E18 | The Big Lap of WA - Bullara and Giralia Stations (Exmouth Gulf)

This episode we leave 40 Mile Beach free camp (South of Karratha), and find ourselves camping on the Ashburton River in the middle of a sand storm.
We check out the abandoned township of Old Onslow, and then move onto Bullara Station - a quirky low cost station stay with heaps to do for all the family.
After a couple of nights there we take the short drive to Giralia Station where we set up on the beach in the Exmouth Gulf for a couple of nights of epic sunsets and magnificent views.
Next week we are passing through Exmouth and staying in Cape Range National Park, epic coastal camping with the Ningaloo Reef just meters from us!
Thanks for watching!
Cam, Tiff and Chloe.

Hi from Vienna/Austria. After watching your videos for months now we have to say Thank You to you for sharing them. 2 years ago, we travelled by campervan from Darwin via Kacadu NP, Uluru, Kangaroo Island, Melbourne, Sidney to Cairns, altogether for 2 months, and we fell so much in love with the country and the people. Now we plan for a 4 - 5 months trip across WA, and with tons of material and books on my desk, honestly, your videos are the biggest inspiration for us. We love the way you present your trips, your insight, your country. So please keep going as we keep watching! Peter and Gerti

I have lived in Onslow the past 19 years and spent a lot of time at the Ashburton river. I have seen crocs in this river a few times now and I know they say they are sick but I don’t believe that is true. Crocs need salt into fresh to breed & de-louse so this river is perfect for them. Since crocs have been protected & no longer hunted they have been finding their way further south. Sorry about the wind but it quite normal at this time of year. Enjoy.

We have a Afrikaans saying, "gekke en dwase skryf hul name op mure en glase", rougly translated this means idiots and fools write their names on walls and windows. So yeah, I also don't know why people feel the need to write their names everywhere

What do they actually provide for $24 per night at Giralia Station? I can't understand how they (not just Giralia - but a whole bunch of these sites in WA), justify charging for driving on and staying on land that was probably given to their forefathers (although it was not theirs to give). I understand paying for improvements, toilets, water, showers etc., but a dirt track? In my mind that is immoral and repugnant.

Not much mate, to be honest we didn’t particularly enjoy Giralia. Condition of the road out to the beach was terrible and the only facility we did require (the dump point) was overfull and spilling out on the bush when we tried to use it.

The Masters and Servants Act had nothing to do with "slavery" as you claim. It related to conditions imposed on both employers and employed who had entered into contracts of employment. Today we have enterprise agreements under the Fair Work Act. Rather than enslaving aborigines, or anybody for that matter, it defined the employed as: "employed" shall include any servant, workman, labourer, clerk, artificer, apprentice, or other person, whether under or above the age-of 18 years, or Whether a married woman or not, who has entered into a contract of service with any employer, either at salary or wages, or for any remuneration... Where did you get your information about "slavery"? Why do so many people assume the worst of our forefathers and slander them on the basis of smears invented by racist activists. I enjoy your videos guys, but please don't join the throng of historical revisionists who want to destroy our history. By the way, the little critter you found is a bristle star...

Either way Grahame it was pretty disgusting what we so called Australians did to the Aborigines, a hundred years ago. Whether it was under the "act" or not. Just saying...😉😉

Gday Garry. I wasn't around 150 years ago so I can only state the facts as they're recorded and presented to me - according to the plaques around that Old Onslow ghost town that were erected by the local government, those cells with shackles were mostly used to hold aboriginals detained under the master and servants acts. They were forced to agree to contracts they didn't understand and were beaten and/or imprisoned if they did not comply. You're right, the masters were obliged to pay a token wage as per the Act. Slavery is my interpretation of the facts presented to me, appologies if that offends you. Call it what you like. On a personal note, I don't feel responsible for the actions of dead people centuries before me. I don't feel a need to appologise. But I also don't bury my head in the sand about Australia's history.

@@WildTouring fair enough but you can read the actual Act yourself. That's all I did.. Don't rely on propaganda, especially that which is divisive and clearly derogatory. It is a shame that it happens so often. Thanks again for your channel. You do a great job. Lovely family...👍
