An interesting part of this is that they mentioned that there were marginal seats in Northern Ireland as well as in Great Britain on this. That suggests that Hacker's party (which is purposefully ambiguous) is a party that is competitive across the entire UK, which parties in real life don't do since NI has its own Party System. Labour bans their members from running in NI, the Tories have occasionally ran a few candidates for Parliament and the Assembly but they've never come anywhere near winning.

Love this episode. In many ways it predicted the smoking trends. Its ban. Its insane increase as cigarettes do cost the same as a bottle of vodka😂😂 Only a matter of time before alcohol goes the same way. Just as soon as they find a way to make a profit from weed and vaping😅 to sponsor sports

Meat consumption could be a natural next step after alcohol. People don't need to do it, it's linked to cancer, and therefore bad. Dangerous sports like skiing cause a burden on the health service and aren't necessary for life, which is the most important thing. Similarly, sex can spread STDs... Demolition Man: "It has been decided that anything not good for you is bad and therefore illegal."

A study found that alcoholics could lose between 24 and 28 years of life - which makes it a worse problem than smoking.

this scene is another real life classic to show how democracy is a joke and power money and influence is the only currency that matters in life

Well in this case, it’s British democracy aka a parliamentary government. True democracy does not work because it’s just bad governance.

For the perfect example of this, just look at sport today. Tobacco companies are still not allowed to sponsor sporting events because smoking kills people, but the politicians and sporting bodies have no problem with Saudi butchers coming into golf, football and many others. I'm no fan of the tobacco industry but I abhor hypocrisy.

Given that Potts primary argument was that banning smoking would be an unpopular policy decision I can only assume that you are trolling with that comment.

I support smoking (though admittedly do not smoke myself). 1. Tobacco tax revenue greatly exceeds the cost of treating tobacco related illness (as long as we have an NHS). 2. Premature deaths saves on state pension payouts. Long may the habit continue.

Cigarette butts poison waterways every year, reducing quality of drinking water, especially in rural areas and litter streets in urban ones. Also smokers take more sick days and cost the NHS more over their lifetime.

i dont. One can argue that the economy is of a nature where we work toghether to make added value to our lives with the limited resources we have, but in the case of cigarettes we are in fact wasting time and resources to produce something that has no benificial use and might make people sick. It's the element of adictiveness that fosters demand despite all these considerations. That said, i would neither support banning smoking alltoghether, but my policy would be to forbid the sales of tobacco. So with other words, if you smoke you need to grow it yourself. I know that would inconvenience a lot of smokers, but the reason for it lies foremost with the producers who are otherwise incentivised to seek methods by which they would get more people to smoke and which they have done in the past or up into the present if not trough questionable ways of political lobying. Their bussiness is rather immoral, and its quite questionable that people would be making money at the expense of the health of others. And not just nessecarily those who choose to smoke alone, we already have gone a way to ban smoking from public areas and that took political effort as to decrease the effect of second hand smoke for example, but there are not an insignificant amount of family units where children grow up in smoke filled rooms too.

I take it youve never seen someone die gasping for breath. Or a man of 50 who could only walk to the bottom of his bed. Or the children sobbing at their prematurely dead father's funeral and their mother contemplating years of having to live on benefits. Yet another cost to the tax payer you forgot.
