who knows how many more. Phil just edges this one though and I’m not disputing that but Phil did have to put up quite a fight in that scrap you must admit. Any other time they came to blows physically was because Steve let him because of the mind games and all. Absolutely loved their feud.

Can’t believe how much smaller Phil’s head was in these earlier episodes.

I liked this era because sometimes Phil would win, and sometimes he would lose. When Steve McFadden returned from his break in 2005, the writers ensured that Phil kept winning all of his feuds which soon became annoying and boring.

veritas time so explain why in 2018 on average 6.8 million viewers for coronation street, 5.9 for emmerdale and only 5 million for eastenders! How does that make Eastenders “top soap” .... dearie! I still watch it with my wife, only because there isn’t much else on and I absolutely hate reality tv but let’s not fool ourselves that it’s a shadow of its former self and now has less regular viewers than Emmerdale.

Loved Martin in EastEnders. I remember reading that when he was offered the part and considering it, his agent said ' Mart you've got to take the part - this guy is you!'

When eastenders was in it's prime and worth watching..

Sir Guest eastenders certainly isn't as good as the 1990s and early 2000s. But time has changed and the gangster platform that were common with Steve Owen, Dan Sullivan and The Mitchell Brothers are of a bygone era. It wouldn't work in today's world as time has changed.

Steve lost but put up a really good fight. Could tell that Phil was relieved when he actually fell over outside.

Phil constantly had a face like a pan of custard boiling over, and Steve was never phased by it once, even when he got the odd knuckle butty of Phil

Even though that was early 00s had a mid 80s minder feel

Phil hurt Steve more than any other of his enemies. He got half of Steve's businesses, hijacked a business deal (with Beppe), beat him up in front of his wife twice and to top things, slept with his wife. Damn, ouch!

Oh my gosh did Steve make a monumental mistake by having a go at and bullying Mel in front of Phil. Phil hated Steve enough, without him tearing into the woman he thought the world of, and Phil wasn't going to stand by and let him intimidated her. Steve lost face here by being physically beaten up by Phil, but also let Mel see without any doubt who was the tougher and stronger man, and that this real alpha man was protecting her honour. It, was down hill for Steve after this episode .

John Yorke was one of the best writers. He constantly came up with good storylines and the right actors played the right characters. Now it is very poor- such a shame
