Easier canvas sheet feeding for your printer. Ensuring the canvas is flat and guiding the sheet

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Uneven canvas sheets can be difficult to load into printers. By making sure the sheet is properly flat and using a sheet of cardboard as a guide, many sheet feeding problems for canvas can be fixed.
The sheet canvas shown is HP Artist Matte canvas 380gsm, but cutting sheets from a roll is fine if you take care in the cutting and preparation process.
Many of my printer reviews cover feeding canvas, including making profiles for optimal print quality.

Thank you, Keith, for assisting beginners like us. I've noticed your extensive knowledge base and have been watching your videos for the past few days. Your wealth of knowledge is unparalleled, and I truly appreciate it. I've recently started a small printing business in Canada. While I have a couple of clients, the printing competition is quite fierce. To attract more business, I need to offer competitive prices to my clients. Could you please advise me on which printer would best suit my needs for printing flyers, brochures, and business cards? I require a printer capable of handling a minimum of 300 GSM / 14 pt cardstock and at least A3 size, if not A3+ (13x19). Despite conducting research for the past few days, I haven't been able to settle on one printer. My primary requirements include the ability to print on thick cardstock, A3 or A3+ size, cost-effective printing (both ink and maintenance), high-quality colored glossy prints, and preferably a feeder or roller system to streamline the printing process. I'm willing to invest more upfront to purchase a reliable printer to avoid higher operational costs later on, especially since my business will mainly involve printing large quantity bulk orders. This would eliminate the need to feed sheets manually, similar to the Epson 8550 (which I love due to its positive reviews). Any guidance you could provide would be greatly appreciated. Thank you once again for your assistance.

Thanks - Unfortunately, there is nothing I've looked at which remotely matches the huge range in what you are looking for. Remember though that my reviews come to this from the POV of photo and art prints, not bulk commercial print. What you want simply doesn't exist as a product from the parts of Canon and Epson I deal with. The nearest I ever got was the Epson 8690 www.northlight-images.co.uk/epson-wf-c8690-printer-review/ For example, the et-8550 you mention, is of no real use for a business looking at any serious levels of use. It's a consumer grade printer - great for what it is, and the market it's aimed at.

@@KeithCooper thank you so much for your reply. One thing I admire about you is how diligently you respond to every single comment from all individuals; I really appreciate that. I tried looking for the Epson 8690, and wow, what a printer. Unfortunately, it seems to either be sold at high prices or discontinued at most places in Canada recently. I've noticed this printer has a great paper storage capacity, but my concern lies more with its ability to auto-feed thick cardstock. I hope the storage supports auto-feeding of thick cardstock. Additionally, the ink appears to be expensive. Do you think a printer like the ET-15000 would be much cheaper to operate due to its significantly lower ink costs? As an expert, I value your advice greatly.

Thanks - the 8690 is just an example of what you need to consider Nothing auto-feeds thick cardboard... However,I've never seen an et-15000 I'm afraid

Hi Keith, I've recently subscribed. I'm wanting to learn about printing from home. Your channel is great. I'm yet to decide on a printer. The Canon Pro 300 is one I'm looking at and the other is the Epson ET-8550. I've watched your review of the Epson. Great info. I particularly like that you mentioned it can do long prints. I don't think the Canon can. But I can't find in Epson specs where the long printing option is mentioned. I think you said it can do up to 2m. Can you point me to the documentation where this is mentioned please? Also, regarding canvas, I have heard that 150 dpi is plenty for this media. But talking to local print house I've used, they want 300 even for canvas. Your thoughts please. By the way, I'm happy to pay for advice.

Thanks - first up, read the main [written] reviews - the videos are just supplements ;-) Both can do long prints with custom media sizes www.northlight-images.co.uk/epson-et-8550-printer-review/ www.northlight-images.co.uk/canon-pro-300-printer-review/ I would not want 150 ppi [ppi not dpi] on a canvas unless it was very big [several metres]. Actual numbers depend on the image and print size, but personally any number above 280 is OK - there are no 'magic numbers' though, so if an image is 418 ppi that's what I'd use

Could you advise if it is possible to print a canvas paper in an Epson 8550? Thanks for all your insight from printing to cameras.

@@KeithCooper I was thinking of whatever you were using in this video. I assumed these printers can't print canvas, but would like to know if possible, or something similar. Thanks again.

@@tmartin6717 yes - this example is proper canvas, just in sheet form. See most of my printer reviews, where I normally include some canvas. It needs to be suitable for inkjet use, but there are many suppliers of it, although pre-cut sheets are harder to find
