Finally someone else said it… why don’t the birds DL ever get their hands up?! Call me crazy… but I expect Gabe Hall to make this team. Word around the campfire is eagles are high on Ojomo as the 4th DT

Trying too hard to make the sack IMO. You don't want all your D-Line to get 5 yards up the field, especially against QBs with great pocket presence. I think Campbell would be a great addition in that sense, as he knows how to impact the game despite being 38.

Great work guys. I agree on lack of DL rush after Carter, thats why I was for drafting Newton. Hopefully JD or Milton steps up this year.

This position is a real worry for me we lost so many snaps when fletch left and didnt bring in anyone. I think the lack of discipline last year came from a lack of faith in the rest of the team to succeed. Everyone seemed to think they needed to personally make a play every snap or simply watch the other team walk all over them. I would love to see BG get most of the interior 3rd down reps. There seems to be a little more depth on edge and I think you don't need the same explosiveness inside as BG gets older. Who do you think benefits most from the stunts and line movement? great pod as always amazing analyses and production value looking forward to more content.

Great comment! We think Carter will benefit tremendously from the pick stunts, given that he's so quick when he has space to create interior pressure. Hopefully Huff will earn Carter a few less double teams as well. Greatly appreciate your support

In addition to Eric's comment, I think Milton will benefit a lot from the stunts and line movement. His quickness would really excel in that role. Sieler was an underrated member of that line last year when it came to running stunts. He not only set up Wilkins to get him a lot of easy looks, he set up Chubb a lot as well. Plus, he benefited as well when the OL didn't switch.

Love these podcasts guys & I look forward to them ur 2 of the most knowledgeable guys out there. Go Birds! Now as far as the 2nd/3rd pass rush option on the dline Brandon Graham can fill some of that roll even at his current age also Sweat can also play on the interior as well. U can kick him inside n bring in Nolan with Huff outside.

I like the unblocked pressure stat. Did Dolphins opponents not catch on the pick-stunt tactic as the season went along?

It's a surprisingly difficult skill for an offensive lineman to learn. Last year Cardinals rookie RT Parris Johnson played with his left hand floating in the B gap all year (literally taking on edge rushers one handed) so he didn't have to watch for stunts.

Some teams were definitely better at communicating and switching, but I think a big part of it was that Wilkins and Sieler's chemistry. I can't say with certainty, but I strongly believe they were given the freedom to call their own stunts and they were able to listen to line calls and run them when they knew that they would be sliding to Wilkins side. On top of that the Dolphins also did some other things to pair with that stunt to help keep offenses guessing, but I'll have a more in depth video about that soon.

No love for big Marlon Tuipulotu? All that guy does is put out quality snaps; not the best pass rusher, but I've seen effort sacks from him. That being said, I never considered Calais Campbell. That would be a GREAT move. Also had a first round grade on Johnny Newton. I think he might have actually been a better second round pick than DeJean, but DeJean was probably BPA

I wouldn't be surprised if Tui gets a fair share of the snaps, especially early, although I don't know if he's the answer as a pass rusher. On film, most of his wins are those effort, clean up pressures as opposed to winning with a move, power, etc. And his metrics back that up as they are the worst in the league unfortunately.

Because the Eagles played so many defensive snaps last year, would that mean the percentages of snaps played last year could be a little undermined? For instance, playing 55% of snaps last year would be more like playing 70% of snaps on a reasonable year because of how many defensive snaps they played?

  • @EaglesXsandOs

    @EaglesXsandOs

We talked about raw snap counts too. The Dolphins IDL played nearly 900 snaps compared to 500 for Carter, so he will certainly have a much larger workload.

In addition to what Eric said, the difference between the defense first in snaps and last in snaps was 137 snaps, or roughly 8 snaps a game, so it's not that big of a difference. Eagles were 4th highest in defensive snaps last season.

Bro acts like he doesn’t know Jordan Davis looks nothing like he did last year. Harder for those big guys with conditioning???? You might want to act like you know who you’re talking about??? Bad teams first half of the season? Bro we beat Chiefs Bills Cowboys? Beat all 3 in the first half of last season. Seriously where’d they find this guy at?? Why can’t I get paid to talk sports maaaaan. Half these people I swear 🤷🏻‍♂️ or even worse the people hiring them are so clueless they don’t even know better. 🤔 sounds good buddy 👍 your hired 🤦🏻‍♂️

Well, we recorded this video (and the previous 3) on Thursday. The Jordan Davis weight loss story didn't come out until Saturday. Which, doesn't that validate the point we were making about him being bigger and conditioning? Conditioning was a concern for JD coming out of college, seems body recomp has been a focus for him this offseason. And yes, bigger players tend to tire out quicker. Among interior DL, not a single player above 330lbs was in the top 20 in snaps. Dexter Lawrence was closest at 22. And what does us beating the Chiefs, Bills and Cowboys have to do with their individual performances? There was a notable decline in production against those top teams. Against the Cowboys, Chiefs, Bills and 49ers, Jalen Carter's Pressure Rate was 7.3%, Pass Rush Win Rate was 13.4% and he had a half sack. All other games: Pressure Rate was 15.6%, Pass Rush Win Rate 18.6%, and he had 5.5 sacks. You can't get paid to talk sports because you didn't put any effort into doing so. If you're as knowledgeable as you think you are then you could probably do it too. It's free to put content up, people willingly choose to listen or not.

People were crying that we didn't over pay Hargrave last year. 21+ million was too much because he was a complete liability against the run. Reddick was also a liability vs the run. Fletch was NOT a run defense liability. And none of these guys are here now. I like Davis & Carter. But the conditioning is a problem until we see otherwise. Kicking BG inside is not a solution. Howie has to bring in at least one veteran for depth, and we're still counting on a Nolan Smith or Huff to step up on the edges. Asking for a lot contrary to popular belief. Fangio has his work cut out for him.

  • @PhillyFilmRoom

Yeah definitely agree that this position group (along with edge) takes some projecting and there's some real questions that need to get answered. They need a couple guys to step up. As far as BG playing inside, I think it's a very situational, 3rd down pass rusher role, and overall I think they'll get creative on 3rd downs anyway. Definitely won't be surprised if they add someone to the group.
