Today we are unboxing the most anticipated square gshock in recent years!
not only does it feature heart rate monitor, but also comes with the MIP screen, a huge leap forward compared to regular LCD found in regular models.
despite it's limitations refresh rate wise, not being able to display 1/100th of a second in the Stopwatch mode, it offers superior legibility and is the first negative g-shock that you can ACTUALLY read in all conditions!
The watch is loaded with regular G-shock functions like Stopwatch, countdown timer, 5 alarms, and world time function.
on top of that, it comes with a wide range of fitness functions including heart rate monitor, blood oxygen levels, step tracker, running mode, walking mode, gym mode, interval timer, sleep monitor, calories burned, notifications from your phone, phone finder and many others!
size wise, it is just a tad bigger than a regular square with only the thickness being noticeable due to the protruding sensors.
the strap features more holes than a regular one offering better fit for everyone.
it comes with both a USB charger and solar power.
my goal is to see if Solar only is enough to keep it going!
As usual stay tuned for the full review AND tutorial!!

I have the blue version. I love it and my problem now is that I don’t want to take it off to switch to another of my G-shocks , lol. Not necessarily a bad problem to have. I agree with all your points and the few issues(stopwatch function) should be resolved via update. Also for the people complaining that they just want a regular square with the MIP display, you can turn those options off and turn it into one as you stated. I actually like the sensor bump at the bottom because it keeps my wrist more aerated than my gw-5000. The screw back gets sticky with perspiration and it feels a lot heavier. Can’t wait for your excellent tutorial on this watch. Thank you.

I've been wearing this watch none stop for the past week. An amazing square that sits right at home in my square collection. I'm not a gym guy but it's been giving me some awesome feedback on heart rate, steps, sleep etc whilst I've been pounding the streets walking round London over the past three days. I love it, amazing G. With everything running aside of notifications, the battery has only lost one bar of power. I have it set to screen 2 with the heart rate monitor running 24/7.

I recently got the DW-H5600MB-1ER watch with a metal bezel, and I absolutely adore it. It's the perfect square for everyday use, as the perfect beater square. Although it has a few minor buggy issues at the moment, I am optimistic that these will be resolved through future updates. One aspect I particularly appreciate is the rubber strap, which is incredibly comfortable and soft. It appears to be made from a distinct material compared to other square-shaped watches.

Got mine on launch day in Japan and it's perfect for my niche - a brilliantly readable screen, great looks without the ugliness of the fitness watches, while having all their key features. Totally agree that the light needs to become a back button - I had to resort to the app to set my birth year too, which is surely a bug. Also, I'd like it if the Bluetooth icon didn't flash when the phone is out of range, but just turn off instead. Finally, I turned off phone notifications completely since it's all or nothing, and I don't need notifications of each Spotify song etc. If we could select just a couple of apps to receive notifications from (WhatsApp, Line, Phone...), then it would be usable. One other quibble is that the metal bezel version scratches surprisingly quickly; perhaps plastic was the way to go. Otherwise though, a lovely watch and I hope the screen will come to the regular squares too. Perhaps while retaining the original font...

The frustration about the interface is what I have with all of them: Each Casio is easy to use so long as it's the only one you own ... or so frequently adjust them that you've memorized the differences. This seems true across several G Shocks and then even the simplest Casios like F-91 or W-217 have one or two buttons not acting what you expect based on another model. I don't like that this got bigger, but freely agree it looks fantastic.

It's definitely a step in a positive direction for casio. They're trying something new and should be applauded for it. I'm excited to see what they'll do next. My only gripe with smart watches is that they become obsolete very fast whereas the rudimentary tech in previous G-shocks are basically ageless. There's also a more rugged aspect to them. Should they ever release one with a solid screw in caseback with the mip display and tough solar, I think that'd be and even better hit. Keep it simple with the functions we know and and love and remove all the fluff that (let's be honest) we'll play around with on the first day then never touch again.

Their strategy is flawed. The G-Shocks should remain in style as they are but with as much dumb features as possible. Basically Casio never adds more dumb features, they do slight changes, tweaks and some improvements. You'll get your package of SW, timer and alarm. The classic G-shocks is the platform for this package. They could try to expand on those dumb features for their mid-range but they hardly ever do, they just change style and the G-mob keeps buying it in new styles. For smartwatches they should create a whole new line under a new brand name. It could take design cues from G-shock or classic Casios, or even the Oceanus line, but basically be a whole new range, with top of the line features, smooth usability and AMOLED displays. This shoe-horning of smart features in to a G-Shock to please the G-crowd, who feel they're missing out, falls between the two famous chairs. The display real estate on the classic G-shock is in reality tiny and not suitable for a smart watch. And by the way, it seems from the video here that they also added the super hard buttons as in the GW-5000s? Nice, very usable.. The behemoth 1000 series is another example of trying to beat together a concept (smartwatch) with a platform (G-shock) that it isn't meant for. Sure, it LOOKS amazing. All G-Shocks LOOK blindingly spectacular when you're into them, but is it usable? Like the GBD-100/200, they look amazing, but the smart features seem more like token features to be checked off in a product sheet, so it can be said to anyone asking - if it's somewhat like a smart watch that on your wrist - and it can be replied : "Yes, it can do all that..". Not honest attempts to actually be top of the line and a serious competitors against Garmin and Apple Watch, as far as smart watches are concerned.

My wild guess is that the programmers of the module were almost done -after a lot of work - and when it was about to go in production someone said: "Wait, it's a G-Shock, has to have a light button...", so they placed it where it's always have been (but didn't want to re-programm the whole damn thing!) 😜😂😂

How do you turn on notification but not have it pop up on the watch screen and only want vibrate or sound? example: when a call comes in I want the watch to vibrate, that's fine. When I reach my steps goal it vibrates/sounds and shows and tell me, that's fine. What I don't want are the phone notifications like email, sms, other chats, Facebook, etc.. all the notifications that pop up shows on the screen; I don't like that because its on the watch screen too long. I have been unable to find a way to keep certain notifications and stop the emails, sms, etc. ones from popping up. It only gives an option of big or small notification display on the watch but whatever you choose, it stays on your watch screen for like 30 seconds blocking the time and everything else on the watch face. Only solution I can figure out is 1) turn off bluetooth connectivity 2) turn off all notifications which defeats the purpose of a smart watch Please advise if it's possible to turn off the notifications function from popping up on the watch screen or at least set the time for that to very quick like 3 seconds instead of like 30 seconds. IM guessing no but in case Im missing something. much thx and great review
