My fathers cousin has dwarfism and they are from a much older generation. He was the only dwarf in our family and he was treated so bad by so many people including his own brother. His mother and my dad were his only safety. My dad defended him through everything and gave him the ability to build his own personality. When my dad passed this year his cousin and I hugged so tight crying and it showed me how much my father truly meant to him. He told me if it wasn't for my dad treating him like a person he would of been dead 😪. People don't realize how much cruel words or kind words can shape someone else's future. Thank you for what your doing.

It would be offensive if one of us were to just assume that we could do that to other people just because of their size but for peet he's grown up with them. They've had unique curiosities to fulfill and comfortable habits developed by that unique experience. TLDR it's odd to us because we didn't grow up with little people in our family but for peet this was probably an everyday joke tastefully executed by the people that understood and made light.

It sucks that we always focus on differences, whatever they may be, instead of just accepting the whole of the person and appreciating them for who they are instead of just what they look or sound like. My best friend growing up was extremely hard of hearing and got so much static from other mean kids about his speech. It made me insanely angry... but he said he was "lucky" cuz he couldn't even hear them! Adversity seems to make people stronger even if it isn't easy to experience.

You’ll probably never see this Peet, but I just wanted to say that having a healthy sibling in the family can be really comforting and grounding. I say this as one of four siblings, three of whom have health issues. The fact that one of my brothers is doing totally fine is soooo awesome, and not just because he can help my parents and my other brother. Whenever I’m thinking of everything we have to deal with, I can say to myself, “Well, at least he’s doing great!” 😄 It lends a level of emotional stability to the medical chaos. So don’t ever feel guilty for being the healthy one. You’re meant to be who you are, where you are. 💖

This year, for October and Dwarfism awareness, I think it could be very therapeutic for you to maybe “interview” your family and even some friends with dwarfism to shed light on some of the stereotypes AS WELL as some things they like/dislike about being in an “average size” world. My family is short, but we don’t have dwarfism. However, one thing I didn’t know was my parents had the brakes on my bicycle adjusted. When I was a little kid, I raced my friend and when we traded (so I could prove I was just faster and it wasn’t the bike), I wound up getting into a serious accident and broke my arm in 2 places because I couldn’t reach the brakes to stop. I think it’s really brave of you to share your side, but to help raise awareness it could help to hear the other side. Adjustments that they’ve made… in the home, in their car(s), etc. Myths and misconceptions, etc. Maybe even use your platform to do a fundraiser for research - not necessarily for a cure, but for a treatment for people with your mom’s type of dwarfism because of the physical pain, etc.

She won bronze and gold medals at the Paralympics. Sadly she passed away two years after winning gold. That was 20 years ago now but I still miss her.

It's sad that you only understand it if you live with it. But that's the same with a lot of things in life.

And, even though I am an average person, I'm very short and people have asked if I had dwarfism (no) and even to this day - in my late 30s - even I have dealt/deal with the head pats, the bending over to talk to me, the picking up. It's degrading for me, I can't imagine the things little people go through due to ignorance or just sheer stupidity. You are a beacon of hope.

High five, Mama!! You did an excellent job, especially ensuring others that your son was referring to heard. I’m in the exact same boat as you with a son the same age as well. It truly blows my mind those moments when we as parents know we’ve taught them better than to act like that, and I also scold (all 3 of my kiddos lol) just as you did whenever needed regarding peoples differences. WE have to show this upcoming generation to embrace differences and diversity in this world full of Kardashian wannabes and look alikes! It truly scares me at what our babies will be having to deal with as they get older, so now is the best time to teach and encourage kindness, compassion and empathy. Keep up your amazing efforts Mama! 💜 Your son will be an amazing person (as he already is, I’m sure 😊), and he will make a difference/be the change we so desperately need in this world RN. 💝

I have a good friend who has dwarfism, and every time he gets harassed by people he actually has to hold me back so I don't go ballistic. Which I always find interesting because I am 5'5 and a powerhouse despite having cerebral palsy and he has dwarfism (I think possibly the same as your mother, but I don't want to seem impolite to him so I don't ask) and is about 4'7 now. I definitely feel like I am the 1 person who treats him like a normal person. If he had a muscular spastic episode (my CP makes me have almost weekly [pain scale: 5-9] spastic episodes) I would just be right next to him letting grab my arm if he needed(though he never did I still offer) because I know exactly how those spasms feel. He'd return the gesture a week or so later and stick with me until mine were over for that episode. I'm thankful for having him as a friend and love him like family.

I am not special, I just have different battles to fight. I am not lesser or better than any single human being (race, sexuality, gender, religion, etc) I don't care what makes a person different, I respect everyone equally (criminals are an exception of circumstance) if someone saw their partner in pain, they'd immediately drop what they were doing to help and comfort. There's one other type of dwarfism I didn't hear Pete talk about (probably because nobody in his family has it) called Primordial Dwarfism. It's a genetic disorder that effects the person right from the get go. The mother could carry their child with primordial dwarfism full term and the child will still only be born at 3 or 4 pounds. People with primordial dwarfism are perfectly proportionate, just much smaller. Before you ask, I'm in a family of all average height ppl. I just really love doing research on these types of disorders.

