    Not that I'm aware of. Only the back glass is dipped, and when I lift the phone out, I let the solution drip off first. What I did was use 2x plastic razors to make up the 'height' difference caused by the camera lens protruding. Everything is still checking out ok on this phone so far.

    99% isopropyl alcohol but you have to be super super careful to just barely dip the back glass. It will pull into the adhesive via capillary action but any deeper than that, you could potentially get it in the camera which is not good.

Still a very tedious process removing every little piece, and due to possibility of something as small as the surface being off-level causing issues, I more or less abandoned making the follow-up video to protect others. I did share what I did in the comments earlier though. *so sorry I just realized so many of these comments, I never received a notification for. Will be checking manually from now on.

    Hello, Sorry for the delay. Just over a month after this video, the rear camera started making noise with intermittent focus issues. Could have been unrelated/coincidence but to ensure our viewers don't get led down the wrong path, we have expanded the experiments. We have taken several phones from iPhone 11 to 14, some with the internals removed so we can see if there's any solution coming inside of the frame and what not. So far, everything is checking out. Just giving it a bit more time, and using the cameras more on an ongoing basis (just in case doing this shortens the lifespan of the lubrication applied to the gears) We were careful with the depth of the solution for this phone in this video and looking at the footages from this video, I do believe the camera issue may have been a coincidence but by doing the experiments with the internals removed and recording we're finding out how much solution should be used, and for how long. One thing I can say though is that it works well for small pieces, but not for larger pieces so you'd want to get a back glass breaker to break the larger pieces into smaller pieces. Very promising for DIYers without the laser machine so far! Any questions/concerns, please do not hesitate to comment further/contact us.

    I know I'm so late on the follow up of this video so I'm just going to tell you. (mgiht delete this after though) The trick is 99% isopropyl alcohol only, overnight/8 hours+ in this video. Very very little amount, just enough to wet the back glass (plastic razor blade to prop up the bottom of the phone to 'even out' the camera lens protrusion. You do still need a back glass breaker as the trick only works well with smaller pieces of glass (Better alcohol absorption) Also, it works much better in a closed container as open container causes too much evaporation.

    Indeed, if the phone was to be submerged fully, there is a risk of other adhesive coming off loose. However, in this case, the orange plastic razor blades were put in to make up for the height difference caused by the bulging camera lens. The liquid was filled up just high enough to make contact with the back glass and allowed to drip when the phone is removed. An interesting thing that I also observed, was that once the liquid was fully dried, the adhesive strength did return also.

  • @ecdiy

    @ecdiy

    Жыл бұрын

    Thank you for your comment! For sure, I agree that refurbished phones should always be described as such, and the price should reflect that. May I ask what you mean by "rear glass not under the camera rings", a proper replacement glass should be made to exact spec. Display glass alignment on iPhone 12 to 14 series isn't a concern as the bezel is virtually the same size as the front glass. Meaning it can only be aligned in order for it to be installed back on the phone. There isn't room for misalignment as there was with older iPhones fortunately. As long as one does not cheap out and get generic 'waterproofing tape' vs the OEM and apply heat and pressure to seal, the water resistance should be maintained.

  • @grandtheftauto1233

    @grandtheftauto1233

    @@ecdiy thank you and forgive my ignorance and ridiculous comment. Anyway, from what I’ve seen the rear glass replacements are designed so the camera lenses can fit through the holes, while the original rear glass actually goes below the edges of camera lens frame. This requires shattering the glass around the lenses to remove it, and the replacement goes over with a slightly larger hole. It couldn’t be like original unless you remove the lenses but they’re welded to the frame so it’s not feasible. Thus replacement glass has hole to fit lens through, unlike original going beneath the edges of it. Now this is pretty negligible but just something that can’t be solved with rear glass replacements at this time (if you can even see it). Keep up the amazing work!

It doesn't apply to this video but I have submerged OLED displays for as long as 48 hours (48 hours was done on an S22 Ultra, but I have submerged many OLED displays for a couple of hours without an issue).

It may not be saying much as it's not 'easy' in a traditional sense, but we've been doing some experiments with friends & family who do not have repair experience and both Apple and Google devices, especially the newer ones (again excluding Pro series) are quite forgiving to DIY mistakes.
