East Lancashire Railway - Winter Steam Gala - 2015

It's winter gala time ! Which means, we head to our first preserved railway event of the year, which is, the East Lancs Railway, for their superb winter steam gala. We opted to visit on the Saturday (17-01-15) and to say the conditions were wintry, would be a understatement. With the late withdrawal of BR 92212, the ELR, managed to get a late replacement, in the form of Great Western Railway 0-6-2T Number 5643.
As usual the homefleet were all available, and put on some great performances, not forgetting to mention, Hughes LMS design Class 5MT 'Crab, that put in a storming run to, Walmersley Brook, with double banked, black fives on the rear. Ian Riley's Black Fives, were also paired together, for a run up the bank, to Heywood, climbing up the 1/85 climb past heap bridge.
A big thanks to the ELR, for another great event, with trains running to time, plenty of people travelling, and top performances from locos & crews. Hope you enjoy the video.

Very enjoyable The shot where two trains passed in the dusk at the station brought back memories of 50 odd years ago When I spent many hrs watching the trains at the village station near where I lived as a child. Thanks for posting

some very memorable shots there, particularly nice @ 2:20, the shot through the tunnel and the closing shot. Good to see the Crab being given a good workout.

AndreiTupolev Some great performances, from crews & locos, again ! The Crab, with the double banked Black Fives, was my favourite !
Great video with absolutely great atmosphere at the end at Ramsbottom with the train passing too. From your camera point I could see the place at Ramsbottom from which my car was stolen about 18 years ago when I was there with my grandson!

An excellent video which I really enjoyed watching. Ramsbottom is a station with something of everything ( level crossing,signal box,traditional lamps,footbridge and water tower etc).. So movements there are always worth a second look,which I am going to take now.Many thanks for your success on a cold day.

Visited this winter "warmer ??! " several times in the noughties but my bloods much thinner now !! Excellent shooting of the (and in the !) conditions , thanks ., the lighting at ramsbottom station under the canopy captured really well.

Yes Liam, it's useful to have if we want explore several railways in an area such as Norfolk later in year. The ELR is now firmly on my 'wish list'!! lol

No, it's not a public access spot, there is one before the station in the direction of Burrs, foot crossing if I remember correctly. The trackbed from Burrs to Rawtensall is owned by the council, not the railway, so in theory you can access the line with the correct PPE.
