It’s not a secret that I am big food fanatic. Therefore, I’m always in a search of good quality none expensive places that make food with a passion. Now that I and ‪@juliuskaveckas‬
are travelling around Europe, we try to explore the local cuisine of every country we visit. At the moment we are in Greece. The food variety in Greece is so big. There is traditional food served in Tavernas and grilled food which is more like fast food eaten on the go.
I’m going to do a little series to show the places we visit and the foods we try. Hope you enjoy it 😊
Today I’ll take you to 3 highest rated restaurants on Google ⭐️
For breakfast we went to this place called Hacienda it is rated 4,6 on Google. Hacienda has a restaurant award as 100 of Top places in Greece in 2021. As well as several awards for coffee skills. They have wide selection of freshly baked pastries and ready made sandwiches. The atmosphere is nice and cosy. There are comfortable seating inside and outside the restaurant. We ordered tahini bread, coffee and the cheddar cheese pancakes with turkey and avocado topped with rocket salad. Also, we tried the chicken eggs Benedict. The food was absolutely delicious the service staff was excellent, total bill was €16,50.
For lunch we went to a place called Peskesi. It is rated 4,8 on Google. The atmosphere was stylish and modern. Excellent, polite and helpful service. Peskesi is a sustainable restaurant and their main philosophy is “from the farm to the table, from the table to the farm”. The restaurant sustainable practices is listed on their menu. One of the rules the restaurant fallows is to only use food that is travelled within 100 miles (161 km) in distance or use the products grown on their farm.
Upon arrival, we received complimentary Cretan soup. Then we tried the dish called Gamopilafo. Made with young goat cooked in a yoghurt for several hours. After cooking for many hours the dish is finished under the grill with more yoghurt and kefalotiri cheese. Gamopilafo was served with creamy buttery rice. We also tried the dish called Kreokakavos honey and thyme roasted pork. The dish was served with carrot pure. To accompany our main meals we shared wild greens salad topped with galomyzithra cheese and sesame seeds. After our meal, we received complimentary dessert. It was semolina pudding with sugar syrup, nuts and olive oil. The total bill was €42. Overall we had a very memorable gastronomy experience.
For dinner we went to a restaurant called Avli Μεζεδοπωλείο "Η Αυλη". It has 4,9 star rating on Google. The restaurant is awarded as the best restaurant in Hariklion in 2022, by the restaurant guru. It is a family run restaurant. The atmosphere is authentic and cosy. Upon arrival the daughter of the restaurant chef sat down with us and went through the menu. Explaining everything that was served on the day and how it was prepared. At Avli we tried the Greek salad, grilled vegetables, grilled Loukaniko (Greek sausage) and fried lambs liver. We received complimentary grilled bread and after our meal they served us delicious selection of homemade desserts. The total bill was €34. Overall, it was very delicious Greek dinner and we received a very warm welcome by the owners. Highly recommend to visit this place.
