Living in NYC’s Smallest Box-Apartment…

This apartment seems small, but sometimes thats the price that has to be paid if NYC is where you want to live! Would you travel to Manhattan with a suitcase and rent this? Its probably the most affordable place in town, and just to make sure we compare it to a few others nearby.

The rents have gone insane, with all the commercial real estate empty the city is in for a serious correction. Bedrooms are so tiny for the amount of money, who has a bedroom that's only 8 ft. wide, crazy.

If four people share an apartment, the odds are very good that one of them is an ax murderer. NYC is far too expensive, that's why I plan to retire to Buenos Aires in June '24. I'm currently living and working in Nassau Bahamas and rent a three-bedroom townhouse with a private swimming pool for $2500/month. BTW, my townhouse has an in-unit washer, dryer, dishwasher AND a sink sprayer.

My wife and I love your videos. From the looks of things, it looks like we will not be returning to New York anytime soon. Would it be at all possible to show an apartment that's affordable and would fit a family of four. Tbh, most of the apartments you show are lovely for a single person or roommates, but are way overpriced. I think nyc needs to get it's shit together or everyone will leave.

The reason the full-size stacked washer and dryer opened that way is because they’re supposed to when they are side by side on the floor. The full sized washers always seem to always open to to the left and dryers open to the right….like mirror images of each other. Now the small-size washers and dryers that are historically meant to be stacked may always both open the same way…usually to the right I think. I did have an apartment once with those small stackables and both opened that way. Anyway, that’s my thinking.

The last apartment was a real winner. Loved the dining area, the bathroom and the spacious rooms and extra closets! That foyer would do great as a home office and although the kitchen was tiny, it'd be workable if you 1. put a china/silverware cabinet in the main room 2. staged a small coffee/booze cart just to the right of the door into the kitchen itself and 3. used the dining table to do your chopping and prepping, or maybe squeezed a small rolling cart by the window/sink. Getting a custom cutting board to fit over the sink might work too. The rest of the apartment was so roomy and comfortable that the kitchen issues weren't overly important. That one place with fuses, though! WTH?! I didn't know that was even still legal. Knob and tube, anyone? Crazy...

The four-bedroom seems pretty well set up for a four-person share. Paying $3,300 for a small one-bedroom walkup strikes me as excessive. The $4,500 two-bedroom had a reasonable amount of space although the kitchen was a bit cozy. The slanted bar in the bathroom is for handicapped/elderly assist when using the toilet. Charles' $3,400 one-bedroom was dated and the kitchen was cramped, but the living area and bedroom were quite spacious. It was in an elevator building with laundry. The studio for $2,800 was also reasonably spacious. The last one had lots of room, and it was in a building with a big laundry room and a gym, though $4,300 for one bedroom isn't cheap.
