Nice looking lantern!

Another great video. I just finished restoring that exact lantern. Old coleman parts has fuel gaskets and other parts for prentiss wabers lanterns.

Thanks for this info. I just picked up a 742.43 for 24.00 dollars. Any idea of the date it would have been made. Your videos are very well done. You would be a great teacher.

I've had difficulty finding precise dates for these. All I can really say is "1930s". If it has a Pyrex globe, it's probably one of the later ones. Thanks for the comment. I am a teacher, just not the school variety. I'm an Anglican priest.

Very nice! What do you think you could pack that preheat bowl with, that's a flame resistant fibre, that's not asbestos,

I'll have to get some and experiment with it, was trying to figure how to put a preheat cup on my slant 220 and 228 that doesn't interfere with the mantles, now I might try wrapping the generator in fiberglass rope, soak it in alcohol the ignite it, and see if that pre heats them enough @@king.coleman

Usually I have to hold a few matches to the R55s I have them equipped with to prevent a flame ball and I heard you can run Kero through an R55, so I figure it will remove the need to run through a few matches and allow me to run Kero @@king.coleman

Something else may be wrong if it's really fire-balling while running on naphtha. Like any instant-lighting lantern, it should flare a bit initially, but it shouldn't fireball. The R55 was designed to burn both gasoline and kerosene, but you also have to factor in the design of the fuel pickup and the volume of air flow through the burner. You can burn gas in a kerosene lantern, but it won't be as bright, because the fuel and air ratio for gas is different than kerosene, but it works. The same isn't usually the case the other way around. Trying to burn kero in a gas lantern usually just makes a sooty mess. I'd be surprised if braided fibreglass could hold enough alcohol to preheat for kerosene. I also suspect that you'd have a lot of alcohol running out the bottom. At least on the PW lantern, there's a cup to hold it, even it's open on the inside.@@LordNelsonsTrousers

I keep forgetting how asbestos was quite literally in everything then
