I remember before I got the Wii U how fascinated I was with this game. This (and Wind Waker HD) were the main reasons of why I wanted a Wii U so badly. And now that it's come this far, it's amazing to see what Splatoon was like back in the day and to see the hype that was built around it.

I remember watching this back when the trailer first came out, I begged my dad to get me the game when it released and he decided to because Id been doing well in school. I remember playing for the first time, my first ever match was on camp triggerfish and I had so much fun just painting random things aimlessly. I love splatoon with all my heart

I got a Wii U for Christmas in 2014 because I wanted the newer console to play new games on, I mainly got it for Skylanders Trap Team and Disney Infinity 2.0 releasing that year. About 1 to 2 weeks before Splatoon came out, I saw the commercials/advertisements on TV, and I thought the game looked interesting. My mom even saw one of the commercials and said "you and your brother might like that game." So I went on KZread and saw some of the trailers for the game, including this one, and I typically don't buy into hype for new IPs, but I was able to see that Splatoon had the potential to be something really special. There was a testfire before launch so that gave me the opportunity to try out the game, and I was having a great time and I was officially on the Splatoon hype train. My mom bought the game for me from Walmart during launch week, I started to main the Krak-On Splat Roller, and the rest is history as they say. I got a Switch in October 2017, making it the fastest I ever bought a new console, and it's also the first console I spent my own money on, and I bought Splatoon 2 as part of my first lineup of games for the console. Then, on to Splatoon 3, I was skeptical about it at first tbh. I felt like they should've waited until the next console to come out before they make Splatoon 3, but as time progressed, I warmed up to the idea of Splatoon 3 happening sooner than later. Once they showed the Salmon Run footage, I was officially on the hype train, and Splatoon 3 is one of the only games I ever pre-ordered. The game came out at a perfect time, where I could use a new game to play, and it also came out right before my 20th birthday, so it's like Splatoon 3 was the finale of my transition from teenage-hood to adult-hood. I'm here right now because I'm making a playlist of nostalgic stuff from my childhood. I'll probably be back to watch this again whenever the Final Splatfest for Splatoon 3 happens, to relive the journey of what I am now considering to be the greatest game trilogy of all time.

I don’t remember much from when I started the second game. But I do clearly remember playing with a Japanese dude named snowman on the conveyer belt whatever map. That dude is still on my friends list for whatever reason. Haven’t been able to sneak into their games because of time zones but it’s nice seeing a little Afro man hologram.

And remember, Stay Fresh! Thanks for all the memories

A game nobody saw coming. A game nobody asked for. The kind of game that you never thought NIntendo would be capable of making. But in 2018 it still thrives, and proved itself a worthy adition to Nintendo's ever expanding roster of IPs.

I just started getting into Splatoon 2, and I'm in love with it! Can't wait for the third game!!! :)

Now that Splatoon 3 is coming, this makes me even more nostalgic. We even have the Inkzooka back now! I remember the days when Miiverse was still a thing and I can even faintly remember years ago of when I was just getting into my first Splatoon match. I can't even believe that 2015 was 6 years ago.

As of me writing this comment, Splatoon 1’s servers will be shutting down in just a few days. I cannot begin to describe how much this game series has impacted my life. I love this game with all my heart and it’s sad to see it go. I’ve met countless of people and made many friends throughout this series. From the moment I saw this trailer when I was 10 years old I knew it was something special. Although my time with the first game was short, it has cemented my love for the series as a whole. I got a Switch primarily for Splatoon 2. I bought Smash Ultimate just because Inkling was going to be a character. I even played the whole 12 hours of the Splatoon 3 Splatfest premiere and got Splatoon 3 the second it was released in my state. I’m trying really hard not to cry while typing this and it may be strange to some but this game is a big part of my life. Goodbye Splatoon 1, you’ll be gone but never forgotten ❤.

I might be wrong here, but I remember the best reactions for this announcement at the time being among the lines of "OK, that's interesting." A lot of people didn't think much of this, I even remember some thinking it looked like an eShop game. I got pretty excited after they showed more of it, but even then, I didn't think it would go far. It was a Wii U game with a pretty out there concept, odds were stacked against it being successful. And here we are now, it's one of Nintendo's biggest franchises. You love to see it.

Same actually, I remember watching this E3 with some friends and we all were ''Hey, it looks fun and the concept is a pretty original spin on a third person shooter'', but nothing more than that. We were not super hyped or anything else. Cue a year later and I bought a Wii U just for Splatoon after trying their copy out.

