What I like about early Barry on EastEnders is he considered himself a bit of player, both with women and his gangster connections. He was chippy with it. As we get to know him better, we learn he's a completely clueless loser! Similar to Billy when you think about it.

According to the actor who played Barry, his character was made to become stupid, when Nigel left Eastenders, as Barry filled the void of the Squares idiot.

Also during his early times from 1994 to 1996 he was a bit funny and had some great storylines. Also after David wicks left. Barry started to be a bit serious and little bit funny. But when he got conned by vanessa in 1997. That's when he can get easily fooled by women. Looks like his big mistake and around November 1997 he started to be happy and he started to become a bit more funny, when he was joking around with Nigel and robbie.

It was his first appearance as Barry yes, but not his first appearance, he was a paramedic the one who turned up at the vic when grant wolleped David one and knocked him out , the guy who plays Barry was the paramedic and that was in 92 I think

I forgot to mention before Nigel left. Barry become just like Nigel. Billy changed I believe around april 2001as a loveable buffoon and minty changed later 2004. Butch from emmerdale changed in mid 1995.

Also when I was watching Classic Eastenders, I was surprised that Barry worked for the gangsters during his early appearance was he a gangster himself. What about Roy Evans, he was one of them in the past. Maybe one day they can show a flashback of The Evans family young version. To find out about their secrets just like the Mitchells flashback.

I believe the writers also change Ian Beale a couple of times and I can't remember what year they started changing him. Ian is funny and cool sometimes.

Stuart Highway was a bad boy and he changed in mid 2019 I believe. Yeah so many soap characters change after they appear different version and when they become popular. They start to change in the soap history amazing.

Barry's a lot thinner than he was during his last years.

He’s much more funny on the HBO show...

Barry was incredible characters of all time. In the beginning he got into trouble by being arrested by the police in 1996 for the second car lot fire and involved in Ian shooting. Then Barry changed became a lovable character and a gentleman.

I found out that The producers changed Barry Evans into a loveable buffoon forever as we know him as in 1997 around July just after he already met Vanessa, Barry personality transplant has changed, But the episode with Vanessa conning Barry in October 1997, He realise he did big mistake and was a big mug. So yeah that's the story.

He was a playya when he first arrived.
