Hi there . I have an solution for you regarding brightness . I recommend that you try an Lyngdorf tdai 2170 out . I have Focal 836w with Lyngdorf . You can decide how you want the sound and it can make your speakers sound better then stock ✌🏻 . Keep it up !

Really enjoying your chat dome mids properly done are magic! If you want to be blown away try and get a hold of Dynaudio Confidence 5 absolutely magic listen for 10 hours at a time deep tight sealed bass and sound just about perfect -remember first order crossovers make a huge difference as well -the music usually just seems more real not hifi -of course driver quality is very important with 6db slopes

Hi, I have a pair of Dynaudio contour 3.0 speakers from 1998, $5,000 list that i got a great deal on at $1,400 used 1 year ago. i love them. I have an compact Arcam 5.1 solo movie receiver from 2006, 50 watts 8 ohms, 70 watts 4 ohms that I use the preouts to feed a Bryston 3b 120 watt 8 ohms 200 watt 4 ohms power amp from the 1990s. The arcam listed for $3,000 new, was $1,100 refurbished. The Bryston was $1,400 new, was $550 used. Both were bought 2 years ago. I like getting a great deal on used equipment like you too. I was thinking of getting a used Arcam 7.1 AVR600 120 watts 7 channels reciever from 2009 used for $600 to $900 or getting something like a Naim, Emotiva, or Simaudio moon integrated or power amp to be an improvement over the Bryston. The Arcam would be a good choice for the Dynaudio 3.0s because it can drive the 4 ohm loads the Dynaudios need. I have Goldenear aon 3 and Epos m5i bookshelf speakers that are 7 years old and cost about $1,000 a pair new that would complete a 7.1 system with the Dynaudio 3.0s if necessary. But i am also open to using a stereo integrated or power amp that would produce at least 200 watts per channel into 4 ohms for the Dynaudios in a 2 channel music system, like a Naim, Emotiva or Simaudio moon amp, for instance. The Dynaudios have a smooth relaxed and detailed high end, like your speakers in this video. What sort of 7.1 receiver or 2.0 amplification do you recommend that would be under $,2000 used or $5,000 new? If I got a new amp, im open to getting a sharp detailed sounding amp that is similar to the sharp clear, hyper detailed sound you get from your Focal 1028be speakers I saw in your other youtube video. At times i like the Dynaudio contour 3.0s sound, smooth, detailed, taut bass, like your Dynaudio 2 mark 2 speakers, at times i like very sharp, hyperdetailed, clear, revealing sound like your Focal 1028 be speakers deliver. I like both sounds. What amps are standout performers to match with the Dynaudio 3.0s? I'm aware of amps like Classe', Pass, parasound, paragon, Oddyssey, Krell, etc. I'm probably a solid state amp fan at this stage, I don't necessarily favor a tube amp, and tube amps are usually too low wattage for the 200 watt per channel 4 ohm Dynaudio 3.0s. The Dynaudios have 1 soft dome tweeter, 1 5 inch cone midrange, and 1 8 inch bass cone driver with a 3 inch voice coil that goes down to 32 hz bass. Any thoughts from you would be greatly appreciated. You seem to have the same purchasing situation as i do. I am also considering getting a pair of Dynaudio Special 40 bookshelf monitors new that just came out and are $3,000 with an Esotar tweeter and a 7 woofer, if i decide not to go for a new amp. I listen to all kinds of music, from classical and jazz to acoustic guitar, rock, and heavy metal and death metal. At soft, average, and sometimes really loud volumes. I have a 20 year old Definitive 200 watt 15 subwoofer, and am planning on getting a new $900 HSU 15 inch subwoofer, or a $2,000 SVS sb16 ultra 16 inch subwoofer soon, to add to the Definitive sub. The definitive sub goes down to about 30 or 35 hz. Any thoughts? Great video by the way, thanks.

