    FYI: The tires are not glued onto the hub but pinched on both sides by screwed on hub rings. Mine popped out and went flat after a hard landing bounce. I was able to fix it by taking it apart and putting it back together, and hopefully, this will not happen again. Even with that however this plane flies great and I LOVE it! Running on G2 6S 4000mAh/50C batteries. Great Video! I do wish they painted the prop blades with yellow tips! That would be so cool! I am also going to go full span ailerons to speed up the roll rate and make her more "Timber X"ish (or stay OEM and use the next hole on the control horn). Also, set your ESC brake force to "7" according to the manual for reverse thrust, you had it at "0".

    I didn't mess with Break Force (And realize I should) but don't like the break, even though it's "preparing" the motor to reverse ;) Sorry to let you down, and THANK YOU for pointing that out here, since some will want to do it to spec, but I honestly missed it in the manual. This needs to be RIGHT next to the radio setup stuff. Horizon does a pretty good job on these things, but could use some more refining with regard to standardizing the manuals.

    I bought one of these the second it came out. The quality is outstanding and much higher than I was expecting. Everything from how it was packed, to the finishing of the aircraft was top notch. It's clear that this airplane was very carefully designed. Assembly was very easy and she looks great! The only thing I can complain about is that they did not label the wires on the PNP version. After I placed the order I started to wonder if I had been smooth talked by Two Brothers and Brian Phillips RC into buying a plane that may not be as good as advertised. However this was not the case! This baby really is a 10/10!

    Hey Brian! That hard elevator induced roll is called a snap, and it’s caused when the elevator stalls and stops providing that counter force to the wings, so the wings will want to lift out of control, whichever wing has more lift at that moment is the way it rolls. I would tone down the elevator throw and/or more your cg more forward to avoid that. The elevator on that thing is the majority of the horizontal stabilizer, so not surprising it snaps FAST. Hope that helps!

    Damn, that thing fly beautifully. That is a thing what I like > 1.2 planes that they have the slower speed and handling is far nicer. For some reasons I don't like turbine fighters and other high speed planes, as you can't enjoy from nuance's in landing, take-off and all maneuvers. You don't get to see the landing gear working, or flaps have effect to become very slow and get the good landings. And when doing maneuvers, you don't "feel" the air, when they just go zoooOOOMMmmmm.... Tank you for the video, it is always moral booster to see couple having fun together in some hobby and hear someone be like a forever kid while doing it... And to get all the information nicely, the insights from hobby and all... Never a infocormercial but really about the hobby. I am seriously considering now this one, or the 1.2 (or was it 1.4) T-6, as I am sucker to slow speed landings and naval operations (not so much for USN). And really liked idea of retractable landing gear, but this with fixed looked great too.

    4:14 I've had the same issue with my E-flite mustang for years, (dallas doll 1.1m) if I pull hard elevator then it always rolls to one side, I actually put it into a tree once because I wasn't expecting it to turn direction on me, seems to only happen under hard elevator, otherwise not really an issue. I'm wondering if its a AS3X programming error.

    That is so good to hear!!! Thank you for the positive feedback, and we're very glad we can help. When we review these planes, most of which I kinda LOVE, it can be hard to help people draw a line between "Good" and "Bad", since everyone has their own taste, and we try HARD to respect that, but you're right, when I don't like them, or they're not worth the effort, or too many issues, we hope our audience can "read between the lines" and use our experience to help guide their purchase decisions. This is a highly subjective hobby, at the end of the day, so we do try hard not to step on toes ;)

    It's the slats that are causing the unpredictability in flight, that you're experiencing. Take those stupid things off. It will fly much better without them. The designers are trying to increase the wing area, but the slats are inherently changing the airfoil shape, causing a lack of control, as they're acting as air-brakes. RC planes have a history of performing poorly with slats. The reason they work on real airplanes, is because they are deployable, and retractable, much like flaps on the trailing edge of the wings.

  • @BrianPhillipsRC

    @BrianPhillipsRC

    Ай бұрын

    We talked a bit about this in our flights, but not sure if you watched the whole thing...it's long, as usual ;) As for the difference, It's FEATURE packed, and half the cost of the 2.0m SWS...which is kinda weird, since I'd think the SWS ought to be JUST as feature packed. Horizon Hobby will almost certainly offer upgrades to the SWS at some point to cover these "short fallings" of the SWS in light of the Super Timber 1.7m. I think they wanted to put the pneumatic tires on the SWS, but they weren't ready for delivery when the SWS was in production. As for my NO BS take...you already said it. Half the price, MORE features....but it's still FOAM. For some, that's a deal breaker, and there's no argument that the SWS will be around in 15 years, and totally viable, aside from a little dust, whereas these foam planes don't usually have that type of survivability. That being said, the cost is the big function of my leaning toward the 1.7m - most are WAY more likely to eat this one up, while the SWS is just a smaller market of more "serious" rc aviation enthusiast. Also, the SWS is gonna allow for gasser, if you were into that sort of thing (easier). Anyway, I love BOTH.

    @@BrianPhillipsRC i have to admit that i only watched about 80% of your build video and 40% of the flight videos. Because as you said they are long videos and i usually watch them in parts. Love to fly more and sit behind the computer less 🙂 But don't get me wrong, i love you guys videos and they are one of my four reference channels that i follow for info on planes. Maybe i will take the jump to the SWS since i already own a Turbo Timber and the Cessna 150T. Maybe time to add a balsa plane to the collection. One thing that will be installed straight away in the SWS are quick connects for the wing wires. Can not be bothered hooking up six plugs each time i want to put it together. For me that is the biggest failure that eflite made with the plane, but it is easily fixed with some xtreme multi connectors.

    It's OKAY, but a bit more "bitey" than I would want for a brand new pilot. There are some that would say "YEP", but we want you to have a GREAT experience, and this might be a bit too much plane for a beginner. As for RETURNING to the hobby, enthusiast, maybe from a few years OFF, this plane would be a good choice still, but if you think it's "easy to fly" then you might be in for a bit of a handful. The 1.5m is and has been a good choice for more beginner friendly, if you really want my suggestion, but to be honest, the UMX Timber, might be a GREAT starting point, then just vet your skills, then jump in with BOTH feet...this might get you from point A to point B quickest, and for the least amount of money. bprc.me/Timber

    Too much elevator travel can cause the airplane to snap roll. One of my acrobatics airplane is very picky with elevator inputs. I reduced the travel and now is more predictable. Hope this will fix your weird issue on your Super Timber.

    Tail Heavy Productions said flying is not best enjoyed in a vacuum. I still have not listened to that advice, I fly alone, I do all my own repairs . So I have a Super theory, after watching this thing. You learn the Super Timber before going UMX Turbo Timber Evolution. Learning to fly any UMX on 8 mph variable winds on AS3X I would argue is too stressful. My advice, Get a super, Find a Brian at your local airfield and ask for help learning the Super. Then after you learn the big brother Super Timber, the UMX Turbo Timber learning is informed... Then if the local Brian is annoying, you can ditch him. Is what I was thinking
