Ainias Smith was one of "my guys" from this draft class. I learned more than I expected to from your analysis on the pick. Fantastic coverage this video all around. You guys really nailed this draft.

A Smith is 2nd ALL TIME leading receiver at an SEC team (Texas A&M) behind Mike Evans!

I like Trotter, BUT I think he could overcome his lesser speed if they fix/develop his consistency to SINK & FINISH his backpedals & cross-over or kick-slides when going latterly by taking that “extra step” (vs the half-or fake-step) before breaking, which will enable him to load/launch better & force him to play the ball carrier/receiver & then play the ball akin to DBs getting on the right line & then playing the ball vs ball first & losing the receiver. It’s also what I saw in the Eagles’ rookie practices shown w/ DeJean who similarly doesn’t always finish the backpedal before flipping hips and/or breaking on the ball, which causes his hips to rise and/or become stiff. And it’s also akin to Hunt’s fake/false step back to delay his launch forward to beat the OTs off ball, which similarly will require him to get more weight over balls of front foot & sink before launching like a launch for one’s 40-time.

Agreed! I think his ability to develop playing the pass/in space will be crucial for his long term development.

#AiniasSmith will be the #Eagles’ version of #WesWelker / #DannyAmendola. His numbers, size, style, & abilities are, all, highly similar to both Wes & Danny while I was at TTU during my BBA & MBA. He’s a (open) Zone finder akin to Travis Kelce & Deebo, & even Edelman. He’ll be WR3 by mid-season.

That would be an incredible outcome - to be fair to Welker, he did have 2 seasons over 85 catches and 1000 yards and 7 TDs. Smith never eclipsed 800 yards, 55 catches or 6 TDs in his career

@@EaglesXsandOs agreed, BUT he also played on a team that was 💯 opposite of what Wes & Danny played in. I was in Lubbock from 96-03 for BBA & MBA, so gotta remember that Leach ran 325+ OL & 3 YARD (not even 3 feet) splits, & then the ball ALL the time. Granted we had some good RBs that also had great numbers both running & receiving, but that was ALL predicated on the passing game setting up run late as our offense was also our defense. So it’s not the balanced, or even PA-based, offenses that were run in College Station. A lot of Wes’, & to a lesser degree Danny’s targets were w/in 2-3 yds of line of scrimmage, whereas, if you eliminate those from Ainias’ games, there’s really no sig effect on his overall production; he’d have a few each game, but that wasn’t his bread & butter. 🥯🧈 And that’s def NOT to say Wes needed those to be successful; we were decently close @ Tech but that’s what Leach wanted him for. It’s why he fell in draft even though his production outside returner, esp PR, was seen as a HUGE value. Ppl thought that’s all he & Leach WRs were until he excelled in NE. Then they knew Danny, who I think I met once, was similarly the real deal. But if you go back & watch Wes @ TTU & Ainias now, then you’ll see A LOT of similarities; similarly, he & Edelman (esp later in Edelman’s career) where he, too, tended to “round” his routes more but did so given his internal clock told him when he needed to be somewhere, & it was just his job to find the empty spot in zone(s) & time the two accordingly.

A couple good camp battles I’m looking forward to is WR3 and C/RG. I know people think Jurgens is going to be handed the center job, but I would honestly have the center and guard position up for grabs between cam Jurgens, Matt Hennessey, Tyler Steen, the Michigan rook, and the late rookie we just grabbed who’s dubbed Kelce Junior. There’s two spots and 5 guys. WR 3 is between Smith and Parris Campbell in my opinion. They could look to move Barkley into the slot in some plays though.

I'm all for the competition, but I do think Jurgens is the front runner for center. I think WR3 is going to be a rotation. They move Smitty and AJ around enough that sometimes the 3rd WR needs to be able to play outside, sometimes inside. I think they keep 6 on the team this year: winner between Ainias/Campbell in the slot and Johnny Wilson/whoever else they bring in to compete outside (after the DeVante Parker retirement). Could be someone like '23 UDFA Joseph Ngata.
