E- bike on the biggest jumps in Whistler.

Спорт

I brought my E-bike into the Whistler bike park for the first time. The e bike is a 2022 Norco Range VLT. It has 29 inch wheels and a 900 Wh battery. You don't see many E-bikes in the park. I would rather ride my regular bike for the simple fact that E-bikes are expensive, and bike parks are really hard on bikes. The benefits of the E-bike are mostly negated by having a lift. I did find it easier or at least more confidence inspiring to ride my heavy e-bike on the crabapple hits because I think it feels more stable when compared to my Commencal Clash. Whistler's jumps are big enough that a 29er feels great on all of the jump lines. The biggest jump in whistler is a 58 foot table top on Carbapple Hits. The jump is where the world championship whip-offs are held every year during crankworx. You come into the lip with a lot of speed. the thought of whipping off of the jump is scary. Props to the competitors of that event.

    Ive got the range A2 and its been incredible for DH tracks, If I had 200mm front rear that would be most ideal but its honestly super close to a dh bike in feeling. Very planted and very fast. Gotta show the people the weight doesn't matter 😅 cheers

    Good man, I only got into MTB 12 months ago and ended up getting an emtb. I'm older so wanted something easier on the climbs, can feel the weight but I watched Danny MacAskill and saw how he could throw it around so I approached the emtb differently and got more physically with it. I give it more muscle to throw it around now. As another commenter mentioned motorx, I think emtb is is an inbetweener for riding technique.

    Nice, I don't regret buying mine. I still like having the regular bike, but I feel like I can do anything on the E-bike that I can do on the regular bike. Maybe a bit more sluggish/cumbersome in tighter trails and jumps, but you get used to it.

    in my opinion i don't get why people are scared of the last jump, the stepdown before scares me instead, i found that you have to really give the stepdown a good pull otherwise you nose dive, the last jump is by far the best jump on earth.

    Great stuff here. Done Crabapple and DM on an Enduro bike, do you feel more stable with the added weight from the ebike? How does the ebike handle berms and landings weight may make it feel harsher 🤷🏻‍♂️?

  • @samsherwoodrides

    @samsherwoodrides

    3 ай бұрын

    Id say it feels a little more stable in the air. The landings are more stable if its a good landing, but if you come up short or go long, you can feel the added weight. Big bike park corners aren't an issue, but if its tight and steep, you feel the weight.

  • @rerikm

    I'm new here. Just wondering if twisting the handlebar eveytime you jump is necessary or is just your style?

  • @samsherwoodrides

    @samsherwoodrides

    It's sort of an automatic response to try and not be stiff in the air. Also just trying to learn how to do bigger whips. Whips are mostly just for looks, but there is an awkward stage when they don't quite look stylish. But it's necessary to keep doing them to learn big ones.

    It held up well until I sold it. Now I have a Transition Repeater. The Transition is more lively feeling on jumps. The Norco does better on fast tech. It's more of a monster truck. But I think the Repeater is more fun for the riding I do most.

    I'm 5'10", 1.78 meters. It's a medium. I've since sold it and now have a Transition Repeater. Both are fun. If you like jumping and bouncing around, the repeater is better. If you like rock gardens and going fast, the Range is better.

    Isn't it a bit uncomfortable doing whips with a heavy bike like that?

  • @samsherwoodrides

    @samsherwoodrides

    Жыл бұрын

    It's not as bad as you would think. If I were more daring, I could have thrown it out a lot more. The bike was not the limiting factor in whip size here. You don't notice the weight as much when you are in the air. It's more noticeable on the landings, in the corners, and when braking down hill. You feel it a bit in the air, but the heavy battery and motor are low in the frame, so it helps keep the center of gravity lower.

  • @johnnyvivic8730

    Not any more uncomfortable than doing it on a dirt bike, and motocross is basically where whips started in the first place.

    Yea I’m my opinion if your an experienced rider and above 120lbs the added weight to the bike will not make a difference. I personally don’t have one but have rented them at parks and within a run you can get used to it and do exactly what you can with a pedal bike
