    Dope lesson. It's probably worth noting that the dim7 is so useful because it can be resolved up from the root, down from the 5th or 7th, and up or down from the 3rd. This makes it really good for key changes.

    It is by far one of the easiest, simplest, and most commonly used sounds to create a mild pull to the next chord. Has been used for literally hundreds of years and really should be a technique in everyone's tool kit!

    @@LoGsounds It's quickly becoming one of my favorite things to do. Particularly over something like this Am E7 progression, since all the notes in the diminished arpeggio are ones that stay inside the mode of A Dorian which works out really nicely(:

  • @LoGsounds

    @LoGsounds

    Жыл бұрын

    So over that progression, you can play diminished literally on the root of the A minor, that will give you 1-b3-b5-6 which are all generally palatable notes for a standard minor vamp (minor 6 with the casual b5). Do this during the A minor, and then when E7 happens play the diminished I'm doing in this video, which is the same diminished but back a fret, so instead of starting on A you start on G#. This diminished fits perfectly over that E7, as you would be playing a sound made of E7's b2-3-5-b7. This usage of diminished over this type of dominant chord is actually where diminished 7 came from in the first place.

  • @nateo7045

    @nateo7045

    Жыл бұрын

    @@LoGsounds Hah! I'll have to try that. So many little things right under our noses. And I was actually off a bit in my last comment btw. Was trying to say Aeolian instead of Dorian because you get the 2 4 b6 and 7 with the G# dim arpeggio, which combined with minor pentatonic (1 b3 4 5 b7) gives you all the notes of A Aeolian plus a maj7 but that's given to us by the third (G# again) of the E dominant. Hopefully that cleared up things if I happened to make little sense the first time around lol.. my mistake. Anyway, I appreciate all the engagement you offer on this channel atop of the content itself. It's a real treat.

  • @LoGsounds

    @LoGsounds

    Жыл бұрын

    It's all good! Even though it's not what you meant, you mentioning Dorian is actually why I suggested playing diminished off of the actual root, as it yields a natural 6 over that minor chord, which is the color note of Dorian, or what I call "the 2 chord". All cool sounds for sure!

  • @LoGsounds

    Over a dominant 5 chord diminished works perfectly, because it basically is the dominant 5 chord. When you play diminished over minor like I'm doing in this video, you're basically implying the dominant 5 chord, so you can use your intuition and ear to figure out when it's appropriate. • @LoGsounds

    @LoGsounds

    Жыл бұрын

    Thanks for the comment. 1.) These are KZread shorts, they are 60 seconds maximum. Only so much you can do in that timeframe 2.) The material discussed in this short is not necessarily for beginners. Some of my material is, but this one in particular is more for people who are familiar with the sounds being discussed, and would like some guidance. 3.) My material is not necessarily about copying the licks I'm playing. It's more about taking the concept that I'm talking about and doing your own thing with it. In reality, creating your own ideas with a concept is far more valuable than copying someone's licks. If you are interested, I am beginning a very long series on this exact sound tomorrow on my channel.
