    I’m glad SC has matured since then. Edit: Y’all are absolute imbeciles. I normally like refraining from insulting others in debates, but countless insults are deserved in this case. These players are college students playing a game. Permanent brain damage is a ridiculous price to pay for playing a game, and if the game is going to be played, it must be limited in all possible ways. These hard helmet-to-helmet hits do nothing to improve the game; all they do is ruin lives for a few seconds of your drunken entertainment.

    I think this was an attempt on a clean hit that went wrong and I doubt this was an intentional move. The only reason it happened most likely being that he’s a young kid who’s too eager to make an explosive play that he didn’t remember the fundamentals. It happens to all of us.

  • @clintshepard2383

    @clintshepard2383

    Жыл бұрын

    I agree with you. I don't see it being an intentional hit. But I don't agree with you that he forgot the fundamentals. He may be young, he may not be, but if you watch from the back angle you can see that he didn't duck his head or lead with the crown or anything... Every person has a forward lead of their head when sprinting. He did, and it never went down further than that. And on the the head and neck area, I am reallllly not agreeing on that. He put his face mask right into the players chest. It was a bit high maybe. That's hard to gauge when the receiver is mid air and you're sprinting b-line ready to knock him into the oblivion. I think there needs to be a foul that's for a play like this, which is very hard to say with certainty it was targeting. And hey, I could be wrong. I was a starting D-Tackle for Utah, in 2014, the year we led the nation in sacks and second in tfl's (I know that sounds douchie, but i say it just so you know I'm not some couch warrior). And last thing, I grew up being taught and also wanting to lay the biggest hits on any victim. Crackback? Oh yeah, bring it on!! But, I actually now hate seeing players seeing a guy who's not even really a part of the play but close enough to "justify" wrecking some dude who isn't even paying attention. But this play, I just don't see it. Extend the rules of what inherits unnecessary roughness, and maybe it would deserve that..? (And yes, it's midnight, I can't sleep, and I put all that effort into writing a book for a comment! I'm that bored... lol. Take it how you may!

    As a former D1 player, I urge you to slow it down and watch it…@ 1:07 the RB drops the pass and looks down, this extension of the neck creates a far larger range of motion and allows for the “whiplash” effect. As far as, the hit is concerned the DB was not targeting the receiver the is evident at the 0:58-0:5 9 mark when he does not launch, but instead performs the duties of his position, as he was trained to do, in a spectacular fashion.

    Huge hit, but it looked and sounded worse cuz it was on a smaller player. Like when Sean Taylor leveled the punter in the pro bowl. Dude was just trying to dislodge the ball though. And if he hit him with the helmet it was by accident. Sometimes I dunno how hard a hit is allowed. In a bang bang moment it's tough for these defenders. Edit: I believe that's actually a 5' 9" running back, 184 pounds, that's why he looks so small out there.

    Another instance of "could the defensive player literally have done anything differently, within human constraints, to prevent the catch/TD?" Football is a game of momentum. The defender should not be penalized for proper angles. Period.

    @@bellyofthebeast6605 Apparently "allow the score or accept the foul", as many sports have adopted. It's a damn shame. Slow-mo replays have really turned football into a game of judgement-calls and technicalities, and I'm not on-board with it. I understand why things changed regarding the state of head injuries, but they've overreacted grossly. Good thing the NFL/NCAA doesn't influence the DOT, or we'd all be required to wear helmets while driving no faster than 20mph.

    @@bellyofthebeast6605 I’m actually glad you said this. When these rules were being implemented in the NFL a safety on the commanders (redskins at the time) named Meriweather was asked in a interview about possibly taking a dirty hit low. His response was blunt but to the point and made sense. “We are not allowed to play how we used to play. We can’t hit them high so we gotta basically end their careers and take their legs out. I’ll rather hit them high but ima get a fine for that so boom I gotta end careers now!” I was like sheesh but made me think about it ever since then

    What? He looks at the guy to see if he's ok. He then turns and celebrates a pretty good play with his team mates. Put a stopwatch on that. If he's dogging him it's the fastest in history. Was a bang-bang play. Defender's head was below the receivers. It was an earhole type hit. But in this case he was motoring in to break up a pass play. That's why he's there. He wasn't lining the dude up. He didn't have time. Sheesh.
