Loving WRC so far. The graphics, handling and sound are great, and the long, detailed and challenging stages are long overdue! They remind me of the Rally Championship games of the 90s with their mega long stages, but with 90s tunnel graphics. The immersion in WRC is better than anything I've driven before. I notice the difference between RHD and LHD cars greatly, and I've increased the FOV to 70 to get some peripheral view which is much more important for road positioning than in games past. Has anyone else noticed this? Performance has been great for me even though I have a way-under specced PC. (AMD FX-9370, 16GB RAM, AMD R9 390X HDD install) I'm only on Low detail and medium AA quality, but it still looks good, plenty of detail and steady 60FPS at 2560x1440 with v-sync. I'm getting an odd stutter but less often the more the game runs, so it's likely a content caching issue. I'll be playing this a lot more, it's rewarding in a way the previous games in the franchise just weren't.

So the game is known as a terrible dud. I'm curious, do you have low standards? Are you a shill? is it just such a niche and unexplored genre that terrible games can sneak by on just being vaguely playable? I like how because it's EA sports we assume it has a budget and triple A sheen, when all that really means is that there's alot of people who have to get paid before the developer budget kicks in, and they are probably overworked to make sure they can fill out the checkboxes the EA board thinks( knows I guess, in your case) will sell a game

Been saying for a while it wouldn’t take much for be to be happy with EA WRC. All new stages, and physics not any worse than DR2. Seems like EA has delivered here. I’m not much of a career mode player but that’s a nice bonus too. And the ability to do a single rally against AI, something KT Studios amazingly never added to the old WRC games.😂

Noone can even play any wrc game or shouldn't try unless ublike being mad and do u guys not realize this is a big diff than 2.0 u don't float u don't have the pivot point in the rear so it feels like u can drift when this game u can drive like a real car no complaints here!!!!!

Appreciate them including a driving school… something I always wondered why wasn’t more apart of these games besides grand turismo 8:15 that’s got to be the highest recommended specs I’ve seen on a PC game

MOZA R9 FFB works if you turn the wheel base off and back on again when driving. I did it on one of the basic lessons. It’s just like Grid Legends in that respect. I haven’t tried doing it in any of the menus.

Great review. I have utilized some of the system optimizations found on Panjno’s KZread channel and they have helped my frames drops a lot.

Just wanted to leave my thoughts here for anyone thinking of buying it. Im on Series X and my only issue with the game is the stuttering what can occur a few times in certain stages, you kinda get used to it after a while but im assuming it'll be fixed soon! The game itself is honestly great in my eyes, the career feels quite unique with the certain events you can choose and the driving itself feels very responsive and im on controller! No regrets on my behalf just hoping the stuttering can be fixed as thats my only negative. Ive got around 8 hours in the game already in a day or two so i can assure you you'll have a blast if you love rally games (i would say its more forgiving/easier than other rally titles) for me thats a positive but i guess thats up to you to decide! 😄

Had anyone had issues with the DD1 not working? It registers the buttons but they don't actually do anything. My pedals work but it won't change gear at all

For anyone using chase view camera angle I am not sure if you noticed the car will stay clean thru the entire stage, not sure if this is a bug they gonna fix.

Agreed on adding rally cross👍 Thats the only reason I would by it.

Waiting to get to home and go at it tonight. Been a long time since I bought a new game.

What I find cool is the price. I was expecting to have to pay twice as much.

I tried it today, it's a good game but it needs some patches to improve the performance. My 2070 super is struggling at 1080p medium with dlss on quality. But I'll wait and hope for some improvements. The graphics are not a step forward so I can't really justify the weight of the game on my system. The physics and ffb are good, fingers crossed for the future. Acc for example is now perfectly playable at 4k dlls balanced with medium/high settings, hope they will reach that level.

