Dying City: Inside an Illegal NYC Apartment
This apartment is definitely not what you’ll see on tv shows like “million dollar listing”, but this is the reality of living in New York City on a budget. For the record, this is way nicer than my first NYC Apartment…

Wait - the third bedroom is accessed through the second bedroom? What insanity!! The view is a bunch of strangers' windows. New York city - what a crazy place! A dungeon rents for $7000+. I'm agog.

@humboldt 🐻 bear : cash Jordan is fun & absolutely nerdy😊cute .The NYC apts he shows are always interesting. I lived in Manhattan ("the city") many yrs ago when apts were actually, unbelievably, cheap--affordable. Moved to one of the outer boroughs yrs ago, stayed put, traveled Europe alot, still stayed put &after divorce, bought myself & 5yr old son a modest, cozy1600 sq ft, 2 bdrm, 2 level waterfront bungalow w/a deck & patio facing water. It's not an apartment, its a stand-alone structure on co-op owned land. Monthly mtge,co-op fee & real estate tax = $917.00. I still love Manhattan after all the yrs but it's only 20-40 mins away by car depending on distance to travel. Cant afford to live there now & wouldn't pay insanely hi rent for an acceptably "cool" apt NOR would I pay a low rent to live in a closet. Unfortunately, rents in the outer boroughs became ridiculously hi, pre-covid.Don't know how pple afford them😕, especially since covid & inflation on EVERYTHING. Just content & grateful to have my own little piece of heaven where i was able to raise a kid safely. BTW, HumboldtBear, are you in Mendocino Cnty (green triangle?). Would love to see that part of the states one of these days. Peace out✌️ & "Live, from NYC"!

I'm Scottish, and I thought our prices were crazy! I just checked the price for 3 bedroom apartments in our capital city of Edinburgh, and it works out to be about 1/3 of the price of these, and Edinburgh is considered very expensive. I suppose most people in New York live a long way out of the city and spend hours commuting. They do look nice though, and seem to be a lot more spacious than I would expect for a city centre.

@@baumwolke2078Yes it is. I’m born and raised in Brooklyn, and would never move back to the city (Manhattan) because I can’t afford it. I once lived in a studio in the upper east side with my boyfriend. We paid $2100 monthly for one big room. Now we live in a beautiful Pre-War one bedroom in Brooklyn for under $1800. Bay Ridge is one of the few last affordable hidden gem neighborhoods in all of Brooklyn.
A couple of unique places with Alex... he's a cool guy...then the dynamic duo of Cash and Charles.. great way to start my Sunday 😊
I would think that you would get a washer and dryer on anything over $3K/mo. That way you can take in laundry to do, to help pay for the rent. 🤔
I love this channel. I have no intention of moving to NYC while I'm in a very comfortable 3 BD, 2.5 Bath Home. However, watching this channel has taught me a lot about the Burroughs and neighborhoods. I bet I'd feel almost like a native if I visit again. I liked all of Charles' apartments, and loved the studio because of the huge outdoor space. The first apartment shown was not something I would rent because I am not fond of rats and flooding. Also, that long downstairs entrance; sure hope it's well lighted at night. I am also glad to see some apartments with real kitchens! Appliances crammed into a corner of the living space are not really kitchens. Cash and Charles are a great duo!

It's always interesting/fun to explore these apartments, and Cash and Charles are very watchable hosts. I chuckle when Cash says 'free AC' - wait until the utility bill comes. And though the necessity of it is obvious, the idea of having multiple roommates that always worried me is that life is unpredictable: an unexpected job offer in another city or state, a health issue, a sudden family emergency back home - it seems that with 3 or more roommates especially, you would be in the situation of regularly having to find someone new who is compatible. Maybe it's easier in your 20s? I can't remember that far back.
I always look forward to each new episode but I’m always especially excited to see that Mr Charles Monroe is featured today- y’all should have your own series on hgtv for real ❤
The Cash and Charles show will be a great one 🤗 !!
Good morning Cash. If you can afford these apartments you don't need a washer/ dryer. Just buy new clothes every other day. Be the Reacher. You know what I'm saying. Never ever carry luggage. Just shop in your destination even if it's a thrift store. Charles, mad props for your pads and your impersonating Cash. We wait for shtik like this. He did it with love.

The last apartments were really nice. Glad to see Charles hand is better. Have a nice weekend!
Well, Alex redeemed himself with those first three listings! However, in that second unit of his... what was that in the corner with black cabinets? I've NEVER seen such a large microwave like that! That ground floor unit was GORGEOUS! Charles listings were better though (of course they are) because of the amount of space and storage, plus the full-sized appliances, that you get for your money. Charles' building had the BEST laundry facility that I have ever seen on this channel! The only thing missing was the folding tables. But having a bathroom in the laundry facility is a nice compensation.

Don’t know how you could list the second apartment as a three bedroom. Maybe you could call it a 2 bedroom with a bonus room. But I guess landlords will list their apartments any way they see fit to guarantee it rents, right?
These apartments were really nice. All the listings would be great if I could get used to the price . But it’s the price you pay to live in such a fantastic city. Good job Cashn.😊

You can keep New York. I'll take The mountains any day
I picture flooding and breakins and a laughable price. The second one you go through another person's room..no way.
Charles always brings it!!
I find these Vids and Cash entertaining. I enjoy the mini neighborhood tours and I'm still floored and amazed at the prices people will pay to gain the inferred status of living in NYC even if being screwed over and crammed into jail cell spaces or sharing with multiple people like crowded rats in a tiny cage... Often climbing 5 or 6 flights for the "privledge".. Private laundry not guaranteed. Nope.
So I've worked all day, no time to eat, bit by a cat so I'm in pain, but..... before I do anything I have to watch Cash and Charles do what they do best! Never been to NY, probably will never live there; but feel I need to critique the storage in each apt. Ugggh. Natural brick WITHOUT gloss!! I love that basement unit! Actual hardwood floors...reminds me of an apartment somewhere in Europe, like Spain. It's so old that it has those half cylinder shaped thingies as the ceiling...I don't think my city has that, as most buildings aren't older than 1871.

Cash, you really should talk to some of the space saving furniture people and get them to advertise or put links on your page. That sweet studio with the outside area is a great candidate for the space saving furniture that exists now that was only in our dreams several years ago.
