Gabe, the archeological museum of Heraklion won a European award for best museum. You should definitely visit it. It’s very close to your hotel. The Museum of Heraklion has a unique collection of Minoan art, mosaics, wall paintings & fresco’s and a lot of golden artifacts.

We loved Heraklion when we went, it's a little rougher around the edges than Chania but it's more of a "real" city. I would ddefinitely recommend, and of course Knossos is only a short(ish) cab ride away. :) BTW then museum in the city center is one of the best.

Absolutely worth to visit Heraklion. This is no so crowd and noisy place as: Chania or Rethymnon. You can feel the greek life. During the weekend the street is almost empty, almost every shop is closeed.

You make us visit so many different places in your unique way, and that's why I like your videos. I think you show us just enough when it comes to food related stuff, with the menus, prices and what you are having. There are travel vloggers who are much more "food oriented," but you are not one of them, period😊. Great video quality, btw, the GoPro7 seems ok .

Iraklio is the modern Greek name and Heraklion is the ancient Greek name of the city. That's the difference. I was there October 1st to 6th and had a great time. First of all, I love cities, so we differ there. I live in a city and I don't find noise or crowds off-putting. We saw Knossos, took the bus there and back (for 1.70 Euros btw). Then we rented a car and saw Phaistos (a smaller Knossos with less tourists) and swam at Kommos beach on the south of the island. Then we spent the day in Agio Nikolaos in the eastern part of the island. The highways are easy to navigate and we found that Google Maps worked better than Apple maps. I stayed at the same part of Heraklion at the Atrion Hotel. It was a good visit.

Thanks. Nice to walk down the main street in Heraklion again. Been 20 years or so. Spent 3 days their waiting for a seat on a plane back to the UK. (high season) Most of the time eating in the restaurants at the top of the main street, sitting in the shade walking the Wall. Then a jog along the breakwater near the fort and back. But would advise tourist to stay away from the more dodgy areas, as I was stalked and prepped for a mugging one night. Pretty scary if you get lost.

Nice video , you are right about not showing the food, I understand you because I use to travel alone, and is embarrassing talking to a camera! And also you can not enjoy your food. About Heraklion , this is correctly with our Latin alphabet, but in Greek is Ηράκλειο because Η or η (ita ) are the "i" in Greek alphabet, that is why you can see in the two ways, but pronunciation is Irakio without H, because in English you pronounce H as it sounds as g or j, hope you understand me Jajaja well, have a nice trip in Crete! Enjoy it ! You Must go to Balos beach!

I was hollering, “BLOOM COUNTY. BLOOM COUNTY. BLOOM COUNTY!” at the screen. Finally you got it, lol. Whew. That comic strip was so good! Iraklio/Heraklion actually seems like it could be a cool place to live if someone needed a city-like atmosphere for work & conveniences, but it’s still super in reach of relaxing areas very nearby. I could dig that. It’s a bit noisy for vacationing, though. Still an interesting place. Yeah, a big, fat AWKWARD on filming food. 😂 You’d need a team of folks to do a good food show. People should watch “Somebody Feed Phil” on Netflix if they want to watch a good food/travel program. 👍🏼✌🏼

Hey Gabe, another point you didn´t mention, with regard to filming in restaurants etc, is that it might be considered an invasion of privacy by other guests, and you might need to ask permission from the owners and other guests before filming. This is also a consideration when filming and taking photos on the street, especially in countries like France where taking a picture of someone without their permission, even in a public space, is considered an invasion of privacy for which you could be fined. I´ve be warned about that by Gendarmerie in Paris. I´ve also been yelled at by women at a road side market in the Caribbean because they thought I was taking a pic of them, and had ppl demand money to have their photo, even though I didn´t want to take their photo anyway. It´s worth remembering that vlogging is a relatively new concept, which a lot of people still think is a weird thing to do. "Back in the day", travel videos were done by a tv presenter with a big tv camera and camera crew. (I once accidentally interrupted a famous TV presenter from the Uk when she was doing a piece to camera at a harbour front in Kefallonia because I recognised her and went over to say hi, then heard "cut!" behind me :D ) So yeah it pays to be careful. Oh, and there´s another airport on Crete too, at Chania, which has great links to Athens and Northern Europe. Cheers! :)

Actually we have the male name ''Ηρακλής''( Hercules) in Greece. It is not met very often , but still exists. Someone could also make a reasonable assumption why the city is called Heraklion but in Greek it is called ''Ηράκλειο'', so the pronounciation is actually ''Iraklio''.

@@GabrielTravelerVideos hahahaha that's not the reason why it's spelled with an h and not with an i. Τhe correct spelling is with an h. Greek had no letter like the h in English. The h at the beginning of words was indicated by what we call breathing signs or simply breathings. All words that start with a vowel have a breathing sign over them, either a smooth (α pronounced 'a') or a rough (α pronounced 'ha') breathing.

We would definitely like to see more about the meals that you have at different places. That is one part I am looking forward in all your videos. I understand it is awkward to talk alone in a restaurant. I would suggest you just film there and add the captions ( description, taste etc) later while editing.

But now, it seems Crete is more appealing. Ha! It’ll be a huge group, and I’m a total foodie! Crete is definitely looking better. Actually, you might’ve recommended Crete. Ha!

Hi Gabriel, I love your style, and how informative your videos are, but there's a lot of Greece though, and this particular city, it's far too busy and noisy for my likings, hence it has to be a no go for me. I'd love to see videos from Washington State and Canada BC, but I couldn't find much from your vlogs, do you have anything from that stunning part of the world? I'm in love with Seattle, and I've visited it four times so far, and I definitely want to go back. Safe travels beautiful Soul.

Thanks. The next video will be totally different, a really relaxed spot on the south coast of Crete. Canada is amazing (I was born in Vancouver and am dual American/Canadian). I have two videos in Washington state: kzread.infosearch?query=Washington And a couple from Vancouver: kzread.infosearch?query=Vancouver And I have TONS of videos from when I was working in Jasper, Alberta: kzread.infosearch?query=Jasper Those links are utilizing the search function for my channel. When you click on the little magnifying glass then a search box opens up and it searches only my channel, not all of youtube. So you can use that in the future to search for specific videos on my channel.

I concur with your reasons for not going into detail about the food you are about to eat. Talking aloud when one is alone in a place with other people can be somewhat unnerving to them.

Hi Gabe. I'm in the process of setting up my own You tube channel and filming walks etc, (nothing posted yet) and yes I know EXACTLY what you mean about talking to yourself when filming walking/in restaurants etc. I've even had someone give me the finger and come up and ask 'where's the setup?' thinking I was filming a prank on them!!! I'm getting used to it though, I just focus on what I'm doing and after a while I forget about them. I'm also prefer quieter places, no crowds, beautiful landscapes etc. Hey my friend, don't you change a THING about what you're doing, it works perfectly as far as I'm concerned. Happy travels.