Great review, thanks. Unfortunately i need to focus on performance, can you share few more details abou that? I got a 6800XT as well and I struggle to stay above 60 fps in some conditions. Running mostly medium settings and FSR on balanced. I have a big resolution though playing on a G9. Can you share a bit more about your experience and specs? Staying above 60 is playable though thanks to Freesync. What i can't get rid off is this graininess and you are the first to see that mentions it. Especially on road surface, really annoying

I think the stuttering issue console players are mentioning might be an Unreal Engine issue. I only say that because ACC on PS5 does the same thing and is also made on Unreal Engine. Not 100% sure if that is the issue, but it's a theory.

I spoke to someone in the industry, and it seems that the graphics issues we’re seeing are a quite common, but fixable issue. Hopefully EA has a team diagnosing and fixing the issue as we speak.

NO VR NO BUY!!!... just kidding Mike, and I put that in just to stir ya. But is it interesting that maybe why it is missing initially - is the poor standard graphics optimisations on initial release. Maybe they know already that they have to focus on better optimisations BEFORE they hit it with an even harder graphical requirement that VR will automatically bring???

The sense of speed that is top notch here, love the vast selection of tracks and cars. Graphics and physics are great.

EA WRC = WRC generations 2.0 We have been lied for many creators saying this was an evolution of DR 2.0 Game can be fun, for me as fun as WRC generations but with good graphics. Nothing like the fun of DR 2.0, even with all his flaws.

I'm hearing that there are no random events in the game, is this true?

Well i started up the game and firstly i have confusion on which button on my sparco wheel you press to navigate the menus ? i calibrated wheel ok but where and how do you change the degree of the steering like 540 to 360 etc ? i cant see how you can choose any car and any stage and do a simple time trial ? ive only managed to do half a shake down as the force feed back was too strong so i went into change it to make it weaker and soon as i resumed game my wheel just went hay wire ?? so i had to quickly turn it all off and from what ive seen of the graphics well i thought they were meant to be 4k ? well i can tell you wrc generations graphics are far better from what ive seen so far ea wrc graphics look pretty washed out as they did in dirt rally 2.0 ? so at the moment im very disappointed but its early days and im going to have to work my way through it and hope fully get it running half decent ?

I’m having trouble with the wheel calibration process. I can’t tell if I’m doing it right and my wheel doesn’t match the position of the wheel on screen in the cockpit view. Thrustmaster T300 on PS5

@@blairwalton4456 Yeah, I believe it worked for most. Unfortunately for those who pre-ordered through a third party (or at least some third parties) the preload wouldn't work and EA acknowledge this. I'll be loading it up in ~1hr :)

VR......I'll buy then

CPU’s are bottlenecking on this, so needs a new-ish and high spec CPU. My i7-8700k is stopping my 1080ti from going beyond 60-70FPS on Ultra Low settings

It plays ok on the series x, but I am having issues with my wheel base. Mainly my E-brake. It is registering as a button push, so all or nothing. Which wasn’t an issue on DR titles, or previous WRC titles. Also the calibration system isn’t quite right. I also noticed that there’s less options. I think patches may help this. And my wheels firmware is up to date. I think this game will just take time to perfect. It’s a new title. And with patches it should get better

can't wait to see if the turning point of the car is in the middie of the car like in DR2.0. also in DR2.0 you feel that there is a big ball under the car and you turn over it .

@@handuke well after a little test, i take the rwd albarth and i can say on a left turn full trottle , wheel full left ,the car turn on his front left tire. It was on the middle of the car in DR2.0. so I think its good and different now. Donut will be easy. No FFB on moza (for now)

I'll just wait with buying it until they add tripple support and more importantly telemetry data output 😑

Played about 12 hours, it's good just lower the sensitivity from 50 to 20. You'll keep oversteering on tarmac overwise.

Graphics, physics, car damage, sim car festures, wiper/headlight control, weather, scenery danage, car dirt, realism, soumd...are far better on Dirt 2.0.

Main red flag for me is no VR on release and that its Unreal Engine means its likely to be very poor performance there. Will wait for the VR patch and subsequent reviews before purchase. Otherwise looks a lot of fun. Slightly dubious about purchasing EA or even Codemasters at this point but if the game is as good as it looks then it could be worth it.

