E36 GETS A DRIVETRAIN SWAP! CLUTCH, FLYWHEEL, ZF TRANS, AND MORE!

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Today we finally did the ZF swap. This meant a new clutch, flywheel, used ZF gearbox, and ZF driveshaft. Tanner helped out with stabbing the trans and shooting video. Big ups to him. Hang out with us as we get this car ready for some serious destruction!

  • @chelseadenofa

    @chelseadenofa

    6 жыл бұрын

    Hah. Thats a good point. I didn't even think that was a thing with these because of the center bearing. I figured both were balanced individually. Is that actually a thing?

  • @mikeyiswhatsup

    @mikeyiswhatsup

    6 жыл бұрын

    Yeah, there should be a little white hash mark on each side. Had a bunch of drive shaft issues and someone pointed it out to me that it possibly could be unbalanced, shouldn't do anything to serious, but just throwing it out there!

  • @mikeyiswhatsup

    @mikeyiswhatsup

    And yes each half is balanced individually but to make one whole balanced shafted they would need to be aligned according.

    What about balancing the drive shaft ?When I did my m50 stroker swap in my 318i I used the stock rear section for the original Dif & the shorter front section of a 325i drive shaft to mate the drive train . Because I used two different section to make one drive shaft it was all out of balance & when I would drive the car around I would get noticeable vibration & hum around 3k rpm

  • @chelseadenofa

    @chelseadenofa

    6 жыл бұрын

    This driveshaft was an OG one, its not 2 different ones. I don't get any hum, besides from the solid trans mounts.

  • @jonesz31

    Yo, could you go over how you got the semi trailing arm setup to handle decently and not obliterate all your tires in one lap? Ive got a z31 with a similar setup and cant figure out how to fix it. Even at a decent ride height, I'm blowing thru tires and the rear end handles like shit with crazy negative camber and toe in. Just curious what you did with those spacers and how it helped.

  • @chelseadenofa

    @chelseadenofa

    6 жыл бұрын

    Its all about the geometry. Try running the car at stock ride height in the rear, See if it works better. THEN if it does, space the subframe mounting points up as high as you can so that they car has the same geometry as stock, but at the ride height you want.

    so was that a duel mass flywheel that it originally had, that could have been slipping and then did you keep that or did you get a single mass to throw in there. Subaru 's were like that the last of LGT's (MY05 to MY09) had them (duel mass) and people would just switch them to single mass from a WRX. if that is a similar thing with BMW what what would the single mass flywheel come on or is it only an aftermarket option only?

  • @chelseadenofa

    @chelseadenofa

    6 жыл бұрын

    +Aaron Hakes yea totally could have been. They had single masses that were OEM. But aftermarket is way more cost effective