I'm probably one of the few people who, from the first trailer, felt this was going to be big. Same thing when the first trailer for Spider-Man Into the Spider-Verse came out - most people liked it but didn't think much of it, and there I was losing my mind having this gut feeling that it would change the industry (and it did). I don't like being the one annoying "I told you so" person... but I'd be lying if I didn't say my intuition about these things is rarely wrong.

matt4045 Yeah I know, but when almost all of the biggest games on the console meet the standard, no one should complain about the graphics since they are literally just incorrect in what they say. Those PC fanboys ranting on about how "ugh, consoles suck! They can't even run 1080p, 60 fps! PC MASTER RACE PEASANTS!" It is quite annoying considering they are completely false.

I played this game when I was 8. Now I’m 16 turning 17 in this year and this breaks my heart that seeing this game already shutdown. This game was my childhood, I got this game when it was my birthday on 2015 and played it with my sister cuz she was obsessed with this game. I remember playing the Gobal Testfire when it was out. Splatoon 3 is coming out in 3 days. Coming back to this makes me feel all nostalgic. It‘s truly wonderful to see how this franchise has grown!

Gotta love all these people arguing about which games are more innovative, graphically superior, more features, etc. Here's an opinion for ya: Shut up and play your games, whether you like Call of Duty or Splatoon... Mario Kart or Forza. PS4, Xbox One, PC, Wii U, whatever. Personally, I prefer the games coming out on the Wii U, because they look fun, in my opinion, but there is no right or wrong opinion. Just enjoy your games! :)

This, folks, is where my autistic hyper fixation first started.

3 years ago, Splatoon 3 was announced. I remember watching along to ZackScott since 2015, saving every penny I could scrap up for a used Wii-U and game disk. I eventually got it, and played religiously, not a care in the world. I bought plushies, amiibos, all things I still have now. To this day, playing the third game, I still love Splatoon. I even bought a Wii-U again, just to experience online gameplay one last time before it sits down next month, April 2024. Splatoon is one of the lists of things I can say shaped my childhood. I’ll miss Splatoon 1 gameplay and it’s chaotic nature.

This game reminds me the insane of PC games

No, The Wonderful 101 is Platinum´s IP... The other two are Project Giants Robots, Project Guard, Splatoon and the fourth is Code Name: S.T.E.A.M. for 3DS...

I'm not interested in Splatoon, but it's good to see something different. All Sony and Microsoft are giving us are copy pasta greybrown shooters.

Still crazy that the game was only 10% done when this trailer was out. Also wish they kept those some of those old stage versions.

One more to note, Walleye Warehouse had climbable crates, it would had been really easy to ambush chargers then. It was good thing it WAS 10% complete and Nintendo didn't pull a Ubisoft.

truth be told, i had absolutely NO idea this game existed until my mom bought it for me right after my fifth birthday. i know i was young but i was so hooked to this game, and to think that we're already on our third game is insane. i love splatoon so much :)

I will forever be thankful for Splatoon! It's so sweet seeing how far it has come after all these years. I can't wait for Splatoon 3 🥺

To think most people predicted this game to be a failure, and now the second game is nearing it's end with the possibility of a third one

It's 4 vs 4 online multiplayer. Not sure if you can have more than one person playing at a single console though.

I hear they've added one new gun from 2,677 which is the standard assault rifle but with a shinier metal, and a new map! ***** The thing with this game, is that there is heavy focus on needing to use the gamepad for normal play. Maybe Nintendo is finally keeping to their promise of being able to use 2 gamepads per console, so to include local co-op for games such as this..? Also, I'm not saying that local co-op isn't likely, just keeping in mind what the developers have said about the game.

i am hoping to god that the gold dynamo in S3 will have splat bomb and inkstrikes. not only is it just a good kit but its the splatoon 1 kit as well

To think that back at one point, people were doubting this game and how successful it would be... Yet only a short while ago we saw the Smash teaser, with the inklings in a recreated version of this teaser's introduction and imminent joining of the Smash roster.

It really does feel like this trailer came out yesterday when in reality it was like seven years ago I feel old now

looking back to people predicting it would do badly before launch and now seeing the series with two multi million selling games . Well done Splatoon .

Well here is your new IP guys!! everyone wanted one and you got it!! this looks very unique!!

Coming back here after the servers were shut down. I never played the first game, but without it I'd never have the second, and likewise the third. This franchise has been a large part of my life, and I'm so glad the creative minds of this fantastic AAA studio came up with it. Thank you Splatoon 1, you meant quite a lot to me.
