by 'work within a key' you mean, limit self to a specific scale at a time? So I have to know how to play the scale or sing it, and then use that to recognize the scale degree played?

Hi Kan, thanks for your comment. "by 'work within a key' you mean, limit self to a specific scale at a time?" this is a part of what you have to do in practice, a more important part is to actually make sure that you are always perceiving the tonality in your mind; Indeed, initially, your mind will tend to "lose the key". This happens to every student who is at a beginner level. There is a gradual process in getting there and it's quite difficult to explain it in-depth in a youtube comment, but everything is clearly laid out in our course (including the exercises, etc.). "So I have to know how to play the scale or sing it, and then use that to recognize the scale degree played?" let me clarify: "Knowing how to play the scale" is irrelevant ear training-wise whereas "being able to sing the scale" is a great thing, cause it's a sign that your mind is imagining the tonality correctly, and also it's a necessary skill that's essential in developing more advanced skills like recognizing notes, chords, improvising, etc. A lot of our students start that are not able to sing the scale, if you are experiencing a similar issue we have an entire series of gradual exercises in our course, that will guide you in effectively developing that skill.

Ok. My previous comment is quite stupid. Sorry. Although interval training can be considered tonal (first note the tonic, guess the second) it still sucks. The tonic changes in every question. It does not help us to develop TONIC RETENTION. A skill very important skill for recognizing melodies, as you explained in on of you videos. Thank you for enlightening us!

Hi guys, i have had my eye on your videos for months now, have wstched many of them. I haven't bought the program yet because im not sure if its for me. I am holding myself back for these reasons.. I find the videos quite heady, allot of talking amd explaining. I kind of loose my focus after 20 minutes of so much talking akd explaining. I understand that the practice will be allot of practical exercises, is this the case? I just dont want to buy a prgram i just can't follow because i can't stay attentive for so long. The other thing that holds me back is that i do not plsy an instrument (a few guitar chords played badly) But i am a singer and have recently become a singing group leader / choir leader. I struggle as my musicality isnt at the level it could be for the role im in. How can the program help me with my specific circumstance.

Hey there, Thanks so much for your comment, and for the time you've already invested in our videos! Your concerns are absolutely valid and I appreciate you sharing them here. Firstly, I can assure you that our program is loaded with practical exercises. We totally understand that listening to long explanations can be demanding, and that's why our course materials are carefully crafted. Every word in our video course is thoughtfully scripted to avoid unnecessary repetition and to help you focus better. Moreover, you'll have lifetime access to the course content, allowing you to revisit concepts whenever you need to, and to progress at your own pace. You can check out this link to another YT video kzread.info/dash/bejne/ZWytvLmFmcW5j5M.html to hear from our students who have seen significant improvements in their intonation skills, a key aspect for singers. If you haven’t yet, I also suggest you check out this youtube video where I talk about ‘how to develop intonation’ kzread.info/dash/bejne/lqt6sKqelZO5o8o.html Secondly, you mentioned you're a choir leader - that's fantastic! Our course could be a real game-changer for you. Even if you're not proficient with an instrument, the course emphasizes mental skills crucial for musicianship. The exercises are designed to improve your ability to vividly 'hear' music in your mind, anticipate musical patterns, identify pitch relationships and intuitively feel whether you are singing/playing on pitch or not (so you can easily correct yourself) - skills that can greatly enhance your vocal precision and leadership in a choir setting. Even for those who are not instrumentally inclined, the course has proven to be incredibly beneficial. It's all about training your ears and your musical mind, and you'd be surprised how far these skills can take you! Lastly, the nature of the KZread platform does mean the content is a bit less refined than in our courses, as these videos are generally not scripted, just me sharing my thoughts and experiences. Rest assured, the course content is much more concise, organized, and targeted to help you get the most out of it. We would love to have you join us and embark on this musical journey. Feel free to reach out with any more queries or concerns you might have! Best, Leonardo😉

Interval training can be taken like this: If this is the tonic: laaa, then name the degree of this note: laaaaaa! Is it not tonal? Or the frequent changing of the context is the problem? Thank you :)

  • @UseYourEar

Frequent changes of the context (and also not establishing a context properly) are the main issues there. Really, the problem is that it's the whole idea at the core of interval training is seriously misleading and wrong.
