E36 Lock Adapters = Bozo Angle for Cheap! : BMW E36 325i Drift Build Ep.27

The E36 gets a Driftworks lock kit. It's one of the easiest ways to get serious angle, and you don't even have to any fabrication work. I'll be putting the kit to the test soon and will give a detailed review.

    The x-brace is one if the best cheap mods to the e36. Definitely tightens up steering feel, and as a bonus it protects the oil pan. Some subframes are already threaded for them, if not, it's easy enough to install the nutserts. What a difference they make though.

    Penetrating spray and acetylene or mapp gas is your friend when breaking loose stuck tie rods. The pipe wrench trick definitely helps. 5/8" is 16mm while 1/2" is 13mm. Another thing I noticed is your running the non-m front sway link setup. You'll notice a huge difference with the sway link pickup point attached to the strut, (m3 struts attach this way for a reason.) You can buy cnc'd tabs from akgmotorsport.com or cut some off a pair of junk m3 struts and weld them on. The sway bar has much more of a 'levering' effect this way. You can also buy off the shelf adjustable endlinks or make your own out of heim joints, jamb nuts and threaded shift rods like I did. Coleman racing sells the threaded shift rod, and pegasus racing the heim ends and jamb nuts. This will allow you to dial in your preload exactly like you want it. Great bang-for-buck mod if you ever track your car or drive it hard.

    If those 16" wheels are from an e39 like I'm guessing they are, you need hubcentric centering rings. The e39 uses a 74.1mm hub, while the e36 is a 72.56mm. The centerbore on the e39 wheels is larger. Without the rings you'll get a vibration and put unwanted stress on the lug bolts. The hub is designed to take the weight of the car and NOT the lugs. Hope that solves your vibration issue. EDIT: just watched the end of the video. You just mentioned what I said. My bad. I should've watched the whole thing before commenting on that part.

    I use same adapters (but 25% extra lock on M3 knuckles). It was same story with cutting tie rods (inner and outer one). I had some headaches but it's worth it - it's cheap ghetto angle kit haha. I should extend control arms but i didn't using 30mm spacers and 17x7.5 et30ish wheels instead. I found later on full lock control arm ball joint rubbing into the brake disc WTF, might be because non arms with M3 knuckles though. So I welded some bump stops to reduce slightly the max lock. Overall car is good , definitely steering response is much different. If you have a buddy who can chop the knuckles and reweld them might be better IMO

    Btw I don't know if you know the trick, but if you take a BFH and hit the side of the knuckle where the tie rod link goes through the end will pop right out without possibly mashing the nut and fucking up the threads on the link, or causing premature wear to the ball joint "socket" end of the link. That being said, this trick also works fantastic on the ball joints when it comes to removing the LCA. If you are reusing anything, this keeps the risk of unwanted slop and wear in the joints. You can also put another BFH against the knuckle and hit it with another BFH which totally keeps all the hammer marks off of the knuckle. Just a tip from over 25 years of turning wrenches on these cars.

    Nice man! Just 2 things You should have extended your lower control arms, therefore you wouldnt need to cut the tie rods, and you would have more inside clearence, it shouldn't rub anymore... Other thing, Please, use slightly smaller tyres in the front, like 215/45, or 205/45! Keep it up!

    Thanks for the complimment man!! ;) I think you should NOT pick e46 arms.. You know how to weld and have skills in craftsmanship, just extend you oem arms a little bit! ;) If u do the e46 ones you are going to have issues again because they are much wider than the e36's and the tyre WILL rub in the arm it self with that much lock you have... Trust me! ;) Hit me up on Instagram if you need some pics of "how to" do the e36 arms mod! Cheers!!

    daniel0663 yeah they are longer and will give you more camber, but they are cast wider than the stock e36 arms. where the e46 arm bents 90 degrees is a lot wider than the e36 arms. if you google a side by side comparison, the e36 ones are skinnier. its hard to explain lol

    @anasparekh30494 жыл бұрын

    @ Austin Ferguson, I had put e46 arms and e90 outer tie rods which I cut to be about a centimeter longer than the stock ones. I adjusted toe so that it was around 1/8 an inch in total toe out. When I don't initatie using the hydro or clutch kicking, so when I try and use a flick, I have understeer issues. Don't know if you've experienced the same issues I have. Not sure what to adjust, what do you think it could be. Drove my friends bmw who had put e46 arms, left the stock tie rods, and used the tierod ebay spacers you have, I drove his car and it doesn't feel quite right either...

    You may observed already or will very soon, your Akerman Angle is near zero and your car is understeering badly in close corners/turns like when doing a U turn in a parking. I also have this adapters and they are very nice for drifting but you should sacrifice with the steering when driving normaly. Also, going forward and sharing my experience with E46 control arms and excentric bushings, it will give you a lot wider track about 2inches per wheel but unfortunately it will not give you a lot more space for the wheel to get a bigger angle. Good luck!