Thank you for posting this video. For a very long time, I've thought myself as being alone out there. Granted, I'm part of the 80% you say that has dwarfism among a family of average height. It's never been easy. I'm pausing after every sentence I type because I view it on a very, very personal level and I never really have the courage to speak up about myself. It's because of the internet where everyone's allowed to be as anonymous as possible that I never really let it be known out here that I'm shorter than so many people or have a case of severe hard of hearing. I'm not completely deaf. I still hear with hearing aids. But... that's besides the point for now. My mom's been sheltering me. She's been the type to say things like "Oh, she can't do things. Oh no, she can stay home." While on the other hand, it's always been my older siblings who have been trying to encourage me to do the things I can do with my own limits. So I try. But.... when my mom finds out, she tries harder to discourage me and it really hurts. I just want to say.. you're lucky, Peet. Even though you aren't as small as the rest of your family, at least you have the love and support from everyone around you.

So they prayed over her (common in the black community) and they decided some obscene surgeries that grew her two inches over the course of ten years. It left her barren and misaligned her waist down. They also decided for her to never marry, date, or work. I babysat her a few years ago and felt awful. My mom is the only family member that let her watch us, and treated her with dignity. She is the sweetest person I know, but it really kills me how they handle her, even today as she's approaching 70. *Let me go call her* 😭❤️

I love the fact that you can use your platform to bring awareness, I grew up in a small town, I had a little sister that had cycstic fribrosis, which back then in the 70's it was literally a death sentence. She passed away at the age of 7, growing in up in a family that is aware of any different lifestyle than what we consider normal, we do have an advantage of understanding and having empathy for people that are "different" so I had a huge heart when it came to people with illness of any kind, I lost a classmate to diabetes, I was friends and took up for special needs classmates that went to our school, as well as any minority groups, race, or color. I later worked with a woman that was a lp, and believe me she could hold her own, I don't think she ever missed work unless she was on vaca, and we all just treated her normal, she drove to work. So even being in a small town and in my lifetime meeting someone who was a lp still didn't seem so different to me, I can't speak for the rest of the town, but coming from a family that has been touched by any kind of illness I understand where you are coming from. I hope you're family knows how lucky they are even if you were a jerk at times being a kid lol. You certainly have their back now!

See that’s what I don’t get these days. I remember as a kid in the 90’s we were taught everyone is unique and special in their own way. It was taught that it was ok to be different. That everyone has their things they are good at. Now it seems these days, it’s expected for everyone to be the same. “I want to be seen and treated like everybody else.” I honestly don’t see that as a good thing at all. Let’s all be the same, robots, clones. No, I think we should accept and celebrate our differences. It’s such a mixed message, to have dwarfism awareness month, for example, but then say treat everyone the same. Some people can’t walk up stairs and need a wheelchair ramp, some people are hearing impaired, some people are blind, and that’s ok.

Heck, you do it too, and you'd be lying if you said you didn't look at someone's physical appearance first.

I see a little person in my neighborhood often, and it surprises me every time still for two reasons. First is of course i never expect to see them while going out on a walk to get my medication. Second is i never think about the fact this person is living in my neighborhood since i don't chat with him beyond an occasional greeting and saying i hope he has a good day. Its not like it was when i was younger and didnt understand it and thought it was contagious (i was a kid and didn't know any better) but it still surprises me to see him, even 3 years since i first saw the guy chatting with someone else from the neighborhood. Honestly, these videos you have made and are still making about dwarfism and your experience being the only normal sized person in your household really taught me a lot. And your family and you are just so cute and wholesome. Not all content made by families are like that. the ones i hate are those family vloggers who share every detail while using their family for fame. I happened upon one of your short clips and got caught up into watching a few more. The thing that really impressed me is the love and closeness you and your family have for each other . I think that is what makes some of your video's so interesting and uplifting.

My dad had a childhood friend who was a dwarf, so i knew him since forever. To me he was just "Ale", and he loved that i always treated him like everybody else and when i was older we became kind of friends (msn and icq, i feel old). He was a great caricaturist and drew himself all the time.

That's so interesting that there are so many types of dwarfism, yet so few people in the population, and that your family members all have a different type of dwarfism. God bless you & your family.

thankyou so much for doing this video I'm 4'11 which ik isn't that short but I've always been really insecure about it especially when people would call me names like midget or gnome my grandma got tested a couple of months ago and found out that she has dwarfism which caused her wrists to fuse at an early age so she has short arms and because its genetic my mom thinks i might have it but with the help of my best friend I've recently just started to accept that its ok to be short. I'm going to be starting high school in a few weeks so I'm really scared on how I'm going to be treated but watching your channel and seeing you and your family living normal lives despite your height differences gives me hope that things wont be as bad as I think they will be

Thanks so much for educating us on this. I have a sister who’s totally disabled from cerebral palsy. I too would be so offended when people would stare or speak loud to her like she had a hearing problem. I’m the oldest and there’s 18 months between my sister and I. To this day we are still very close. My mom has always taken care of her and at a young age, I decided that I would take care of her when the time came where my mom could no longer care for her. So glad I found your channel🙂

You shouldn’t feel guilty about anything, you’re a great person when I’ve seen, very caring and giving person. Shown by your actions and your words today. Thank you for sharing.

I remember this teacher with dwarfism I had meet, I believe they were the counselor of my school at the time. I was really struggling with bullying and stress of being the eldest and they were so kind. Honestly I knew them so well that the secretary of the counselor's office would see me and go like "Oh hey they're not in but you can hang out in their office." I love them and I miss them so much. I didn't know much about dwarfism until this and I'm super happy and grateful 💚 (I believe that was the color of the ribbon you showed in the beginning)