Performance is a mess... And it's not actually UE5, it's UE4. Graphics are really weird, low quality shadows, a weird yellow and overexposed tint in many daylight tracks... FSR 2.1 looks very pixelated and flickery everywhere... But it drives good, so I just hope they improve upon those areas.

Im a Sim Racer and this i not what i call a simulator..

My display is 4k so I probably have zero chance of running this at a respectable frame rate with decent graphics options.

This game is using Unreal Engine 4 not 5.

Its a game for ps5 but it looks like a game for ps3.

My take so far after playing: FFB and physical experience - can’t tell as that takes time to adjust, acclimate, and I prefer to defer until my motion and wind systems are supported; gameplay - time will tell. Sound - excellent. Visuals - unbearably boring and monochrome - every country I have tried looks mostly the same - the same dull, high-noon dusty look and color, track surface has no texture -> maybe it is because I was running time trials? Stage design - and detail - no where near as good as WRCG. Handbrake - need more time as I am still not used to it but it feels a bit like an on/off switch; camera view adjustments - as with DR 2, it is very limited.

I would suggest you stop playing time trial then, as every single stage will be set to Summer, Day time, and perfect road surface conditions to make it fair on the leaderboards. Of course everything will feel the same. Try career mode or simply making a custom championship, that’s where the real immersion is

The Dirt cloud from behind the cars always looks so fake. Like they just keep using the same 1990's graphics system for dirt cloud behind the cars that is 40 feet long blocky and never changes and never hangs longer in settling back to the ground or wind drifting away but sinks into the ground as fast as the car moves away from it in a preset distance. The Graphics can look real all day long till you see the fake looking effect of dirt dust and snow clouds then your back to 1990s looking game effects. Not a Fan do a better job. Add all the Icing on the cake you can if rain dirt and snow effects are unreal looking or not enuff when it should be there in the game then none of the other stuff matters.

too bad the cars still pivots from the center and not from the wheels.

Huge frame drops & screen tearing on ps5. Needs a performance patch ASAP as it’s spoiling an otherwise fantastic game.

I'm running a 4080 and am getting less than 100 fps at times. It gets 300 in iRacing and well over 200 in ACC. Makes no sense

I’ve been playing for about 2.5 hours on series x and my feelings are basically…the physics feel good and the audio sounds great, but the graphics are just boring and honestly worse then wrc10 (I skipped generations) performance has been fine, just a few stutters per stage Edit-One thing I wish we could see in a future update is more dust/snow/water on the windshield…water and snow looks terrible and there is minimal dust or dirt build up

for graphics, I advise turning off any upscaling and setting anti-aliasing to "Low" It makes everything look a lot sharper. Their AA in this game is a blurry mess

skipping wrc generations ? you really need to get it !! its far better and way more realistic than dirt rally 2.0 im having a blast with it if you do get it just remember to go into throttle sensitivity and change it to 4 or else you wont have a progressive throttle from what ive seen and played on this new ea wrc game wrc generations beats that too in graphics and specially the handling /car physics you just need to set up your force feedback and the cars properly i highly recommend wrc generations !!

The pop-in and stutter are totally ridiculous.

Will be next year’s game before the technical problems and features emissions are sorted out.

My short review on PS5. Graphics - 7/10, outdated and blurry, i dont understand why. Sounds - 9/10, very good and enjoyable engine sounds, handling - 8,5/10, too forgiving handling modell, but very well drivable cars. RBR is etalon for me. Tracks - 10, amazing track selection. Cars - 10, best car selection in rally titles ever. Stuttering on PS5, new hdmi cable solved the problem in 95%. They will fix this im sure. Issue with Fanetec wheel - no moving cars in start line - cluch problem. Loving so far! ❤

Hopefully we get it in the first three months of 2024! It took six months for vr to be added in DR2.0, but I’m confident it will be quicker for this game.

I was really looking forward to this game. But all the positives are just fluff. No VR, no triple screen and no UDP output!!! In other words NO THANK YOU. A giant disappointment, well done EA/Codemasters for ruining another driving series!

