I feed 65 deer every evening who come to my front pasture and all the way to my front door. I brought my sound bar outside tonight and played this for them while they ate. I was in my 20s in the 80s. I would have killed for music like this then. But it didn't quite exist, though there was music that was reaching for these grooves. Certain musical minds--Kraftwerk, Ministry, Brian Eno, Klaus Schulze, Tangerine Dream, Cabaret Voltaire, Thomas Dolby, Laurie Anderson--could already taste what the future would bring, and they made music I still treasure and would take to a desert island. But this music is from, and of, the present, whatever gestures it might be making to 20th century video games and media and analog synths and drum machines. History is a contemporary activity; to reimagine the past is an act of present creation. The pioneers of electronic music back then would have been surprised, and probably delighted into spasms, to hear their work interpreted as something "retro" while couched in a digital substrate they only dreamt of. We are their future.

Muzak, jingles, ice cream truck loops, theme songs--such music is often intrusive, unsolicited, and unwanted, and relegated by our minds to background noise. But often that music is the product of skilled artistry, and is only appreciated much later when removed from its original context and function.

All I want to do is drive for a long time and see where I end up. This music, for the past few years has grown on me exponentially, and overall helps me when I'm in a funk like I am currently. This makes me think for a brief moment, that I am living in a relaxed chill world where this plays over speakers ambiantly.. its slightly raining and I'm in a 24/7 coffee shop, looking at the bustling night life pass by. Neon lights of blues, pinks and reds. Ramen noodle kiosks are busy, like usual, and the pizza peddler is making his usual rounds . Looking up I see a video playing on my holographic phone, then I realize the time and set off into a nostalgic night, our world, but different.

I actually experienced this in tokyo and it rained every night. I really liked the half my size back alley ways with tubes and pipes leaking from the rain drops and the sounds when I would go through them and the way the bright street at the other end looked. I want to go back very much so. I asked a street vender where to get to a capsule hotel and basically its his fault that i went through one because he said you can go through there, better than going all the way around and i agreed and went in. Its so big over there too. The traffic robot sounds are amazing too; repetitive and polite. 😂

I have, for a long time dreamed of a cityscape like this and the only way I can say I could feel true serenity is witnessing this first hand, even if it is as simple as traveling to another country just to witness its weather/ landscape first hand.
