This video shows the operation, disassembly, and reassembly of early Coleman stove generators used on Model 1, Model 2, Model 9, and Model 10 stoves. It also shows how to replace the original valve stem packing with graphite rope.

Bill, On the tpoic of generators. Is a generator kaput if the point of the cleaning needle is gone. The needle is there, but the sharp point is missing. Love your videos. Learned lots! Thanks.

More or less, yes. The cleaning needle isn't needed for the generator to function properly, but if the generator clogs, you'll have to shut things down, wait for it to cool, pull the generator, and manually clean the jet. That's how things were with Quicklites and earlier lanterns, but the asbestos packing in those old generators prevent debris from clogging the jet. All that said, if we're talking about an old Model 2 or Model 9 stove, you can replace the cleaning needle itself and those old parts are still available.
