Hey Gang, I'm welding the roof on the cobra jet. Lots of things involved with this process, but it came out great. Good things are coming.

I dream of getting parts that fit without a huge amount of modification but we don't live in a perfect world. I am impressed with the progress. It looks like a 69 and not a pile of parts. Good job my friend.

You could also glue the roof that is in the gutters, then you immediately have a watertight edge and it will never come loose again

I was going to mention to not worry about grinding the upside down welds until it's on the rotisserie. Much easier then. The hinges are in a safe place for now unless I come up with a car for them. :)

Lots of good info in this video. Definitely bookmarking this one for when I do the roof on my 65. I know it is slightly different than the 69 Mach 1, but still lots of good info. !!!

T.P tools have the tips that will fit the 240v harbor freight spot welder and they are small enough to fit between the rain gutter and the roof skin. I hung the spot welder off of my engine hoist to make it simple to control

You've done enough of these to know but just a word of caution. Lay the back glass in the opening and check the width and arch front to back. If those aren't right the window glass gasket and trim won't fit. And that carries all the way down to the width of the wheel openings and tire clearance. The car looks good from a distance.I'd also recommend wasting a trunk lid gasket to make sure it seals, before paint.

I am totally surprised that when you welded the quarters in place that you didn’t hang the doors to get the door to quarter gap or did you do it off camera?

  • @JoDaddysGarage

Really not much I can do to change it. Experience tells me I can’t move the wheelhouse which also means I can’t move the quarter. The quarter is set at zero gap compared to the rocker panel. It really can’t be moved.

@@JoDaddysGarage for your psych I hope you don't have a problem, but I personally have never hung a quarter panel without having the door set in its proper place to establish the inward or outward gap between the door and quarter good luck. I hope you're right.

Did you use weld through primer or some type of corrosion preventative on the structure and bottom of the roof panel prior to welding the roof panel on?
