In the St. Paul/Minneapolis metro area of Min. we do get out DOT to help a lot of the time. The have hiway helpers to help & reg dump trcks with crash barriors mounted on truck. STAE SAFE PLEASE. 2 years later.. lol, hey. So yeah, in Germany you clear the middle lane (or clear and create a middle lane) for emergency vehicles in jammed traffic. If you fail to do so (as of Oct 2017) you are fined 320 euro (us$380) and you are banned from driving for a month. They have had to continue to raise the penalties through the roof in light of such situations as the 18 people who died in a bus fire in Muenchenberg when rescue workers reported they were blocked in by vehicles that did not form an emergency lane, or from motorists who slowed to take pictures of people burning alive.

Hmm interesting that every department does not follow the safety requirements while on a traffic accident especially on a Busy highway.. Fire crews must no matter what when working an accident they must wear a safety vest every department members that working the accident. More people are most likely to see the safety vest then a fire fighter jacket.
