I discovered your channel about 9 months ago, and I'm really happy I did. I lean more toward natural nail look, and don't like to fuss to much over my nails ( love the look that you did in this video, that's my favourite fingernail look as well). Initially I watched your videos to see how different 'natural' Essie nail polishes looked, but then I started watching your other videos as well, and I've learned so much. My nails never looked bad, but since I've been following your advice they look even better, almost perfect. I never felt comfortable cutting the keratinized skin of the pnf ( pain, redness, slight inflammation), and when I learned from you why that is not a good idea anyway, it all made sense to me. I started using nail oils, and moisturizing the skin more often and my pnf looks great ( and it seems to me that it got even less visible), I don't get hang nails or small skin tears like I used to. Your nail care routine is simple, easy, manageable ( even for someone who has never been to a nail salon), doesn't require a lot of time, and when you do it on a regular basis it gives amazing results. In short, thank you so much for all your advice, videos, and hard work. I hope your channel and viewership keeps growing. You deserve it!! Love and thanks to you and Mr. SL from TO Canada

10 years ago I bought Blue Cross because everybody was raving about this product. When I first applied it, I realized stg was wrong when my nails started peeling (like tiny strings but still...) and now thanks to you, a freaking decade later, I'm learning that it's not supposed to stay on the nail for more than 2 min 😱 The internet was wild back then. I never used it again, I thought it was just too strong for my (already extremely hard) nails. Your channel has officially become my new Bible ❤

Your demo is great for DIY; really clear instructions and camera angles. You narration stood out against the soft background music. Thanks for clarifying your pattern recommendations for Erica’s Diamond Hand Files. Using a urea based cream & applying oils to my nails has really helped. I used to get a lot of hangnails and my nails used to peel a lot. Following your techniques has improved the way I file my nails.

Such beautiful healthy nails! Fantastic demo, thank you! I cringe whenever I sit at the nail salon and I let them literally butcher my nails, even though I tell them every time to be as gentle as possible. And when I see girls next to me having all these pointy gels, acrylic extensions..omg, I can't believe they are falling for this trend, given how much their nails and cuticles suffer. Their nails are absolutely wrecked...dry, peeling, cuticles raw and inflamed..what is wrong with this world that finds this (fakery) to be a beauty trend..

"I'm all about progress, not perfection." That's the reason I'm subscribing today. I'm in a dry climate and my nails are suffering, especially the skin around them. The skin can get cracked and sometimes bleeds. I knew I had to do something for them and I'm glad to have found your videos. I've learned that I am injuring my nails and skin, when I thought I was caring for them. Thank you for your minimal approach and sensible technique. I'm the customer that says "no polish" when I go to a salon, which I seldom do, and everyone looks at me funny. I prefer to take care of my nails at home, but now I know how to do it correctly with gentleness, care, and the right tools. Thank you!

So good to "meet" you :)) I have so many clients that say "no polish" too. In fact the pedicures I did today were no polish. Or often I do just a clear coat. Nail care that produces great results can be so simple and not expensive at all. Gentle care and consistency is what works, not "miracles".

Hi ! I would like to thank you so much. You've been quite helpful to me in only a short amount of time. I always thought trimming the cuticle was a must. No matter how much I tried on my own. I'd end up with hang nails or sometimes I'd accidentally cut myself. Ugh I'm following you're routine now. Which I really appreciate you sharing your knowledge. And also for making a pedicure video. Very informative and helpful. Yes. Somehow I got an impression, not sure where I got it from... That when you file and exfoliate your feet, all the dryness, etc, would be gone. I would put creams on my feet, though I put it on whenever dry or damp feet. Not after my shower, though. I now have a better understanding for my foot care routine. Once again, I thank you ! 🎉 I will continue to follow your channel ❤

Best video so far, because it showed me clearly how to work on my own nails from the correct perspective. I’m also a big fan of natural and short, because I’m a gardener and my hands are large and now 70 years old, so no need to draw attention, just keep them neat and healthy. I especially appreciated all the little tips along the way. Questions: do you recommend the diamond file and tweezerman cuticle tool more than the glass ones you were using, and is the Dior Nail Glow still your best recommendation for the natural nail, versus the less expensive option you used in this video? Thank you so much for doing these videos; it’s almost impossible to find a nail technician who understands and follows healthy practices.