Thanks for the comment. I am stuck in the same situation as you in the sense always wondering what 7.1 amp to get. I ended up with 2 system. One for home theater and the other just for music listening. My friend has the bryston 3B and the person who bought my bel canto also had the 3B. (He was blown away when he tried the bel canto 1000s) I can tell you right away you are only bringing out 60% of your speakers potential. I have auditioned 4 sets of dynaudio so far and owned 3. Everyone of them requires a lot of power. I know you can play your speakers loud with your current amp but that is not why I am recommending a high power amp, its the smoothness that comes with it that is the key. In the AV receiver world, the receivers I tried, besides all the budget receiver like pioneer, onkyo, sony, the only one I consider higher end that I have tried are the integra 9.2 and Athem (forgot model). I also had the Emotiva XPA5, XPA2 power amps at one point. All I can say is that those are good but they are not audiophile level. The integra 9.2 was descent for an AV amp. If I had no choice and can only used one set of speakers for both music and movie, I probably will go with an integra 9.2 and emotiva xpa5. I owned both so I know they are pretty ok. If you are don't mind buying, trying and selling, a very safe bet is a bryston 4B sst or 4B sst2. Buy it, try it and you can resell it easily the price you paid. In canada, they go from $2k to $2.5k, if you can get one at $2k cdn, its good. Make sure its the SST and up. I can keep raving about high poweramp combo with dynaudio but until you try it, its hard to understand why. I also had the simaudio i5, tried the Moon W5, those are great but not for dynaudio. Regarding subwoofer and music, I am not a big fan of it but I will do a video at one point, I currently have 4 sub at home and owned many more so I do have a bit experience with subs.

I use the X38, all Dynaudios have a very pure midrange that is addictive and benefit greatly from amplifiers that are full in the mids with a touch of warmth IMHO The Contour line is supposed to be a little difficult to drive and they sound best with some serious power behind them while the Excite series is an easier load so even tube amps may apply.

All the Dynaudio i owned are so hard to drive. I even had the compound 2 dynaudio. When i wrote to Dynaudio, they were guessing 82db to 84 db! They did not even know.

What is funny is that the Excite line as well as the Contour line is on paper very average. What i mean is that the boxes are rectangular so no clever curvy design, the bass management is ordinary bass reflex so no clever engineering here either, no exotic tweeter just traditional soft dome and no fancy materials for the woofers either. By all means they should sound ok but not special so i did not pay attention to them for a long time. Boy was i wrong...When i first auditioned them my jaw dropped to the floor. It was a good lesson for me not to judge a book by the cover. Unfortunately in HiFi we often shop with our eyes. Thank you for your honest reviews.

@Csab Hi sorry for late reply, i didn't notice your question earlier. Yes X38 is surprisingly punchy for the size but i guess X44 can do even better as a bigger speaker.

Hello. At the moment, I have a small room 4 * 4 meters, in such a small room will this acoustics sound good? Or is it better to choose bookshelf speakers for such a small room? (for example contour 1.1/1 mkii) But I am afraid that the speakers will not be able to sound surround at a low volume. I would be very grateful for your advice.

You should try the Focal Sopra’s they have that balance of hyper detail and rich spellbinding midrange musicality of the Dynaudio. I found that to be the key diffrence to the Electra range. And they even have nicer midrange than the utopia.

Thomas & Stereo Yes they do something magical. They don’t have the scale of say a Scala or Stella utopia (for larger rooms) but they manage to be more enjoyable in the mids and sweeter in the treble and have more than enough bass for me at 27hz. Unless you listen to organ music or have a big room too much bass below 30hz can be a problem. I found this in my room with the 802 D3 and preferred sopra. I think these are my speakers for life and like you I’ve been through many.

Do you have general tips for selecting an amplifier to pair with Dynaudios? I know you mention at least 300 watts, but do they require high current? I am considering the Dynaudio Excite X44 that also seem to be hard to drive as all Dynaudios seem to be due to their low sensitivity and impedance. Are there some brands or specific amplifiers that you recommend pairing with Dynaudios?

It all depends on your budget, I am going to review some more expensive amps now but I am still looking for some mid level integrated amps.

You mentioned 300 watts and up to power these speakers. Do you mean 300 watts in 4ohms and up,or do yo mean 300 watts in 8ohms and up ?

Originally, all the amps I got at the time were 300w 8 ohm so it';s driving these speakers at 300w+. But I would say 300w @ 4 ohm is enough now that I experiment more.

This might sound bit anal but BAD cable maintence. I got 7.2 set up for home cinema using QED genisis silver spiral bi wire for my front 3 channels and they are way thicker then those behind. But are so well hidden that if you go behind my unit and then you might see them. Not front the front

Yes, its nice when all the cables are hidden away, eventually I will. At this stage, I am still testing gears so I need it to be exposed so I can swap cables. Eventually once I settle on my last system, then I will tuck everything away.
