Earnhardt History with Aunt Cathy

Спорт

Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Kelley Earnhardt-Miller's aunt Cathy joined them on The Dale Jr. Download. Cathy gives a personal look into details about Ralph Earnhardt's health and the heart attack that caused his untimely death in 1973. She explains how seeing the shop door closed behind the house was crushing. After Ralph's passing, Cathy talks about how her brother, Dale Earnhardt, used his iron-clad work ethic to create opportunities to race. He was a self-made racer that eventually made it to the pinnacle of the sport. That success on track came at the cost of his family life.

After hearing this story and seeing the pressure on Ralph and Dale Sr...it make me think about the burden that has unfairly been on Jr. He suddenly became the leader of the family and of NASCAR. The pressure must have been immense these past 20 yrs

He loved jr so much he laughed at Gordon compared to Dale jr. He actually laughed at Gordons special driving. And was right. If jr does not want to be a negligent person. Then he might not want to be intense at driving

I think this story is a seminal moment in Dale's life that we the fans never really knew about that informs a lot about his personality. Like Cathy said, it changed him and made him bitter, and it doesn't seem like he fully got over it until well in to the 90's.

Hearing stories like this goes a long way toward healing some of the open wounds Teresa left on so many of Dales's fans when he died. A lot of us needed some closure but it wasn't in Teresa's heart to let that happen. So even after 21 years, family stories like these make Dales fans feel closer to him and get a little of the closure that they need.

I too lost my dad in 1991, he was only 51 and I was 26. It destroyed our family as well, he was our rock and protector. It hurts just as much today as it did then. Aunt Cathy was able to put words to how I have felt all these years. it was hard to hear but it helped me too. I think Jr & Kelley benefited by learning new things about their dad that may give them comfort by looking at a few things with a different viewpoint.

When Aunt Cathy confirmed "He was just as calm as he could be" and I saw Jr's reaction i lost it - I just lost it ... This is very personal - i was born not far from Whitesville & because we raised quarter horses and such I was a Dale Earnhardt guy before it was popular - I got a little irritated when everybody and their brother became a fan - but I get it - I reckon I'd have jumped on the bandwagon to if Id been late to the party