Love doing manicure on my self at home at least once a week or two it's me time. I love watching your videos now very informative, so is bliss kiss who I learn about nails and all the nail terms. I like my nails naked nothing on them I know that's bad to do but I think it looks nice. I put a lot of oil and lotion on after removing nail polish and washing my hands.

There is absolutely nothing bad with not wearing polish on your nails. I think this is a marketing thing that somehow is now taken as a fact that polish protects the nails. I have to make a video about it but basically I wear polish on my nails because it looks nice, well, I like the way it looks and because it slightly changes how my nails are shaped. Thats it. :)

Just a little calluses because we use our hands. I don’t recommend cutting it. They will grow thicker and the skin might peel too. I highly recommend Kerasal to soften the skin around the nails. I explain this in the video called “3 habits that will transform your nails”

The proximal fold is the live skin that's slightly over the cuticle (just push back) She used blue cross and pushed back the cuticle . No nipping /clipping. I can link the video if you like

Thank you for doing natural tutorials and I second another persons comment that is great to see you do work on your own hands because it helps us see how you deal with the difficulties of shaping one’s own nails. Do you ever do videos on natural nail art for shorter nails? I love the bare/neutral look most of the time but do find myself missing the fun of nail art. It’s so much easier to do nail art on long nail enhancements but due to allergy issues, I’m no longer able to wear enhancements. I miss the easy length, but careful care and use of my hands allows me to grow modestly long nails that I can play with. Looking for shorter nail art videos is disappointing because most searches yield art on enhanced nails. Thanks again for posting this! :)

Hey Anna! Firstly I’d like to thank you for sharing your acknowledge with us! I used to be an avid naild bitter and got rid of the habit quite a while ago. Not only was I biting and hurting the nail itself, I was also picking and inadvertly cutting the PNF to the point of getting it hurt, swollen and red. It’s been a few months since I actually started taking care of the PNF (and that is thanks to you and your channel!). I now properly remove the cuticle, push gently the living skin and apply oils and creams on the regular basis. I do find, however, that the PNF is “loose” (as if the PNF was stretched and then pushed too much and left a “hanging” skin - even though I never actually let it get stretched). Could this happen because of the cutting? And if you ever had a client with a similar problem, did you see any improvements with time? I’m trying my best to keep up with the nail care but that hang skin does not seem to get better and I’m itching myself to not cut it all over again lol

Sometimes I notice that people are overly critical about their nails and skin around the nails. It's normal to have skin around the nails and it's normal to have that band of skin around the nails. It always is a little loose though. That is normal. It should be soft and pliable though and healthy looking. Sometimes being too harsh with the manicuring techniques can cause that skin to grow more to protect itself. It's difficult to tell you more without seeing your nails. Just have patience, if you cut that skin for years it could take a little longer for the skin to grow normally.

Thank you for your reply! Until I found your channel, I’ve never seen anyone properly talk about a healthy nail care. My standarts have been deep-pushed back “cuticle”/PNF until learning with you about the anatomy of the nail, how it works and how to care for it. I guess I’m a little anxious for results, though it has been many years of traumatizing such a sensible area. However, the change is already huge considering that I had sore skin almost all the time and spent a ridiculous amount of time manicuring (in the wrong way). I hope more and more people can see your work and learn from it! Best regards from Brazil!

I just started with doing home manicures after hearing about Olive and June. Thank you so much for your detailed videos! It is so helpful. I hate doing my nails, and don't really have much patience, but I'm trying to do more self-care. Applying the polish I find the hardest part for me, even when I apply it with thin coats. Is removing the cuticle and pushing down the skin a must do for a manicure? I skipped that step because I didn't have the proper equipment.

  • @TheSalonLife

    @TheSalonLife

    Жыл бұрын

Hi Diane, you don't need a special equipment to remove the cuticle. Just a birchwood stick and some Blue cross cuticle remover. The cuticle is removed to clean off the nail plate from skin cells so you can polish nice and neat. Polish will also not stick properly to cuticle. It will peel from that area.

I understand what you’re saying about nail ridges, especially as we age; however, some of the ridges on my nails (I’m 75) split the nail vertically down past the nail bed, even if I keep the nails short.. Sanitising tools. Wash them with soap and water and a toothbrush well and then soak them for 10 min in 70% alcohol. You can use a mix of 75% of alcohol (99% strength) and 25% pure cosmetic grade acetone.