This is... a really weird take. At the end of the day whether to purchase or not purchase a game, or anything for that matter comes down to the consumer and his or her reasons for doing so. No one, not you or anyone else has the right to tell someone they must buy something or accept a certain label you've decided should be bestowed upon them. That said, VR is a total game changer. The feeling you get being able to look around freely, to see the car and surroundings in 3D for a realism point and an immersion point are simply unmatched by any other technology, even if you have to accept a lower graphical detail to do so. I completely understand people who have experienced VR and have VR compatible racing games passing on this one because it doesn't yet. It's not elitist, it's not slobbery, it's preference and our freedom to decide which content we consume for any reason we wish is paramount to a free market and our freedoms as individuals. Edit ti add: I am 38 by the way.

Pay to Win is rampant, Devs are chopping up games and selling them piece by piece at stupid prices. Post launch support is hit or miss, apparently we don't "own" anything anymore, most gaming companies (and EA is directly at the head of the pack) are only concerned about profits and will screw you, the player base and the IP completely to hell if it means another few dollars on the spreadsheet at the end of the month. And all of that is not mentioning the predatory gambling mechanics that are thrust into nearly every game these days. Gamers have a right to be upset, honestly 90% of the games that come out from so called AAA companies we should boycott and never buy or play anyway. Though this one looks pretty decent and I personally plan to check it out though EA is at the top of my "be very wary" list. All of that is beside the point, which is that the game delivers what you want and you are happy with it and that's great. Good on you and I hope you enjoy it. For others that is not the case and it is not right for you to try to impose your feelings of what a good product is on someone else and call them names and disparage them if they disagree. People have their own minds. Hell in this world that's all we really have that's truly ours and even that is being encroached upon by tech. @rtimmins7212 0 seconds ago I bought it and have played for 100 min. I run A high end rig with D Box. I have been flipping back and forth from WRC and DR 2 to compare feel. I still prefer DR2, WRC seems too forgiving and the cars have no weight. The game has trouble connecting my Aiologs Seq Shifter. On my 2070 the graphics kinda suck and no triple support right now. I have a feeling I will be refunding. I will run out the 3 hours with steam, maybe I will try again after triple screen support. Need to mess around with it a bit more as well regarding FB, transducer and motion

After initial testing (on 5 hour trial), I'm a little underwhelmed. G29 feedback is adequate out the box but I can't feel much detail, and graphics stutters/framerate are an issue (I'm on a mid-range PC). I do hope the good previews haven't been predicated on top rigs and DD wheels. There's definitely a nice game in there, and it's only early preview, so I remain optimistic :)

If anyone else needs help with G29/920 feedback, I found Rally Technical's video 'Fanatec & Logitech FFB Settings | EA Sports WRC' really useful to get going with a good feeling :) (now graphics as an AMD user in particular are another thing, but it definitely drives nicely! :p )

Dirt Rally 2.0 looks and plays better! Which is actually a shame. The rain is superior, the track detail, weather effects and skylines of Dirt Rally 2.0 all put EA’s latest effort to shame. The stages in 2023 are long but barren and quite boring. The tracks in 2.0 and even Generations were way more interesting and fun than these (a.i. generated?!) tracks. The sad state of gaming in 23: new games are “sold” to us as gold but are turds compared to previous incarnations (even on lesser hardware)!

I have no idea how you're able to play EA WRC with that horrendous FOV.

I'm disappointed with the graphics to be honest, in some stages the distant landscape looks like an impressionist painting with cartoon trees at high settings or greater. Took me an hour and a half to land on combinations of settings or it to be playable, had to drop down to 84fps. I have a 3090 and i9-13900K and it struggles. Handling is good though and lots of content. So ups and down. Certainly not the increase in visual quality I was reasonably expecting from similar rally games in recent yearss.

