    We went a little long discussing the draft and ended up recording for close to 2 hours. Stay tuned for part 2 as we finish up talking about the draft class.

    Only thing I’ll say about jalyx, I’ve never heard of a person growing a foot & 40 natural lbs after 20 years old. It never happens… so definitely an outlier in more ways than one. I personally wanted Payton Wilson. But there are reasons to believe the outlier is reasonable. Burton wasn’t ever on their board.

    I still think we should've got Wilson, but I hope Hunt turns into a real player for us.

    I was VERY skeptical of the Hunt pick initially. 3rd round, Small school, "raw", athletic... the Davion Taylor bust flavored energy was STRONG. Then I heard his draft call. He told coach I need the playbook ASAP He's got a dog inside of him that could be CRAZY good given his frame & positional experience. It also tells me, Reddick really wasn't trying to drop into coverage. Fangio wants an edge who WANTS to do both. Long shot, sure, but the ceiling is sky high. Also, Sweaty will likely be on another team next season. Lastly, if he becomes Derrick Barnett without the penalties, that's still a win for a 3rd round pick at that position.

    Our WR 3 is on the squad already... the reason we could afford Saquon is that we didn't pay for WR3. Those assets went to Saquon

  • @uncletom356

    Jalyx getting pushed by Fangio is a huge deal. I don't even think they necessarily reached. They traded back as far as they could. Bagged a couple extra fourths, which in turn, became a '25 third and fourth. But those deals didn't materialize until Day 3. If they took him at pick-104, would it have affected your grade? A difference of 10 picks seems to be negligible, especially at that point in the draft. I thought the talent drop-off from the 40s was massive. If Payton was your man, it's understandable. But he's missing an ACL. People see him as a "one contract" player. It's not as if Hunt is 23 coming out of Alabama, where he produced nothing for four years. He's never had a chance, never had real coaches, and only recently came into his body. Ideally, he'd be DeJean/Ringo aged; however, I don't see a two year age gap as a reason to avoid 'em. Q is two years older than Arnold, and was preferable in Round 1. They're not looking to have Hunt become a foundational piece. If he can get you 4-6 sacks per year (+ double digit hurries) by the time he's 25/26, ya still got half a decade of "prime" in you. And if it never materializes, the front office turned the trade-backs into a late Day 2 and early Day 3 pick, respectively. Granted, you both said "C" and not "F," or whatever. He should be credited 10 picks for attending Cornell and having such a cool first name! I'd have been stoked for them to have taken another Wilson: Roman. But even he is the same age as Hunt. Lest we forget, too, our DL coach is a former DC. This defensive staff is highly thought of. If he's another Davion Taylor, that'd suck. Those tools he posses, though! Unless you're picking in the top-10 yearly, impossible to find. Isaac was considered a steal -- going one pick before Hunt -- and his athletic tools are not nearly as juicy as Hunt's. No chance is Isaac able to drop in coverage, either. JMHO. Great pod.

    The consensus had Jalix projected in the 5th round. A C grade is fair. Don’t expect him to be in the rotation this year. Maybe he’ll be a special teams player this year. He’s a long term project who they think can eventually be special with the right grooming. They are not expecting him to be a rotational 5 to 6 sack player right away.

    @@MikeW_is_entertained_thanks What consensus are you using? If it's literally an amalgam of every single writer's mock, okay. But there are only a handful of outlets with enough resources to properly gauge a prospective prospects' value. In no particular order, I'd name: Daniel Jeremiah (the most respected within NFL FO's I'd imagine) had him in his top-75; PFF did too, I believe. As did ESPN. Zierlein had him as. a fourth. NFLDraftScout did too. Brugler, as well. And I believe "Pro Football Scouting," or whatever that website's name is, had him in their top-90. If it was a reach, it certainly was not one of consequence. Other large funded outlets had him 15-25 slotted earlier than where the Birds got him. Not to mention, they traded for a future third and fourth by correctly trading back for Jalyx. If you target a player, as a front office, you need conviction. With Hunt's tools and traits, I don't blame them one bit for how they handled it. At first, it struck me as odd. Then, I did some research. Oh, and this EDGE class had next to no depth. Even the top-end guys had a ton of issues. If Chop was taken in the first-round, I don't have a major issue taking Jalyx 10 spots from the fourth. If he turns into a better-Baun, which is absolutely possible, I don't get the consternation. But that's why everyone can have their own opinions. I'm not even suggesting I'd have made the same move. Just, the process was sound, imo. We'll have to revisit in 2-3 years. If I "lose," I'll buy you a coke. If you "lose," you get me an authentic, signed Hunt jersey. Very fair bet! 😏 TLDR: Your issues are valid, but I just think it's a bit overblown for a 94th overall pick when they clearly got two first-round prospects from one draft -- after (technically) being a playoff team. That's all. Take care.

    I believe in the pick. I think he can be a high end edge who can also drop back in Fangio defense. So no coke bet. I think the only disagreement is with the C grade. I think it’s fair for drafting a developmental player in the 3rd

    I don’t necessarily disagree with this but if this is the case, Bradberry would need to begin the year having earned a starting toll & eventually hand off the job to Q. No way they can keep him on the roster as a backup if they think his skills are diminished. There are too many other options in that room.

    I think they would’ve taken Fuaga had he fallen. But the way the draft fell, OL wasn’t a value. And I don’t get the sense that they really like Steen. Sounds like Stout wants to try Becton there & then Keegan is probably also in contention.

  • @PhillyFilmRoom

    @PhillyFilmRoom

    I feel like if they didn't like Steen they would've made more of an effort either thru free agency or the draft to upgrade that position. They were content to just keep moving back in the draft when they had the opportunity to pick a guard. We'll see though.

    I mean, he played 198 snaps, that's not much. And he was in a rotation with Ricks in the back half of the season, although maybe that was just the coaching staff being incompetent. But with Mitchell being a 1st round pick, he's going to have every opportunity to lose the job.