Iv kind of had enough of Dirt rally 2.0 after i got to 131st in the world and posted a vid to show i didn't cut corners, I'm still 40+ seconds from the top times. why didn't code master fix the huge corners that can be cut. Its still early days for this game but i imagen by the time i get it a lot of people will be able to find a way to exploit it. But this review has mad me hopeful.

Really nice review... I totally agree... this game is a masterpiece or would be one if it ran well but it runs like shit... I have an RX 6900XT OC Nitro+ and this game still dips under 60FPS constantly on 1440p Ultra and stutters even on high sometimes... performance is really REALLY bad... I don't know what to do with it anymore... but a last gen flagship GPU being unable to be steady at 1440p Ultra is a joke... I run extremely demanding games on 1440p Ultra easily and most of the time over 100FPS... I run fucking ACC on 1440p Ultra ffs... EA F1 23 on 1440p Ultra without raytracing runs at over 120fps... but this thing won't run to save it's life... Anyway, besides my performance whining (which if they don't fix, this game is DEAD) the game's driving physics are sublime... a lot of control, very responsive, extremely realistic tyre behavior, the stage degradation is THE BEST in any rally game ever made by a mile... so many cars to choose from, the career mode is so nice and it has all the cars implemented into it and not only the official WRC cars... everything about this game screams HIGH QUALITY... let RBR fanboys cry and scream that this is arcady trash... it's not... if they think this is arcade then they haven't seen a rally car race in their lives... Anyway... I'm both extremely happy and extremely sad at the same time with this game... please please PLEASE Codies... fix the performance... you've worked way too damn hard to make this thing to ruin it... you're disservicing yourselves...

In fairness, you did buy a GPU from AMD. Great on paper, not so much if you want practical results. UE5 does suck though.

@@Squant I actually fixed it and I now run 75-90fps... I turned OFF the upscaler... actually FSR and Temporal upscaler make the game run worse and not better... must be some bug but I have more FPS in native 1440p without upscale... Told you it's not an AMD issue... they need to fix a lot of crap in performance... I think it's all due to Unreal Engine 4 that they're using...

The ps5 version is a mess. Stutter, framedrops etc. No dualsense support. A rushed game with the wrong engine. The only positive is the wheel support. The game comes alive with a steeringwheel. But during the race I have to close my eyes, otherwise they will bleeding out.

Great but a thorough review would include consoles and controllers.

Road has same texture all the way in some stages, missing time and weather setting in time trial mode and no mutiplayer split screen mode

Unfortunately this is shaping up to be a dog in VR for all except perhaps those with the gruntiest of systems.

This is not a next-gen title. It uses last-gen 8 year old unreal 4 engine.

Played for 10 mins on ps5 unfortunately this isn't dirt 3.0 but some lifeless ea trash and already deleted

After watching and playing smooth Forza Motorsport for weeks, this looks slow and ancient

Right now this is unplayable game for me...Stutterings and framedrops are horrible (same on med, high or max settings so i bet this is more of shitty ea DRM fault or really bad optimisation). Graphics is not great with ugly yellow/brown filter. WRC Generations and Dirt Rally 1,2 are looking much better and the sad part is that stages are lifeless :( No random events....no animals crossing,no crashed cars, no spectators or stuards are moving on road....this is shame because old VRally 2 from 1999 have this feature ( of course WRC Rally Evolved had awesome random events). Driving physics is really fun, sounds are awesome but this is nothing next gen or big leap foward in rally games...Don't take me wrong: EA WRC is good game (7.5/10) with solid foundations for future... But now Codemasters made step or two foward in some aspects but in other things they made few steps back 😒

Only prob i have is that ur paid to say what i basically woukd have aaid BESIDES THE FACT THAT ANY WRC PRIOR,TO THIS GAME NONE OF THWN N I PLAYED FROM WRC 6 TO GEN NONE OF THWM ARE WVEN CLOSE TO A SIMCADE THEY ARE NO PHYSICS BEAIDES MAKING U FEEL RETARDED FOR SIMPLY THE FACT I BOUGHT MOORE THAN 1 2 IS CRAZY.
